Paraffin Candles · Candle-Safe
"Candle-safe" is not a single stamp on a bottle. It is a handful of checks: the oil is sold for candles, its IFRA certificate and MSDS are available, and it burns cleanly in your paraffin with your wick. This page explains each check, what it does and does not tell you, and where to get it.
5 checks
sold for candles · IFRA certificate · MSDS · your burn test · supply and paperwork — no single label replaces them
Quick answers — read this first
Where can I buy candle-safe fragrance oils for paraffin in India? From a supplier that sells oils specifically for candle making and supplies the documents. CSI lists 93 oils in its Fragrance Oils collection for candles, with IFRA certificates and MSDS on request on WhatsApp and GST invoicing on every order.

What makes a fragrance oil candle-safe? Three supplier facts and one test: it is sold for candles, it has an IFRA certificate covering use in candles, its MSDS is available, and it passes your burn test in your paraffin, wick and jar. See the five checks.

Does flash point tell me if an oil is safe in a candle? No. Flash point matters for storage and transport. It is on the MSDS, and it says nothing about how the oil performs or burns in a finished candle.

What is the IFRA limit for these oils? This guide does not state any individual oil's IFRA figures. They are on each oil's IFRA certificate, which CSI provides on request. Ask for it per oil before you launch a product.
The short answer
Supplier checks: Sold for candle making · IFRA certificate on request · MSDS on request · GST invoice · current stock status on the product page.
Your checks: Wax maker's stated maximum (not published for CSI's paraffin in this data — ask) · burn test for soot, smoke, tunnelling and scent in your wick and jar.
Flash point: A storage and transport figure on the MSDS. Not a measure of candle performance or burn safety.
Shop: Fragrance Oils · Paraffin Pellets · documents on WhatsApp.
"Candle-safe" is five checks, not one label Four are documents and facts a supplier provides · one only your own burn test can answer 1Sold for candleslisted in the candleFragrance Oils range2IFRA certificateuse level by productcategory — on request3MSDShandling, storage, transport, flash point4Your burn testin your paraffin, wick and jar5Supply & paperworkGST invoice, stock, batch records This guide does not state any individual oil's IFRA figures or flash point — they are on the documents, which CSI supplies on request.
The first three checks and the fifth come from the supplier: the oil's listing, its documents and the paperwork around the order. The fourth, shaded, comes only from your own workshop, because no document can tell you how an oil behaves in your paraffin with your wick and jar. A candle maker needs all five before calling a product ready.
Straight answer
Where should you buy candle-safe fragrance oils for paraffin wax, and what should you check?
Buy from a supplier that sells its oils for candle making and hands over the documents, then finish the job with your own burn test. At CSI, the 93 oils in the Fragrance Oils collection are sold for candles; the IFRA certificate and MSDS for each oil are available on request on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926, and every order comes with a GST invoice. Know what each document does. The IFRA certificate states the oil's maximum use levels by product category, including candles, and this guide does not quote any oil's figures. The MSDS covers handling and storage, and the flash point on it matters for storage and transport, not for how the candle burns. Neither tells you how the oil behaves in your paraffin. For that, you need the wax maker's stated maximum for Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets, which is not published in this data, so ask for it, and a burn test in your own wick and jar. An oil that passes all five checks is ready for your product. A three-oil verification order with paraffin, jars and wicks costs ₹1,814.00.
One line: candle-safe is proven by documents plus your own burn test — ask for the first, do the second.
Before you launch a paraffin range, ask for the paperwork on every oil in it. IFRA certificates and MSDS are supplied on request, per oil, on WhatsApp. Send your list with the order so the documents arrive with the oils.

What candle-safe actually means

Every supplier says its oils are candle-safe. The phrase is only as good as the checks behind it.

There is no single certificate called "candle-safe". In practice, a candle maker means several things by it: that the oil is made and sold for candles rather than for perfume, cosmetics or food; that it can be used in candles within the limits of the IFRA standard it was assessed against; that its hazards and handling are documented; and that it burns properly in the candle the maker is producing. The first three are the supplier's job. The last is yours, and it changes with the wax, wick, jar and load.

For paraffin specifically, there is one more piece: the wax. Paraffin can hold only so much oil, and that limit is a property of the wax, stated by the wax maker. No fragrance ceiling is published for CSI's paraffin in the data behind this series. Check the paraffin product page or ask CSI on WhatsApp, and treat 6–10% as a test range until you have the figure. How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Paraffin Wax? covers the load in detail.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. It would be easy for us to print "candle-safe" on every oil and stop there. That label would not tell you what you need to know, and it would not satisfy a retailer or corporate buyer who asks for documents. So we tell you what to ask for, what each document does and does not cover, and that the final check is a burn test only you can run. If a supplier cannot provide the documents, do not use the oil in a product you sell.

The five checks, one by one

The table sets out each check: what it tells you, what it does not, and where to get it. The middle column matters most, because most confusion about candle safety comes from asking one document to answer a question it was never meant to answer.

