CSI Collection Buying · Masculine · Woody
Cedar, teak, sandalwood, vetiver and oud are five different woods, and a customer who asks for "woody" means one of them. Here is the CSI oil for each, what every size costs, and a blind test that tells you which wood your range is built on.
₹1,690.80
five woods × 50 g, one per sub-family · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What counts as a "woody" masculine fragrance oil? Not one smell but five. Cedar is dry and pencil-like; teak and mahogany are polished and aromatic; sandalwood is creamy; vetiver is a smoky, earthy root; oud is dark and resinous. A buyer who orders "something woody" and gets sandalwood when they wanted cedar has bought the wrong wood, not a bad oil.

Which CSI oil covers each wood? Cedar: Sage and Cedarwood. Teak and mahogany: CSI's Mahogany Teakwood inspired listing. Sandalwood: Sandalwood Fragrance Oil. Vetiver: Vetiver Fragrance Oil. Oud: Woody Oud Fragrance Oil. All five pages state a candle load, and all five are in stock at 50 g on 24 September 2026.

What does a one-of-each test cost? 50 g of each of the five is ₹1,690.80. That is enough to pour every wood at three loads in 150 g jars and see, side by side, which sub-family your customers mean when they say "woody".

Which wood is cheapest to make candles with? Of these five, Woody Oud at 1 kg: ₹54.37 of oil in a 150 g candle at 8%. The dearest of the five at its best-value size is Mahogany Teakwood at ₹105.60, because it is priced flat at ₹8.80 per gram at every size.
The short answer
The map: cedar (dry), teak/mahogany (polished), sandalwood (creamy), vetiver (smoky-earthy), oud (dark-resinous). Decide which one your line needs before you buy.
The picks: Sage and Cedarwood, Mahogany Teakwood, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Woody Oud: one CSI oil per sub-family, each with a stated candle load.
The buy: 50 g of each, ₹1,690.80; or the three-wood core (cedar, sandalwood, vetiver) for ₹979.40.
The traps: Sage and Cedarwood's 1 kg is dearer per gram than its 500 g; Vetiver's 1 kg is out of stock; Vetiver's 15 g costs 77% more per gram than its 50 g.
The woody spectrum: one CSI oil per sub-family Ordered by how heavy each wood reads (editorial judgement); notes, loads and prices from CSI product pages LIGHTER · DRIER DARKER · HEAVIER CEDAR CHARACTER dry, pencil- shaving, herbal CSI PICK Sage and Cedarwood ₹7.08/g at the 50 g size Load: up to 10% SECOND CHOICE Saffron Cedarwood TEAK · MAHOGANY CHARACTER polished, aromatic, lavender-lifted CSI PICK Mahogany Teakwood ₹8.80/g at the 50 g size Load: 7–9% stated SECOND CHOICE Mahogany Shea SANDALWOOD CHARACTER creamy, soft, smooth CSI PICK Sandalwood Fragrance Oil ₹5.43/g at the 50 g size Load: up to 10% SECOND CHOICE Santal Noir VETIVER CHARACTER smoky, earthy root, green edge CSI PICK Vetiver Fragrance Oil ₹7.08/g at the 50 g size Load: up to 10% SECOND CHOICE Gilli Mitti OUD CHARACTER dark, resinous, patchouli-deep CSI PICK Woody Oud Fragrance Oil ₹5.43/g at the 50 g size Load: 6–10% SECOND CHOICE see oud guide Shading deepens with perceived weight. Loads are the oil page wording for candles; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 caps every wood at 10%. Oud beyond Woody Oud (White Royal Oud, Dark Vanilla Oud, the bakhoor oils) and leather are covered in the oud and leather guide. Per-gram prices at 50 g, CSI live pricing verified 24 September 2026.
Five woody sub-families from lighter to heavier, each matched to one CSI oil with its per-gram price at 50 g and the candle load its page states. The order is our judgement of how heavy each wood reads; everything else is page data.
Straight answer
I want woody masculine candles. Which CSI oil covers each type of wood, and what should I buy first?
Buy one oil per wood, 50 g each: Sage and Cedarwood for cedar (₹354.00), the Mahogany Teakwood listing for teak and mahogany (₹440.00), Sandalwood Fragrance Oil for sandalwood (₹271.40), Vetiver Fragrance Oil for vetiver (₹354.00) and Woody Oud Fragrance Oil for oud (₹271.40). The set is ₹1,690.80 for 250 g. Pour each at three loads in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (stated ceiling 10%), burn them side by side, and you will know which wood your range is built on. If the budget is tight, start with cedar, sandalwood and vetiver (₹979.40): they are the three woods least like each other, so the test tells you the most per rupee.
One line: "woody" is five different smells, and CSI has one clear oil for each; buy the five at 50 g, find your wood, then buy that one in bulk.
Start with the wood that frames the others. Sage and Cedarwood 50 g is ₹354.00 (₹7.08 per gram), four 150 g candles at 8%. Its page states "Up to 10% for soy wax". There is no 15 g size, so 50 g is the entry point.
Buy Sage and Cedarwood 50 g — ₹354.00

