Paraffin Candles · Strength
Every supplier claims strong oils. None can show you how an oil will perform in your paraffin, your jar and your room, and we will not pretend to. This page explains what makes a paraffin candle smell strong, names eight oils worth testing first with a reason for each, and prices a trial that settles the question in your own wax.
₹1,963.32
an 18-candle strength trial of six oils at 6%, 8% and 10% in 50 g jars · oil, wax, jars, wicks · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What are the strongest fragrance oils for paraffin? We have not published throw measurements, so no honest supplier list can rank them. Worth testing first: Cinnamon, Pumpkin Spice, Lemongrass and Lime, Verbena, Gilli Mitti, Palo Santo, Mahogany Teakwood and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco, each for a stated reason in the candidates.

Does more fragrance oil make paraffin stronger? Only up to a point, and only within the wax maker's limit, which is not published for CSI's paraffin in this data. Check the wax page or ask on WhatsApp. Past the point the wax and wick can handle, extra oil adds cost, not strength.

What does a stronger load cost? With Cinnamon at its 100 g rate in a 200 g paraffin candle, moving from 6% to 10% adds ₹44.37 per candle. See the load table.

How do I find the strong ones myself? Pour each candidate at 6%, 8% and 10% in 50 g jars and burn them side by side. Six oils in 15 g testers cost ₹1,963.32 all in. Which Fragrance Oils Give Strong Hot Throw in Paraffin Wax? adds the full hot-throw scoring sheet.
The short answer
Honest position: No measured throw data exists for any CSI oil. Candidates are named with a reason (family, best-selling position, price ladder), never ranked by strength.
Candidates: Cinnamon · Pumpkin Spice · Lemongrass and Lime · Verbena · Gilli Mitti · Palo Santo · Mahogany Teakwood (BBW Inspired) · Coffee Vanilla Tobacco.
Trial cost: Six oils × 3 loads, 50 g jars: ₹1,963.32. All eight oils: ₹3,403.32. Loads are test values; no paraffin ceiling is published in this data.
"Strong" is a product of five things — the oil is only one of them Weakness in any one box caps the result, however good the others are Oilformulation & family×Loadwithin the wax's limit×Melt poolwick sized to the jar×Curesame time for every test×Roomsize & airflow Test oils against each other with the other four boxes held identical — that is the only fair comparison
The five boxes multiply rather than add. A good oil in a candle whose melt pool never reaches the glass will still smell weak, and a perfect wick cannot rescue an oil that does not suit the room. That is why this page names candidate oils but asks you to judge them in a trial where the wax, wick, jar, cure and room are the same for every candle.
Straight answer
Which fragrance oils are strong in paraffin candles?
The honest answer starts with what we do not have: we have not published throw measurements for any oil, in paraffin or any other wax. Any list that ranks oils by strength, from us or anyone else, is opinion unless it comes with test data from your wax, wick and jar. What we can do is name oils worth testing first, each for a stated reason: Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice (warm spice, festive fit, identical price ladders), Lemongrass and Lime and Verbena (sharp fresh profiles with real 1 kg savings), Gilli Mitti (near the top of the best-selling sort), Palo Santo (resinous wood), and two premium checks, Mahogany Teakwood (BBW Inspired) and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco. Strength also depends on load, melt pool, cure and room. No fragrance ceiling is published for CSI's paraffin in this data, so check the wax page or ask on WhatsApp before you push the load, and use 6–10% as a test range only. Then run a side-by-side trial: six oils at three loads in 50 g jars costs ₹1,963.32 in materials.
One line: strong is something you measure in your own candle, not something a label can promise.
Start with the two spice candidates: Cinnamon 15 g ₹106.20 and Pumpkin Spice 15 g ₹106.20, with 500 g of paraffin pellets (₹177.00) and six 50 g Heart Cutout Velvet Jars (₹225.00 for five plus ₹45.00 for one). That is ₹659.40 for a six-candle comparison at 6%, 8% and 10%, before wicks.

What strong means in a paraffin candle

Customers say a candle is strong when it fills the room. Makers mean three different things by the same word, and it helps to separate them.

Cold throw is how the candle smells unlit, in the jar or on the shelf. It sells the candle in a shop or at a stall. Hot throw is how the room smells once the candle has burned long enough to form a full melt pool. It decides whether the customer buys again. Character is whether the scent smells like what the label promises once it is in the air. A candle can have a loud cold throw and a disappointing hot throw, or a quiet jar and a room that fills well. When you test for strength in paraffin, score all three separately.

