Commercial Fragrance · Starting a Wax Melt Business
A wax melt business needs five things: wax, fragrance oil, moulds, colour and containers — plus a scale. No wick. CSI lists all of them in one store, which means one order, one invoice and one conversation. This page prices three real starter bills, from a kitchen test to a market stall, so you know exactly what starting costs before you start.
₹9,127.60
the launch bill: 5 kg Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, five 100 g oils, three moulds, three colours, 50 melt containers, scale and thermometer — 500 illustrative 10 g melts at 10% · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Where can I buy wax, fragrance oils and moulds for wax melts in India? CSI lists every material a melt business needs in one store: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 93 fragrance oils, nine melt moulds, liquid dyes, dye chips, mica, Wax Melts Containers, and a scale and thermometer. One order covers the lot; GST invoicing and IFRA documents are available on request.

How much does it cost to start a wax melt business? In materials, from ₹2,246.06 for a kitchen test (four 15 g oils, 1 kg wax, two moulds, one dye, tools) to ₹9,127.60 to launch and ₹19,094.46 to be market-ready. Labels, labour, freight and GST are extra.

Which wax should I buy for wax melts? CSI does not list a wax sold specifically as melt wax. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (stated ceiling 13%) gives the most load headroom; CSI 464 is cheaper with a 10% ceiling. Both are container waxes — test mould release. Other waxes: confirm the maximum first.

Does CSI sell a wax melt starter kit? CSI lists an Aroma Wax Sachet Making Kit at ₹554.60, but its contents are not published in our data — ask on WhatsApp before assuming it suits melts. CSI does not sell a fragrance starter kit; build your own from 15 g testers, as the bills below do.
The short answer

Three starter bills for a wax melt business — where the money goes Stacked by category, CSI listed prices. Darker = oil, lighter = tools. Melts need no wick. Kitchen test ₹2,246.06 Launch ₹9,127.60 Market-ready ₹19,094.46 Oil Wax Mould Colour Containers Tools
All three bills use CSI listed prices pulled 24–25 September 2026 (oil and wax 24 September; scale and thermometer from Blog 760, verified 10 September 2026). Oil and wax are the biggest lines; containers add ₹29.50 to every pack sold. Warmers, labels, printed packaging, labour, freight and GST are not included.
Straight answer
Where should I buy wax, fragrance oils and moulds to start a wax melt business?
From one supplier if you can, because one order means one invoice and one place to reorder. CSI lists everything a melt business needs except the customer's warmer: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (stated ceiling 13%; CSI does not list a wax sold specifically for melts), 93 fragrance oils from ₹68.44 for 15 g, nine melt moulds from ₹153.40, liquid dyes at ₹236.00, dye chips at ₹250.00, mica from ₹57.82, Wax Melts Containers at ₹29.50 each, and a ₹354.00 scale. Melts need no wick. Priced as real orders: a kitchen test costs ₹2,246.06 (four 15 g oils, 1 kg wax, two moulds, one dye, scale and thermometer); a launch costs ₹9,127.60 (5 kg wax, five 100 g oils, three moulds, three colours, 50 containers, tools) and makes about 500 illustrative 10 g melts at 10%; a market-ready start costs ₹19,094.46. CSI does not sell a fragrance starter kit, so every bill builds its own oil selection. Send the list on WhatsApp for stock checks and a GST invoice.
One line: test for ₹2,246.06, launch for ₹9,127.60 — and buy the containers only when the scents have earned them.
Start with the kitchen test: four 15 g oils (₹349.06), 1 kg of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (₹599.00), two small moulds, one liquid dye, a scale and a thermometer — ₹2,246.06 for everything you need to find out whether melts are for you.

Where each material comes from

Five materials, one scale, no wick. The shopping list for a melt business is short — which makes every line on it matter.

Most new melt makers buy from three or four places: wax from one seller, oils from another, moulds from a marketplace, containers from wherever they turn up. It works, but it multiplies shipping, invoices and the chance that something runs out at the wrong moment. The table shows where each material sits in CSI's catalogue, and — just as important — what CSI does not list, so you know what to source elsewhere.

Two honest notes on the table. First, the wax. CSI does not list a wax sold specifically as melt wax; Chunks and CSI 464 are container waxes and the only two with a published fragrance ceiling. They work for many melt makers, but a softer container wax can release more slowly from silicone and feel tacky in a clamshell on a hot day — test one tray before you buy 10 kg. For Natural Soy Pearl Wax, Soy Pillar Wax, paraffin, beeswax or soy butter, the maximum load must be confirmed with CSI before you rely on it.