The five woods, and why "woody" is not one smell

Ask five customers for a woody candle and you may get five different woods back. Name the wood before you buy the oil.

In our judgement wood is the backbone of most masculine candle ranges, which is why "woody" is the least useful word on a brief. A cedar candle and an oud candle are both woody and have almost nothing else in common: one smells like a sharpened pencil and a clean wardrobe, the other like a dark room with resin smouldering in it. This page sorts the woody family into five sub-families, gives each one CSI oil, and shows where the second choices and the gaps are. What reads as masculine more broadly (tobacco, leather, fougère, aquatic) is set out in the hub, Buy Masculine Fragrance Oils for Candle Making; here we stay with wood.

Cedar — dry, straight, herbal

Cedar is the driest wood: pencil shavings, a cedar chest, a clean wooden shelf. It rarely reads sweet, which is why it is a default "men's" wood in grooming and why it works in a study, a walk-in wardrobe or a car-boot gift box. Paired with a herb it becomes aromatic and crisp. CSI's cedar oil is Sage and Cedarwood, described on its page as "Herbaceous sage with warm, woody cedar undertones". The sage leads, the cedar carries. If you want cedar with spice rather than herb, the second choice is Saffron Cedarwood.

Teak and mahogany — polished, aromatic, furniture-rich

Teak and mahogany are not single natural notes in perfumery; they are accords that suggest dark polished furniture, usually lifted with lavender or citrus so they do not sink. In Indian homes teak means the heavy almirah and the old dining table, so the accord reads as solid and a little formal. CSI covers it with one brand-inspired listing, the Mahogany Teakwood listing (pick 2 below, where the listing name and the not-affiliated note are given). Its page describes "fresh lavender and crisp bergamot", a "heart of mahogany wood and geranium" and a "base of teakwood, cedarwood, and musk".

Sandalwood — creamy, soft, familiar

Sandalwood is the soft end of the family: milky, smooth, slightly sweet, with none of cedar's dryness. In India it is also the most culturally loaded wood, tied to temples, weddings and gifting, so a sandalwood men's candle reads warm and traditional rather than sharp. CSI's Sandalwood Fragrance Oil is a single-note oil: "warm, creamy, luxurious single-note sandalwood fragrance oil with a smooth woody aroma and subtle earthy undertone". No top notes to speak of, which makes it an excellent base and a quiet candle on its own.

Vetiver — smoky, earthy, rooted

Vetiver is a grass root, known in India as khus, and it smells like it: earthy, faintly smoky, with a green, almost damp edge. It is the wood for buyers who say "outdoorsy" or "grounded" and do not want sweetness. CSI's Vetiver Fragrance Oil is described as "smoky, woody, and grounding with subtle green and sweet undertones", and the page calls it "A deeply earthy, IFRA-certified vetiver fragrance oil" (the page's wording; ask for the documentation on WhatsApp). The earthier, rain-on-soil cousin is Gilli Mitti (Patchouli).

Oud — dark, resinous, heavy

Oud (agarwood) is the heaviest wood and the one that most divides people. In candles it usually arrives inside an oriental structure, with spice, amber and patchouli around it. For a woody range the oud to start with is the one that is most wood and least perfume: Woody Oud Fragrance Oil, with "citrus and spice top notes opening into rich oud and patchouli heart, settling into warm woody notes, amber, and musk". The softer, rosier and sweeter ouds, the bakhoor-style smoke oils and the one leather-style oil belong to a different conversation, covered in Oud and Leather-Style Fragrance Oils for Masculine Candles.