Paraffin has a long history as a candle wax, and many makers find it easy to work with for scented candles. That is general practice, not a measured CSI result, and it does not tell you how any individual oil will perform. It is also why this page does not rank oils. We have no throw data for any CSI oil in any wax, and a strength ranking without data would be marketing, not guidance.

Strength and safety are different questions
A strong candle that soots, tunnels or flares is not a good candle. Every trial on this page scores burn quality alongside scent. For the documents that tell you an oil is suitable for candles, see candle-safe fragrance oils for paraffin.

The five levers, and what each one costs

Five things decide how strong a paraffin candle smells: the oil, the load, the melt pool, the cure and the room. You choose the oil and the load; the wick and jar set the melt pool; time sets the cure; your customer sets the room. Of the five, load is the one makers reach for first, and the only one that costs money every time you pour. The table shows what it costs, using Cinnamon at its 100 g rate of ₹5.90 a gram in a 200 g paraffin candle.

200 g paraffin candle · Cinnamon at 100 g rate · Eco Thin C1 wick · White Matte Glass Jar · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026
What each extra point of load costs
Load Oil Wax Oil cost Wax cost Material cost Oil's share
6% (test value) 12 g 188 g ₹70.80 ₹66.55 ₹214.05 33.1%
7% (test value) 14 g 186 g ₹82.60 ₹65.84 ₹225.14 36.7%
8% (test value) 16 g 184 g ₹94.40 ₹65.14 ₹236.24 40.0%
9% (test value) 18 g 182 g ₹106.20 ₹64.43 ₹247.33 42.9%
10% (test value) 20 g 180 g ₹118.00 ₹63.72 ₹258.42 45.7%

Each extra percentage point adds about ₹11.09 to the candle. Going from 6% to 10% adds ₹44.37, and at 10% the oil is 45.7% of the material cost. The wax saving from displacing it is tiny, because paraffin is so cheap: 8 g less wax saves ₹2.83. In paraffin, load is almost pure fragrance cost, so make sure it is buying you strength before you pay for it on every candle. No paraffin ceiling is published in this data; these are test values, and the wax maker's stated maximum, which you can ask for on WhatsApp, caps them.

What each lever costs and how to test it · general candle-making practice, not CSI measurements
The other four levers
Lever What it does What it costs to change How to test it
Oil Sets the profile and how it carries in the air The oil's price per gram × grams per candle Side-by-side trial at a fixed load
Melt pool (wick + jar) A pool that reaches the glass releases more scent than a narrow tunnel ₹5.90 (Eco Thin C1) or ₹12.00 (Cotton Braided) per wick; wick sizes per diameter are not published Burn until the pool reaches the edge; change one wick size at a time
Cure Many makers find scent develops over the first days after pouring Time and shelf space only Burn test candles from the same batch at different ages
Room The same candle reads strong in a small room and faint in a large one Nothing — but it decides how you describe the candle Test in the room size your customer has
Raising the load to fix a wick problem. The most common strength complaint in any wax is a candle whose melt pool never reaches the glass. The maker adds oil, the candle still tunnels, and now it costs more and may soot. Fix the melt pool first with a burn test, then decide whether the oil needs more load. How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Paraffin Wax? covers how to find the load that is enough.

Microcrystalline wax is sometimes blended into paraffin in general practice, usually to change texture or how the wax holds in a jar or mould. CSI lists a Microcrystalline Wax Slab at ₹149.00 for 500 g and ₹299.00 for 1 kg. Whether a blend changes how strong your candle smells is something to test, not assume, and blend ratios are not published in this data.

Eight oils worth testing first

These eight are not the strongest oils in the collection. They are eight good places to start looking, and each comes with the reason it is here.

Each candidate was chosen for a reason you can check: its fragrance family and the rooms that family is commonly bought for, its position in the Fragrance Oils collection's best-selling sort on 24 September 2026, or a price ladder that makes a winner cheap to scale. The list is in no order of strength. The oil cost column shows 16 g at each oil's 100 g rate, the per-candle oil cost at an 8% test load in a 200 g candle.

