How to Buy Candle Fragrance Oils in Bulk Every Month

Read the ladder before you buy

An oil's price ladder is its price per gram at each size it is sold in. Across CSI's catalogue the ladder usually has one big step, from 15 g to 50 g or 100 g, and is then nearly flat: for 52 of the 91 oils listing both, the 1 kg costs within 1% of the 100 g per gram. That flatness is useful for a monthly buyer, because it means the pack mix barely matters for most oils. But 24 oils show a kilo saving of 5% or more, and a handful have ladders with a dip or a bump in the middle. Those are the oils where a monthly buying habit, repeated twelve times a year, either saves or wastes real money.

The diagram above plots four of those ladders against their own 100 g price. Citronella is the extreme case: its 500 g costs 38.5% of the 100 g rate per gram, and its kilo 37.7%. Saffron Cedarwood and its sibling Sage and Cedarwood share an identical ladder with a dip at 500 g. Love Spell runs the other way, with its 500 g at 111.3% of the 100 g rate. None of these are errors to exploit or avoid; they are simply the listed prices on 24 September 2026, and they are the reason a monthly bulk buyer should check the ladder of every scent they run at least once.

Turning a monthly target into packs

Once you know the ladder, a monthly target becomes a small arithmetic problem: which combination of in-stock 1 kg, 500 g and 100 g packs covers the grams you need for the least money? There are two sensible ways to answer it. Kilo-first buys as many whole kilos as fit, then finishes with the cheapest mix of 500 g and 100 g (and rounds up to another kilo if the remainder is over 900 g). Cheapest mix searches every combination for the lowest total. Here is what each gives for a target of 1,300 g, about 81 candles of 200 g at an 8% load:

Read the saving column. For Saffron Cedarwood the cheapest mix saves ₹1,699.20, 19.0% of the order; that is worth changing your habit for. For Citronella both methods land on the same kilo-plus-500 g, because its cliff sits exactly where kilo-first finishes; its lesson comes at small quantities, below. For Love Spell, Vanilla Orange Blossom and Smoked Rose Royale, the cheapest mix saves a few rupees by buying thirteen 100 g bottles instead of a kilo and three 100 g — not worth ten extra bottles to open, label and store. For Dark Vanilla Oud, two 500 g packs cost ₹1.00 less than the kilo; the choice is a matter of preference. That is why this page uses a simple working rule: buy kilo-first unless the cheapest mix saves 2% or more. When a smaller need still calls for a bigger pack

Citronella shows the one situation where you should buy more than you need. Its 100 g costs ₹767.00 and its 500 g ₹1,475.00, so from 200 g upward the 500 g is the cheaper purchase outright:

Citronella is a seasonal oil for many makers, strongest in outdoor and monsoon ranges, so the leftover grams may sit for a while. Even so, buying 500 g for a 200 g need costs less than buying the 200 g, and the rest carries into the next season. Check the product page for stock before relying on this; the price relationship is the pull-date listing, not a promise.

The monthly buying cycle

Some makers prefer to split the monthly order into two, mid-month and month end, to spread cash. That is a reasonable choice, but it has a cost worth seeing. Every order rounds up to whole packs, so two orders round up twice. For Dark Vanilla Oud at 1,300 g a month, one order buys 2 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g for ₹7,460.00. Two orders of 650 g each buy 1 × 500 g + 2 × 100 g twice, 1,400 g for ₹8,050.00. The rate per gram is about the same; the extra is 100 g of oil bought early. It is not wasted, it simply moves cash onto the shelf. Splitting makes most sense for oils bought in multiples of 100 g, where the rounding is small.

Timing within the month is the other lever. Lead time is not published, so do not plan as if the order arrives the next day. Until your own records show how long orders take, order early enough that the oil lands with a week or more to spare, and hold safety stock on the scents you cannot pour without. One month, five oils

Here is a worked month for a maker running five scents at different volumes. Each target is already net of stock on the shelf. Each line applies the 2% rule: kilo-first unless the cheapest mix saves 2% or more.

The same five targets cost ₹36,818.40 bought kilo-first everywhere, and ₹52,595.20 if every oil is rounded up to whole kilos. The chosen mixes save ₹1,699.20 against kilo-first, all of it on Saffron Cedarwood. Over twelve similar months that is ₹20,390.40 — enough to matter, and entirely from reading five ladders once. The oil per candle column shows why the mix is not the whole story, though: Vanilla Orange Blossom at ₹132.69 a candle costs more than twice Citronella's ₹59.79 whatever mix you choose. Scent choice sets the cost; the mix only trims it.