Brief-writing tip
When a stockist, café or corporate client asks for "woody", hand them the five sub-family words (dry, polished, creamy, earthy, dark) and ask them to pick two. It turns a vague request into a two-oil test order and saves you pouring the wrong wood in bulk.

The five picks, sub-family by sub-family

One bottle per wood. Each card tells you what the page says, where the oil is weak, and what every size costs.

Each pick was chosen on what we can show you: how clearly the stated notes belong to that wood, whether the page states a candle load, per-gram price, and which sizes are in stock on 24 September 2026. We have no throw measurements and do not rank these by strength; which masculine oils are structurally heaviest, and how to wick them, is the job of Strong Masculine Fragrance Oils for Candles. Candle counts assume a 150 g candle at 8% (12 g of oil).

1
cedar · dry and herbal · the frame
Sage and Cedarwood Fragrance Oil
The clearest cedar in the range, softened with sage so it reads clean rather than raw timber. The page describes "Herbaceous sage with warm, woody cedar undertones" and states "Recommended Fragrance Load: Up to 10% for soy wax Up to 6% for paraffin wax". Use it as the frame of a woody line: it makes the creamier and darker woods beside it read richer by contrast. Limitation: no 15 g, and the page names only two notes, so it has no bright opening of its own; if you want lift, pair it rather than push the load. Pricing oddity to know before you scale: the 1 kg (₹6,867.60) costs more per gram than the 500 g (₹2,584.20).
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
50 gm ₹354.00 ₹7.08 4
100 gm ₹696.20 ₹6.96 8
500 gm ₹2,584.20 ₹5.17 41
1 kg ₹6,867.60 ₹6.87 83
Two 500 g packs cost ₹5,168.40, ₹1,699.20 less than one 1 kg. Buy Sage and Cedarwood
2
teak and mahogany · polished aromatic · the showpiece
Mahogany Teakwood Bath and Body Works Inspired Fragrance Oil
The only CSI oil built around a mahogany-and-teak accord, and the most "finished" smelling of the five: lavender and bergamot at the top keep the dark furniture woods from going heavy. The page states "Extremely strong hot throw in soy wax at 7-9%" (the page's own claim; we have not measured it), so test at 7%, 8% and 9% rather than 6–10%. The name is CSI's listing name; the oil is an interpretation of the style and CSI is not affiliated with the brand, so call your candle something of your own. Limitation: it is priced flat at ₹8.80 per gram from 50 g to 1 kg, 62% more per gram than Sandalwood at 50 g, and there is no 15 g.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
50g ₹440.00 ₹8.80 4
100g ₹880.00 ₹8.80 8
500g ₹4,400.00 ₹8.80 41
1kg ₹8,800.00 ₹8.80 83
Oil per candle: ₹92.40 at 7%, ₹105.60 at 8%, ₹118.80 at 9%, at any size. Buy Mahogany Teakwood
3
sandalwood · creamy single note · the soft base
Sandalwood Fragrance Oil
A straightforward creamy sandalwood, and at ₹5.43 per gram at 50 g one of the two least expensive woods here. The page calls it a "warm, creamy, luxurious single-note sandalwood fragrance oil with a smooth woody aroma and subtle earthy undertone" and states "Recommended load up to 10% for soy, up to 6% for paraffin". In our judgement it is the wood most Indian buyers recognise instantly, which makes it the safe gift candle. Limitation: single-note means no opening; alone it smells like sandalwood, not like a composed men's fragrance. That is fine for a "Sandal" candle and weak for a signature scent.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹93.22 ₹6.21 1
50 gm ₹271.40 ₹5.43 4
100 gm ₹502.68 ₹5.03 8
500 gm ₹2,513.40 ₹5.03 41
1 kg ₹5,026.80 ₹5.03 83
From 100 g the price is flat at ₹5.03 per gram; the 1 kg saves 7.4% per gram on the 50 g. Buy Sandalwood
4
vetiver · smoky earthy root · the grounding note
Vetiver Fragrance Oil
The wood for customers who want smoke and soil rather than polish. The page describes it as "smoky, woody, and grounding with subtle green and sweet undertones" and states "Up to 10% for soy wax candles ... Up to 6% for paraffin wax candles". The page also uses the wording "IFRA-certified"; ask for the documents on WhatsApp. Vetiver is also the natural monsoon wood: khus is familiar in Indian summers and wet months, so it has a season beyond winter. Limitation: on 24 September 2026 the 1 kg is out of stock, and the 15 g is 77% dearer per gram than the 50 g. Skip the 15 g.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹187.62 ₹12.51 1
50 gm ₹354.00 ₹7.08 4
100 gm ₹600.00 ₹6.00 8
500 gm ₹2,900.00 ₹5.80 41
1 kg ₹5,664.00 — Out of stock on 24 September 2026 ₹5.66 Out of stock
Largest size in stock is 500 g: ₹69.60 of oil per 8% candle. Buy Vetiver
5
oud · dark resinous wood · the evening end
Woody Oud Fragrance Oil
The oud that behaves most like a wood. The page describes "citrus and spice top notes opening into rich oud and patchouli heart, settling into warm woody notes, amber, and musk" and states "candles (6-10%)". Patchouli gives it an earthy depth that links it to Vetiver, so the two sit well in one range. It is also, from 100 g upward, the least expensive oil per gram on this page at ₹4.53. Limitation: oud and patchouli are polarising; blind-test it on people who are not already oud fans before it becomes a range anchor. The sweeter and rosier ouds are compared in Oud and Leather-Style Fragrance Oils for Masculine Candles.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹93.22 ₹6.21 1
50 gm ₹271.40 ₹5.43 4
100 gm ₹453.12 ₹4.53 8
500 gm ₹2,265.60 ₹4.53 41
1 kg ₹4,531.20 ₹4.53 83
At 1 kg: ₹54.37 of oil per 8% candle, 16.5% below the 50 g per gram. Buy Woody Oud
Only three bottles? Sage and Cedarwood, Sandalwood and Vetiver: dry, creamy and earthy, the three woods least like each other, for ₹979.40. Just want to smell first? 15 g each of Sandalwood, Woody Oud and Vetiver is ₹374.06, but read the cost section before you do: the Vetiver 15 g is the most expensive gram on this page.
Argued against our own interest: if you are building a budget woody line, you do not need the Mahogany Teakwood listing. At 8% it puts ₹105.60 of oil in a 150 g candle against ₹54.37 for Woody Oud at 1 kg, a gap of ₹51.23 per candle. It is a good oil for a showpiece candle; it is an expensive oil for a range that has to sell at a keen price. Sandalwood and Woody Oud carry most woody ranges more cheaply.

