How to Consolidate Fragrance Oil Purchasing With One Supplier

What consolidation actually buys you

A small candle business often ends up with several vendors by accident: fragrance from one because it had a scent the other lacked, wax from a second because it was cheaper that month, jars from a third, wicks wherever they were in stock. Each vendor adds its own order to place, its own delivery to receive, its own invoice to file, its own lead time to learn and its own paperwork to chase. None of that is visible on a price list, and all of it costs time every month. Consolidation is the decision to move most of that onto one supplier.

Notice what is not in the gains column: a guaranteed lower price. On CSI's listed catalogue most oils are priced flat per gram from 100 g to 1 kg, and no volume discount figure is published. A consolidated order is simply a bigger single order, which you can send on WhatsApp and ask to have quoted, and whatever answer comes back is the answer. What it concentrates, and how to cover it

The main risk of one supplier is easy to state: when they cannot supply a line, you have no order already running elsewhere. How likely that is depends on how deep their stock is on the lines you need. On CSI's 24 September 2026 pull, 47 oils were in stock at every listed size — very little single-supplier risk there. But 7 oils were in stock at only one size, and 7 had nothing in stock at all. A scent from that second group is a weak candidate for a consolidated range without a backup plan.

Sacred Sandal Ember is the exposed line here. Only its 500 g was in stock on the pull date; the 100 g and 1 kg were out of stock. If the 500 g also goes, there is no smaller or larger size to route around it at the same supplier. It can still be in a consolidated basket, but it should carry a sealed reserve and, if it is a best-seller, a backup you have already tested. Can one catalogue cover the order?

Consolidation only works if the supplier actually lists what you buy. Here is a container-candle bill of materials checked against the CSI items priced in this series. Prices for oils and wax are from the 24 September 2026 pull; wick, jar and tool prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026.

For a container candle, the whole raw-materials bill can come from one catalogue. Two practical notes. First, wax, wicks and jars keep well and are bought less often than oil; consolidating them does not mean buying them monthly, only on the same supplier. Second, the per-kilo price of wax does not always fall with bag size: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are ₹599.00 a kilo at 5 kg and ₹599.90 at 10 kg, CSI 464 is ₹507.40 at every size, and only Natural Soy Pearl Wax has a real break, from ₹450.00 at 1 kg to ₹424.80 at 5 kg and above. The consolidated monthly basket

Here is one month for a maker pouring 270 container candles of 200 g at an 8% load (16 g oil, 184 g wax), all on one CSI order. Six oils make up 4.5 kg, which covers 270 candles with a 4% allowance for pour loss and test burns (4.49 kg needed). The allowance is a working assumption within the usual 3–5%.

That is 10 lines on one order and one invoice, ₹285.55 per candle in materials, of which fragrance is ₹103.96. Wax at 51.67 kg needed is bought as 55 kg, so a little carries over. The per-candle figure excludes labour, packaging, labels, freight and GST. CSI 464 is rated up to 10% fragrance load, the wax maker's stated formulation maximum, which covers the 8% used here. Month two will usually drop the jars, wicks or wax if you buy those on a slower cycle, leaving the oils as the monthly core.