Second, kits. CSI lists an Aroma Wax Sachet Making Kit at ₹554.60, but its contents are not published in our data, so we cannot tell you whether it covers what a melt business needs — ask on WhatsApp. CSI does not sell a fragrance starter kit, sample pack or discovery set. Every bill below builds its own oil selection from 15 g or 100 g sizes, and CSI will help you assemble one on WhatsApp if you tell it the scent families you want.

Buy the scale first
Every figure in a melt business — load, batch, pack weight, cavity weight — is a weight. Without a scale you are guessing all of them. The ₹354.00 Candle Making Weighing Scale is in every bill below for that reason.

Three starter bills, priced

The three bills are stages, not alternatives. The kitchen test answers "do I like making melts, and which scents work?". The launch answers "will people buy them?". The market-ready bill answers "can I keep a stall or shop stocked?". Here they are side by side by category, with the number of illustrative 10 g melts each can make at a 10% load:

Materials only · CSI listed prices · 10 g melts at 10% on Chunks (1 g oil + 9 g wax)

Melts it can make at 10% (10 g) 60 500 1,111.11
Limited by oil (60 g) oil (500 g) wax (10 kg ÷ 9 g)

The capacity line shows which material runs out first. In the kitchen test it is the oil: four 15 g testers scent 60 illustrative melts at 10%, using 540 g of the kilo of wax and leaving the rest for second pours. In the launch it is the oil again — 500 g scents 500 melts, using 4.5 kg of the 5 kg bag. In the market-ready bill it is the wax: 10 kg makes 1,111.11 melts, using about 1.11 kg of the 1.4 kg of oil. And in every bill with containers, containers are one of the largest lines once you are selling — the real cost of going to market, and the reason to buy them only when scents have been proven.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The market-ready bill is the one we would most like you to buy. Do not buy it first. The kitchen test costs a fraction of it and tells you which of your scents deserve 500 g, which moulds you actually enjoy using, and whether your wax releases cleanly. Skipping it is how new melt businesses end up with a drawer of unsold containers and a kilo of a scent nobody chose.

Bill 1: the kitchen test

Four oils in 15 g from four different families, one kilo of wax, two cheap moulds, one colour and the two tools. At 10%, each 15 g tester scents fifteen illustrative 10 g melts. The oils are chosen for price and range, not measured throw — none is published for any oil.

Kitchen test · CSI live pricing, 24–25 September 2026
Bill 1 — ₹2,246.06
Category Item Pack Price
Wax Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 1 kg ₹599.00
Oil Eucalyptus Spearmint 15 g ₹68.44
Oil British Rose 15 g ₹94.40
Oil Apple Cinnamon 15 g ₹93.22
Oil Roasted Coconut 15 g ₹93.00
Mould Flower Silicon Mould / Wax Melts Mould 1 ₹200.60

Colour Candle Dye Liquid Red 15 g ₹236.00
Tools Candle Making Weighing Scale 1 ₹354.00
Tools Pen Thermometer 1 ₹354.00
Total ₹2,246.06

What you learn from this bill is worth more than the melts it makes. Pour each oil at 10% into both moulds, cure, and warm them. Note which scents your household and friends ask about, whether the melts release cleanly, how the red dye looks at the dose on its product page, and how long a melt lasts in a warmer. Which Fragrance Oils Give the Strongest Throw in Wax Melts? has a proper scoring sheet if you want to be rigorous; How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Wax Melts? has the gram maths for any cavity size.

1
The wax · stated ceiling 13%
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks
The only CSI wax with a 13% stated ceiling, which leaves the whole melt test range inside the wax maker's figure. It is a container wax — CSI does not list a wax sold specifically for melts — so test mould release before scaling. Priced flat at ₹599.00 a kilo from 1 kg to 5 kg.

Eucalyptus Spearmint Fragrance Oil
The cheapest in-stock 15 g at ₹68.44, near the top of CSI's best-selling sort, and one of the oils with a real kilo saving (13.3%). A sensible first oil for a test and a sensible core oil if it sells.

Bill 2: launch

The launch bill is where testers become stock. Every scent in it has already passed the kitchen test.

Five oils move up to 100 g — where the 15 g tester premium disappears — the wax moves to a 5 kg bag, and three moulds give you three product shapes. Fifty containers let you sell your first packs. Colour expands to two liquid dyes and a little white mica for shimmer.