Second-choice woods, and the woods CSI does not stock

Each sub-family has at least one alternative in the CSI range. Several have no candle load stated on the page, which means you work inside the wax ceiling and test from 6% upward; the lower of the wax's ceiling and the oil page's ceiling always governs, and neither is a regulatory limit.

Resinous wood Palo Santo Fragrance Oil "Earthy palo santo with soft citrus, warm amber, and a touch of incense" Up to 10% for soy wax All sizes in stock; flat ₹6.02/g from 50 g. ₹72.22 of oil per 8% candle.
Resinous amber Frankincense and Tonka Fragrance Oil (1kg) Resinous frankincense with creamy tonka Not stated Out of stock on 24 September 2026. Do not plan around it.

Gaps: woods you will not find on the CSI store

On 24 September 2026 CSI lists no pine, fir or forest-needle oil, no birch-tar or leather-birch wood oil (the only birch on the store is a smoky birch heart inside one perfume-grade inspired listing, a fruity chypre), no guaiac wood, no "cashmere wood" and no single-note teak. The closest to a forest wood is Sage and Cedarwood; the closest to a birch-smoke wood is Vetiver or Sultan's Smoke, covered in the oud guide. If a pine or birch note is central to your plan, ask on WhatsApp before you design a range around a note we do not stock. Frankincense and Tonka, the one resinous amber-wood that would sit beside these, is out of stock.

Mistake: treating Santal Noir as "a better Sandalwood" and paying ₹9.98 a gram for it in a plain sandalwood candle. Fix: they are different products. Sandalwood is a single note with a stated load; Santal Noir is a composed woody accord with spice, cedar and amber and no stated candle load. Buy Santal Noir only if you want that structure, and test it from 6% inside your wax ceiling.

