What a monthly supplier actually is

A candle manufacturer's fragrance problem is not the first purchase. It is month seven, when a best-selling scent is down to its last 200 g, a gifting order has landed, and the question is whether the same oil, at the same price, with the same paperwork, can be on the bench before the wax is melted. A monthly supplier is whoever answers that question the same way every time. Price matters, but only after you know the oil will be there.

That turns supplier choice into a short list of things you can check before month one. Are the sizes you produce from actually in stock for the scents you run, not just listed? Is the price per gram predictable, so a costing done in September still holds in March? Does documentation come with the oil, so a retail buyer or corporate client can be answered the same day? And when you need more than the website sells, is there a named route for it? The table below sets those out against what CSI's own listings show on 24 September 2026, and against what has to be settled in writing because no listing can show it.

The left half of that table is visible to anyone. The right half is the part that turns a shop into a supplier, and it is deliberately left blank here. We do not publish lead times, credit terms or volume discounts, and this page will not invent them for you. What it will do is show you how to plan a month so that whatever those answers turn out to be, your production does not stop. One production month, costed

Here is the worked example this page uses. A small manufacturer pours 360 container candles a month, each 200 g at an 8% fragrance load, so each candle holds 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. The range is six scents, sold evenly, so 60 candles per scent. That is 960 g of oil per scent. Plan 3–5% extra for pour loss and test burns; this page uses 4% as a working assumption, which brings each scent to 998.4 g. One 1 kg pack per scent covers it with 1.6 g to spare.

The last column is there for a reason. Buying the same 6 kg as sixty 100 g bottles would cost ₹31,648.80, which is ₹1,327.00 more than the six kilos. The two biggest shares of that gap are Jasmine (₹377.00) and British Rose (₹354.00), whose kilos are 8.8% and 10.3% cheaper per gram than their 100 g. Vanilla Bean, Lavender and Bergamot Amber save between 2% and 4%, and Sandalwood saves nothing at all. That is the pattern across the whole catalogue: the kilo buys fewer orders and fewer bottles to open, not usually a lower rate. For a monthly manufacturer that is still worth a lot.

Load changes the month more than pack size does. The same 360 candles at a 6% load need 720 g per scent, and at 10% they need 1200 g. At 6% a 1 kg pack runs well past a month. At 10% it runs out after about 50 candles, and you need a second pack or a 500 g top-up for each scent. Settle your load in test burns before you set monthly quantities. What the listings cover month to month

A monthly line needs the production size in stock and a smaller size behind it for top-ups. Here is how CSI's collection stood on the pull date, size by size:

Two numbers matter most to a manufacturer. Sixty oils are in stock at both 500 g and 1 kg, which means a monthly line can be sized closely: a 1 kg plus a 500 g covers 1.5 kg without buying a second kilo. And 72 oils are in stock at both 100 g and 1 kg, so for almost every production scent there is a small pack to fill a short month without waiting for the next full order. Price consistency across sizes has a quieter benefit. Because most oils cost the same per gram at 100 g as at 1 kg, your per-candle cost does not jump when you top up with a smaller pack. Sandalwood is ₹5.03 a gram at 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg alike, so a short month costs the same per candle as a full one. That is less true for the oils with a real kilo break, such as British Rose, where a 100 g top-up costs ₹3.42 a gram against ₹3.07 for the kilo. Keep top-ups small on those.

The terms that are not on the page

We are not going to guess those numbers for you, because a guess written on a supplier's blog becomes a promise in a buyer's spreadsheet. The honest route is short. Before your first monthly order, send CSI a WhatsApp message that lists your scents, your monthly quantities and your delivery pin code, and ask four questions: typical dispatch time for an order of that size, how restocks are notified for the oils you run, what payment terms apply, and whether any price applies beyond the listed packs. Keep the replies. They are the closest thing a small manufacturer has to a supply agreement, and they are the numbers your plan should be built on.

Until those answers are in, plan around the unknown rather than around a hopeful number. The tool for that is safety stock: oil you hold on the shelf that is not part of this month's pours, sized to cover the longest gap you are prepared to believe. If your plan uses 998.4 g of a scent a month, that is about 33 g a day on a 30-day month. Holding two weeks of cover as a buffer means about 466 g of that scent in reserve. Those cash figures are the real cost of not knowing your lead time. Two weeks of buffer across six scents ties up ₹14,127.53 of oil. Four weeks ties up roughly a whole month's fragrance bill. A written answer from your supplier is worth exactly the difference between those rows, which is why it is the first thing to ask for.

The month-one shopping list

For the worked example, month one is the six 1 kg oils, seven 10 kg bags of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (68.89 kg of wax needed with a 4% allowance, rounded up to 70 kg) and four 100-packs of Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1. Jars are left out because container choice varies so much between manufacturers; at the White Matte Glass Jar price of ₹70.80 each, 360 jars would add ₹25,488.00.

On those figures the materials for each candle, before the jar, come to ₹189.44, and fragrance is 44.5% of that. If you prefer Luxury Soy Wax Chunks for their 13% load ceiling, seven 10 kg bags cost ₹41,993.00 instead of ₹35,518.00. CSI 464 is rated up to 10%, which comfortably covers an 8% load. Month two is usually smaller than month one, because month one also builds your safety stock. Once two weeks of buffer is on the shelf, the monthly order drops back to the pours alone.