Candidates, not a ranking · best-selling position is the collection's sort order on 24 September 2026
Eight candidates for a strong paraffin candle
Oil Family Best-selling sort position Smallest in-stock size Oil per 200 g candle (100 g rate) Why it is a candidate
Cinnamon Spice 34th 15 g · ₹106.20 ₹94.40 Warm spice is a family makers commonly reach for when they want a bold room fill; festive season fit
Pumpkin Spice Spiced gourmand 35th 15 g · ₹106.20 ₹94.40 Same price ladder as Cinnamon, so the pair isolates profile from price; October–November demand
Lemongrass and Lime Citrus-herbal 17th 15 g · ₹116.52 ₹94.40 Sharp citrus-herbal profiles are commonly chosen for kitchens and open rooms; a real 1 kg saving (11.9%)
Verbena Herbal-citrus 42nd 15 g · ₹106.20 ₹94.40 A second fresh candidate with a 20.0% 1 kg saving, so a winner is cheap to scale
Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) Earthy 15th 15 g · ₹140.00 ₹143.36 Near the top of the best-selling sort; an earthy Indian profile with character at low loads to test
Palo Santo Woody-resinous 37th 15 g · ₹106.20 ₹96.29 Resinous woods are a common choice for living-room candles; priced flat from 50 g up
Mahogany Teakwood (BBW Inspired) Woody (inspired-by) 40th 50 g · ₹440.00 ₹140.80 A well-known inspired-by profile; tests whether a premium oil earns its price in paraffin
Coffee Vanilla Tobacco Gourmand-tobacco 47th 50 g · ₹449.00 ₹143.84 A dense gourmand; the premium-tier comparison for the spice pair

The candidates pair up deliberately. Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice have identical prices at every size, so any difference you notice between them is the profile, not the price tier. Lemongrass and Lime and Verbena are two fresh profiles, both with real 1 kg savings (11.9% and 20.0%). Palo Santo and Gilli Mitti are the woody-earthy pair. Mahogany Teakwood and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco are the premium checks: at ₹140.80 and ₹143.84 of oil per candle they need to earn their price against the spice pair at ₹94.40.

A strength trial you can afford

The cheapest honest strength test pours each candidate at three loads in small jars and burns them side by side. CSI lists a Heart Cutout Velvet Candle Jar with a stated 50 g wax capacity, at ₹45.00 each, ₹225.00 for five or ₹450.00 for ten. At 50 g, three test candles at 6%, 8% and 10% use 3 g, 4 g and 5 g of oil, 12 g in total, so one 15 g tester covers all three with 3 g spare.

Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 20 · ₹118.00 30 (20 + 10) · ₹177.00
Total ₹1,963.32 ₹3,403.32

The six-oil trial uses the six candidates with a 15 g tester, pours 18 candles and needs 828 g of wax, rounded up to 1 kg after a 4% allowance. The full eight-oil trial adds Mahogany Teakwood and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco, which start at 50 g (₹440.00 and ₹449.00), and leaves you 38 g of each for a follow-up 200 g candle at 8% (16 g each), with oil to spare. The wick is an Eco Thin C1 as a starting point; wick size for a 50 g jar is not published in this data, so if the pool does not reach the edge, change the wick before you judge the oil.

1
Confirm your load rangeCheck the paraffin page for a stated maximum or ask on WhatsApp. If the wax maker's figure is below 10%, drop the 10% candle from the trial.
2
Weigh, do not measure by volumeUse a scale. At 50 g, 3 g, 4 g and 5 g of oil are the difference between the three loads, and a spoonful is not accurate enough. The Candle Making Weighing Scale is ₹354.00.
3
Pour all candles from one melt of waxWeigh each candle's wax, add the oil, stir thoroughly and pour. Follow the paraffin product page for temperatures; this guide does not set them.
4
Label and cure togetherOil, load, date. Cure every candle for the same time before the first burn.
5
Burn in threesBurn one oil's three loads in the same room on the same day, one at a time, then compare across oils at the load that performed best. Which Fragrance Oils Give Strong Hot Throw in Paraffin Wax? has a scoring sheet and a fuller matrix.
6
Scale the winners in 200 gPour the best two or three oils at their best load in your real jar and wick before you buy a production size.

Reading the results honestly

A trial answers a narrow question: which of these oils, at which load, smells strongest in this candle, in this room. That is the only question you need answered.