Which woods sit together in one range

Two woods from the same end of the spectrum blur together. Two from opposite ends make a range.

A woody range works when a customer can tell the candles apart with the lids off. The simplest rule is to pick woods from different columns of the spectrum above: one dry, one creamy, one dark. Two sub-families that sit next to each other can still work if one of them carries a clear non-wood accent (sage, lavender, patchouli). How to turn these into a full five- or six-scent men's line with fresh and tobacco scents, gift roles and pricing is the subject of Best Fragrances for a Men's Candle Collection; this table only answers "which woods can share a shelf".

Wood-with-wood pairings · editorial judgement from stated notes
How distinct each pair is likely to read on the same shelf
Pair Distinct? Why (from stated notes)
Sage and Cedarwood + Sandalwood Very Herbal-dry against creamy single note; the classic day and night pair.
Sage and Cedarwood + Woody Oud Very Dry and light against dark, patchouli-heavy; opposite ends of the spectrum.
Sandalwood + Vetiver Clear Creamy against smoky-green; both calm, so the range stays quiet.
Vetiver + Woody Oud Partly Both earthy (vetiver root, oud with patchouli); fine together only if a lighter wood sits between them.
Mahogany Teakwood + Sage and Cedarwood Partly Both aromatic (lavender vs sage) and both name cedarwood; pick one of the two for a small range.
Sandalwood + Santal Noir Weak Both built on creamy sandalwood; a customer may struggle to tell them apart.

A note on blending: many makers blend two woods, say Sandalwood with a little Sage and Cedarwood, to make a house wood. That is legitimate, but it is a formulation project of its own. Blend only after you have burned each oil alone, keep the total load inside the lower ceiling, and record the ratio by weight. Two oils with stated loads of up to 10% do not become a 20% blend.

The wood-sorting test

This test answers one question: which wood does your market mean by "woody"? It is not a throw test and not a soy performance test (how heavy woods and resins behave in soy, cure and all, is in Best Masculine Fragrance Oils for Soy Candles). You need the five 50 g bottles, 15 jars, a scale reading to 1 g and three or four people who are not you.

1
Pour each wood at three loads, by weightFor a 150 g candle, 6% is 9 g oil and 141 g wax, 8% is 12 g and 138 g, 10% is 15 g and 135 g. For Mahogany Teakwood, whose page states 7–9%, pour 7% (10.5 g), 8% and 9% (13.5 g) instead. That is 15 candles and roughly 180 g of oil.
2
Hide the names, keep a keyNumber the jars 1 to 15 on the base and keep the key in a notebook. Your tasters should never see "oud" or "sandalwood" written down; the words change what people smell.
3
Cure every candle for the same timeNone of the five pages states a cure time. As a matter of common practice rather than page data, cure soy for at least 48–72 hours and test at day 3 and again at day 7; woods and resins often need the longer end. Compare only candles of the same age.
4
Ask the sorting question, coldLids off, the 8% jar of each wood in a row. Ask each taster to sort the five into "dry", "creamy", "smoky or earthy", "polished" and "dark". If most people put a jar where the spectrum says it belongs, the oil is doing its sub-family's job. If they cannot separate two jars, you have found a pair that should not share a range.
5
Ask the preference question, coldThen ask which one they would buy as a gift for a man, and which one for their own home. Woods that win the first question and lose the second are gift-box scents; woods that win both are range anchors.
6
Burn the finalists, one per sessionBurn the two or three winning woods at each load, one candle per session, same room, two to three hours, and note what you smell from the doorway at 30 minutes and at 2 hours. Keep the lowest load that still reads as the right wood. Check the melt pool; if it has not reached the glass edge by the end of the burn, retest with a thicker wick from the Candle Wicks collection rather than raising the load.
7
Buy the winner at the right size, not the biggestCheck the cost section below before ordering: for Sage and Cedarwood the 500 g is the best-value size, for Vetiver the 500 g is the largest in stock, and for Mahogany Teakwood size makes no difference per gram.
The two-sentence scoring sheet
For each jar, write the sub-family word your tasters chose and the one-word reason ("pencil", "milky", "smoke", "polish", "resin"). If the reason words match the stated notes on the product page, the oil is doing what it says; if they do not, you have learned something about your market, not about the oil.
Mistake: pushing a soft wood to 10% to make it "stronger". Fix: a creamy sandalwood at the ceiling is still a creamy sandalwood; if customers want more presence, they may actually want a different wood. The page maximum and the CSI 464 ceiling (both 10% here) are limits, not targets, and they are formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Test 6%, 8% and 10% and keep the lowest load that passes.