At 10%, the 500 g of oil scents 500 illustrative 10 g melts and uses 4.5 kg of the 5 kg of wax. Fifty containers hold your first fifty packs — if each holds six 10 g melts, that is 300 melts packed, with the rest for samples, market displays and restocking. CSI does not publish the containers' fill weight, so weigh one filled before you set your pack size. The scale and thermometer carry over if you already bought the kitchen test; drop ₹708.00 from the total if so.

For a regular market stall or a small shop account, you need depth in your best two scents, a wider range behind them, enough moulds to pour a day's stock, and a hundred containers. Wax is bought as two 5 kg bags (₹5,990.00) rather than one 10 kg bag (₹5,999.00) — the 5 kg is fractionally cheaper per kilo on CSI's listed prices. At 10%, 10 kg of wax makes 1,111.11 illustrative melts, using about 1.11 kg of the 1.4 kg of oil. The hundred containers cost ₹2,950.00 — about half as much as the wax, and ₹29.50 on every pack you sell. That per-pack figure is the one to watch when you set a price. Wholesale Fragrance Oils for Wax Melt Businesses covers what changes when you outgrow the listed packs.

Ordering it well

1
Order the kitchen test firstEven if you are sure. It costs a fraction of the market-ready bill and settles your wax, moulds and first scents.
2
Weigh a cavity and a container on day oneCSI does not publish cavity weights or container fill weights. Weigh one of each; every later calculation depends on them.
3
Keep the load inside the ceilingChunks up to 13%, CSI 464 up to 10%. For any other wax, ask CSI for the stated maximum. Best Fragrance Load for Strong Wax Melts shows how to find the best load below the ceiling.
4
Move winners to 100 g, not straight to 1 kgFor most oils the kilo is the same price per gram as the 100 g. Buy 1 Kg Fragrance Oil for Commercial Wax Melt Making explains when the kilo is worth it.
5
Buy containers when scents are provenContainers add ₹29.50 to every pack you sell. Buy fifty for launch, a hundred when a stall or shop is regular.
6
Ask for the paperwork with the orderGST invoice, and MSDS and IFRA documentation for each oil, on WhatsApp at the time of ordering — before a shop asks you for them.

If you want the reasoning behind the wax, oils, dyes and moulds rather than the bill, I'm Starting a Wax Melt Business — Which Wax, Fragrance Oils, Dyes and Moulds Do I Need? walks through each choice. If you are deciding between melts and candles or want to make both, I Want to Make Soy Candles, Wax Melts and Mould Candles — Can I Use the Same Fragrance Oils for All Three? covers using the same oils across both. And Best Fragrance Oils for Wax Melts in India has a family-by-family shortlist of oils worth testing.

The line most starter lists forget. Colour. CSI does not publish a dye dose per kilo, and liquid dye at ₹236.00 for 15 g goes further or less far depending on the shade you want. Buy one colour for the kitchen test, follow the product page, and write down exactly how much you used per batch. When the launch comes, you will know how much of each colour to buy instead of guessing.
The CSI principle
Start with what tells you something. Scale what has told you yes.
A kitchen test answers questions for a few thousand rupees. A market-ready bill commits you to answers you may not have yet. Buy in that order — from one supplier, with one invoice — and every rupee after the first order is spent on something you already know sells.
Wax, oil, mould, colour, container, scale. Six lines, no wick — and the cheapest one to get wrong is the first.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished melts. A starter-bill page is an easy place to sell the biggest bill. This one recommends the smallest first, states plainly that CSI does not list a melt-specific wax or a fragrance starter kit, and says what you will need to source elsewhere.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live listings pulled on 24 September 2026; moulds, dyes, mica and containers from the 24–25 September 2026 pull; the weighing scale and pen thermometer are Blog 760's figures verified on 10 September 2026. Every bill line is a listed price; totals, category sums and melt capacities are arithmetic on those prices, shown to two decimals.

The 10 g melt, 10% load and six-melt pack are illustrative — CSI does not publish cavity weights, container fill weights or dye doses. The 13% (Chunks) and 10% (CSI 464) ceilings are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits. The Aroma Wax Sachet Making Kit's contents are not published in our data. For stock checks, a starter quote, GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to start a wax melt business?

What is the best wax to buy for wax melts in India?
CSI does not list a wax sold specifically as melt wax. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (up to 13%) gives the most headroom and CSI 464 (up to 10%) is cheaper per kilo; both are container waxes, so test mould release. For other waxes, ask CSI for the stated maximum.