Resist the urge to generalise. An oil that wins in a 50 g jar in a small bedroom may behave differently in a 200 g jar in a living room, so repeat the final comparison at your real size. Where two oils score close, choose on price. In paraffin, where the oil is already the largest single material cost, the cheaper of two equally strong oils is the better commercial oil. Lemongrass and Lime at ₹83.20 per candle at 1 kg against Coffee Vanilla Tobacco at ₹137.58 is a gap of ₹54.38 on every candle you ever make.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell more premium oil if we told you the expensive oils are the strong ones. Price does not measure strength. Mahogany Teakwood and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco are in this trial so that you can check whether they earn their price in your paraffin, not because we expect them to win. If a ₹5.90-a-gram spice matches them in your room, make the spice candle.
The CSI principle
Strong is a result, not an ingredient.
No oil arrives strong. It becomes strong in a candle with the right load, a full melt pool, a proper cure and a room it suits. Test the oil inside that system, keep the winners, and describe the candle by what your tests showed, not by what a label promised.

For the next steps: How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Paraffin Wax? sets the load once you have a winner, Fragrance Oil for Paraffin Wax Commercial Production costs a production run around it, and Best Fragrance Oils for Paraffin Candle Making is the family shortlist if you want to widen the trial beyond these eight. If you are also making soy candles, Strong Fragrance Oils for Soy Wax Candles runs the same exercise for soy, and Strong Fragrance Oils for Wax Melts does it for wax melts. To buy the winners, Buy Fragrance Oils for Paraffin Wax Candles in India covers pack sizes and Buy 1 Kg Fragrance Oil for Paraffin Candle Making covers when a kilo makes sense.

Festive candles need their strength settled early. Diwali falls on 8 November 2026, and a strength trial needs pouring, curing and burning before you commit to production quantities. Send us your candidate list on WhatsApp and we will help you put the trial order together, with MSDS and IFRA documents for the oils you keep.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. It would be easy, and good for sales, to publish a list of our "strongest" oils. We have not published throw measurements for any oil, so this page names candidates with a reason each and gives you a trial to run instead. We included two premium oils in the trial specifically so that you can check whether their price is justified.

Every oil and wax price on this page comes from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026. Wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026, with the Eco 20-pack and the Heart Cutout Velvet Jar from the 24–25 September pull. Best-selling positions are the Fragrance Oils collection's sort order on the pull date, not sales data. Per-candle and trial totals are plain arithmetic on those prices.

Loads of 6%, 8% and 10% are test values, not a specification: no fragrance ceiling is published for CSI's paraffin in this data. The cure, melt-pool and room effects described are general candle-making practice. For the wax maker's stated maximum, MSDS, IFRA certificates or help planning a trial, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Which fragrance oil has the strongest throw in paraffin wax?
There is no measured answer: we have not published throw measurements for any oil. Test candidates side by side in your own wax. Worth testing first: Cinnamon, Pumpkin Spice, Lemongrass and Lime, Verbena, Gilli Mitti, Palo Santo, Mahogany Teakwood (BBW Inspired) and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco.
Why does my paraffin candle not smell strong?
Check the melt pool first: if it does not reach the edge of the jar, the wick is likely too small for the jar. Then check the cure time and the room size. Only then raise the load, within the wax maker's stated maximum, which you can ask CSI for on WhatsApp.
Is paraffin wax stronger smelling than soy wax?
Many makers find paraffin easy to scent, but that is general practice, not a measured CSI result. The honest way to know is to pour the same oil at the same load in both waxes and burn them side by side. Strong Fragrance Oils for Soy Wax Candles covers strong oils in soy.
How much fragrance oil makes a paraffin candle strong?
No paraffin ceiling is published in this data. Test inside 6–10% and treat that as a test range. With Cinnamon at 100 g rates, each extra point of load adds about ₹11.09 to a 200 g candle. How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Paraffin Wax? has the full ladder.
Are expensive fragrance oils stronger?
Price does not measure strength. It reflects the formula. Put one premium oil in your trial alongside cheaper ones and let the burn test decide whether it earns its price.
What is the cheapest way to test fragrance oils for strength?
Pour each oil at 6%, 8% and 10% in 50 g jars. One 15 g tester covers all three (12 g). Six oils with wax, 18 Heart Cutout Velvet Jars and wicks cost ₹1,963.32.

Loads are test values; no fragrance ceiling is published for CSI's paraffin in this data. Cold throw, hot throw, cure and melt-pool effects are described from general candle-making practice, not CSI measurements. Best-selling positions are the collection's sort order on 24 September 2026. Prices and availability change — the linked product pages are always authoritative.