What each wood costs per candle

The cheapest wood per gram and the cheapest wood per candle are the same oil here. At the best-value size, the dearest is the one with the brand-inspired listing name.

All figures are oil only, for a 150 g candle at 8% (12 g), at the 50 g price and at the best-value size that is in stock on 24 September 2026. The full per-gram ladder across every masculine oil, and the gap between candle-grade and perfume-grade oils at 1 kg, is in Masculine Candle Fragrance Oils Wholesale in India; this table is only about the five woods.

Sandalwood · Sandalwood Fragrance Oil ₹65.14 100 g to 1 kg (flat) ₹60.32 ₹5.03 per gram from 100 g; the 1 kg adds no further saving.
Vetiver · Vetiver Fragrance Oil ₹84.96 500 g, ₹2,900.00 ₹69.60 1 kg out of stock; two 500 g packs are ₹5,800.00.
Oud · Woody Oud Fragrance Oil ₹65.14 100 g to 1 kg (flat) ₹54.37 ₹4.53 per gram from 100 g; the cheapest wood here.

Three things the table tells you

1. For three of the five, the bulk saving arrives at 100 g or 500 g, not at 1 kg. Sandalwood and Woody Oud are priced the same per gram at 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg. Sage and Cedarwood is cheapest at 500 g. That changes how you order: once a wood has passed your test, a 500 g bottle gets you the best price on four of the five with half the money tied up. We sell the 1 kg. For most of these woods, the 1 kg buys you nothing per gram that the 500 g does not.

2. Sage and Cedarwood is the one to watch. On 24 September 2026 the 500 g is ₹2,584.20 (₹5.17/g) and the 1 kg is ₹6,867.60 (₹6.87/g). Two 500 g packs cost ₹5,168.40, ₹1,699.20 less than one 1 kg. If you are ordering a kilogram, ask us on WhatsApp for two 500 g packs instead.

3. The small bottles are the expensive grams. Vetiver's 15 g is ₹12.51 per gram against ₹7.08 at 50 g, 77% more. Sandalwood and Woody Oud's 15 g are both ₹6.21 per gram, against ₹5.43 at 50 g. Unless you only want to sniff from the bottle, 50 g is the smallest sensible buy.

A whole candle, worked example

Woody Oud at 8% in a 150 g candle: 12 g of oil at the 1 kg price (₹54.37) + 138 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at the 10 kg price (₹70.02, i.e. ₹0.51 per gram) + one Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) from the pack of 10 (₹94.40) + one Thin (C1) Eco Candle Wick (₹5.90) = ₹224.70. The same candle with Mahogany Teakwood is ₹275.92. Both figures exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. The C1 wick is a starting point only; a Thick (C2) wick costs ₹9.44 each if your melt-pool test calls for it. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (ceiling 13%) give headroom none of these woods can use, since every oil page here stops at 10% or below.

Where the money actually is
In the worked example the jar (₹94.40) costs more than the Woody Oud oil (₹54.37). When you come to price a woody range, the vessel and the wood choice move the number far more than the oil pack size does.

Woods for Diwali and the Indian winter

Woody candles come into their own when the weather cools and gifting starts. Diwali falls on 8 November 2026, 45 days after these prices were checked; Christmas is 25 December 2026; North Indian winter runs roughly December to February, with the South milder. In our judgement the creamy and dark woods (Sandalwood, Woody Oud, Mahogany Teakwood) suit Diwali gift boxes and winter evenings, while the drier and greener woods (Sage and Cedarwood, Vetiver) carry through the Indian summer (roughly April to June) and the southwest monsoon (roughly June to September), when khus and earthy notes feel natural. If you are selling in volume for corporate Diwali orders, the batch maths for a few hundred candles is in Bulk Masculine Fragrance Oils for Candle Manufacturers; the full sampling sequence with budgets and decision dates is in I Want a Masculine Candle Collection — Which Woody, Oud, Amber and Fresh Fragrance Oils Should I Sample?.

The CSI principle
Name the wood before you buy the oil.
Cedar, teak, sandalwood, vetiver and oud are five different purchases. A 50 g bottle of each costs ₹1,690.80; a kilogram of the wrong one costs the whole kilogram.
"Woody is a family, not a fragrance. Put one of each wood in front of your customers, and they will tell you which one your range is."

If woods are only part of your plan, the hub Buy Masculine Fragrance Oils for Candle Making places them next to tobacco, leather, aquatic and fougère, and Luxury Masculine Fragrance Oils for Candle Brands covers how a woody range is positioned and priced for a premium brand. Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the oils, wax, jars and wicks named here and does not sell finished candles. This page tells you to skip sizes we sell (the Vetiver 15 g, the Sage and Cedarwood 1 kg), to avoid our most expensive wood on a budget range, and where our woody range has gaps.

Every price, pack size and per-gram figure was taken from CSI's live store and verified on 24 September 2026. Out-of-stock sizes (Vetiver 1 kg, Sacred Sandal Ember 100 g and 1 kg, Frankincense and Tonka) are flagged as out of stock on that date and are never presented as buyable. Notes and candle loads are quoted from each product page; where a page does not state a candle load, we say so.

The sub-family spectrum, the pairings, the seasonal fit and the sorting test are our judgement; CSI has no throw measurements for these oils. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best woody fragrance oil for men's candles in India?
It depends which wood you mean. For dry cedar, Sage and Cedarwood; for creamy sandalwood, Sandalwood Fragrance Oil; for smoky-earthy, Vetiver Fragrance Oil; for dark oud, Woody Oud Fragrance Oil; for polished teak and mahogany, the Mahogany Teakwood listing. All five state a candle load on their CSI pages.
What is the difference between cedarwood and sandalwood candle fragrance?
Cedar is dry, straight and pencil-like, often herbal; sandalwood is creamy, smooth and slightly sweet. At CSI, Sage and Cedarwood is described as "Herbaceous sage with warm, woody cedar undertones", while Sandalwood is a "warm, creamy" single note. They pair well because they sit at opposite ends of the woody family.
Is vetiver fragrance oil good for candles?
CSI's Vetiver Fragrance Oil states "Up to 10% for soy wax candles" and is described as smoky, woody and grounding. It suits earthy, outdoorsy men's candles and monsoon ranges. On 24 September 2026 the 1 kg is out of stock, so the largest size you can buy is 500 g (₹2,900.00).
Mahogany teakwood fragrance oil for candles price in India
CSI's Mahogany Teakwood inspired listing (an interpretation of the style; CSI is not affiliated with the brand) is ₹440.00 for 50 g, ₹880.00 for 100 g, ₹4,400.00 for 500 g and ₹8,800.00 for 1 kg: ₹8.80 per gram at every size. Its page states 7–9% in soy wax. Do not use the brand name on your own label.
How much woody fragrance oil for a 150 g candle?
At 8% of total weight, 12 g of oil and 138 g of wax. Test 6%, 8% and 10% for the oils stating up to 10%, and 7%, 8% and 9% for Mahogany Teakwood. With Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (ceiling 10%), the lower ceiling governs.
Can I mix sandalwood and cedarwood fragrance oils in one candle?
Yes, many makers build a house wood that way, but burn each oil alone first, blend by weight, and keep the combined load within the lower of the wax ceiling and the oils' stated maximums, not the sum of them. Record the ratio so you can repeat it.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: part of CSI's masculine cluster. It sorts woody fragrance into five sub-families (cedar, teak and mahogany, sandalwood, vetiver, oud) and names one CSI oil and one second choice for each. Oud beyond Woody Oud, and leather, are covered in the oud and leather guide. CSI is not affiliated with any brand named in its own product listings.

Wax ceilings as stated by the wax pages (Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%) are formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Candle loads, notes and IFRA wording are quoted from each oil page. Per-candle costs are worked examples and exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Cure guidance is common practice, not page data. The sub-family order, pairings and seasonal fit are editorial judgement.