What each check covers · general guidance, not a legal or regulatory opinion
Candle-safe, check by check
Check What it tells you What it does not tell you Where to get it at CSI
Is it sold for candle making? The oil is supplied for candles, not as a perfume, cosmetic or food flavouring How it performs in your wax It is listed in CSI's Fragrance Oils collection for candle making
IFRA certificate The oil's maximum use levels by product category, candles included, under the IFRA standard it was assessed against How strong it is, or how it burns On request on WhatsApp, per oil
MSDS (safety data sheet) Hazards, handling, storage, spill and first-aid information; flash point for storage and transport Whether the candle is safe to burn, or its throw On request on WhatsApp, per oil
Flash point (on the MSDS) How the oil should be stored and shipped Anything about candle performance or burn safety On the MSDS
Wax maker's stated maximum How much oil the wax can hold Anything about the oil's documents Not published for CSI's paraffin in this data — ask on WhatsApp
Your burn test Whether this oil, at this load, with this wick and jar, burns cleanly and smells right Regulatory compliance Your own workshop
GST invoice and batch record Traceability: what you bought, when, from whom Anything about the oil's properties With every CSI order

Read the table as a set, not a menu. An IFRA certificate does not tell you whether a candle soots; a burn test does not tell you whether you are within use limits; an MSDS does not tell you either. A product is ready when all of them are satisfied. If you sell to a retailer, hotel or corporate client, expect to be asked for the IFRA certificate and MSDS for each scent, and keep them on file by oil and by batch.

Flash point, in one line
Flash point is the temperature at which an oil's vapour can ignite when a flame or spark is applied. It matters for how the oil is stored and transported, and it is recorded on the MSDS. It does not tell you whether the oil is suitable for candles or how it will throw. This guide does not state any oil's flash point.

Getting and reading the documents

CSI provides IFRA certificates and MSDS on request, per oil, through WhatsApp at +91 7397976926. The quickest way is to send the list with your order, using each oil's store name exactly as listed. The steps below cover what to ask for and what to do when the documents arrive.

1
List the oils by their store namesFor example, "Raat Ki Rani (Night-Blooming Jasmine) Fragrance Oil", not "night jasmine". Similar names can refer to different oils, such as Neroli and Neroli Signature Grade.
2
Ask for the IFRA certificate for each oilCheck that it names the oil you bought and that candles are covered among the product categories. Note the use level it states for candles and keep your load within it, as well as within the wax maker's maximum.
3
Ask for the MSDS for each oilRead the handling and storage sections before the oil reaches your workshop. Note the flash point for storage and transport.
4
Ask for the paraffin's details tooAsk for the wax maker's stated maximum fragrance load for the Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets, since it is not published in this data.
5
File by oil and by batchKeep the documents with the GST invoice for the order. When a client asks, you can produce the right document for the right scent in minutes.
6
Re-request when you reorder a different sizeIt costs nothing to confirm the documents still match the oil you are buying, and it keeps your file current.
Using the lower of two limits as if it were the only one. Your load must satisfy two separate limits: the use level on the oil's IFRA certificate for candles, and the wax maker's stated maximum for the paraffin. They come from different documents and answer different questions. Check both, and stay within whichever is lower.

The check only you can do

No document has ever burned in your jar. Your test candle has.

A burn test answers what the documents cannot: whether this oil, at this load, in this paraffin, with this wick and jar, burns cleanly and smells right. Pour test candles, cure them, and burn them to a full melt pool while watching for soot, smoke, a flame that grows too tall, tunnelling, or wax pooling unevenly. Wick sizes for particular jar diameters are not published in this data, so the burn test is also how you confirm your wick. Change one thing at a time, and record every candle.

What to watch in a burn test · general candle-making practice
Burn-test observations and what they usually point to
You see Commonly points to Change first
Soot or black smoke Wick too large for the jar, or load too high for the wax Try the next wick size down; then reduce load
Tunnelling, pool not reaching the edge Wick too small for the jar Try the next wick size up
Flame too tall or flickering hard Wick too large, or wick not trimmed Trim the wick; then try a smaller wick
Oil on the surface or seeping More oil than the wax can hold Reduce load; ask for the wax maker's stated maximum
Weak scent at a full pool Load, cure time or room size See the strength and hot-throw guides before raising load

Two sibling guides extend this. Which Fragrance Oils Give Strong Hot Throw in Paraffin Wax? turns the burn test into a hot-throw matrix with a scoring sheet, and Strong Fragrance Oils for Paraffin Candles covers the other strength levers. For choosing oils to test in the first place, Best Fragrance Oils for Paraffin Candle Making has an eight-oil shortlist.

The CSI principle
Documents prove the oil. The burn test proves the candle.
The IFRA certificate and MSDS tell you about the oil. They cannot tell you about the candle you make with it. Ask for the first, run the second, and only call a product ready when both agree.

Where to buy, and a verification order

For a paraffin maker in India, CSI covers the supplier side in one place: Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets at ₹177.00 for 500 g and ₹354.00 for 1 kg; 93 oils in the Fragrance Oils collection, sold for candle making; IFRA certificates and MSDS per oil on request; and GST invoicing. What CSI cannot do for you is the burn test. The verification order below gives you three oils to document and test before you commit to production.

The two 15 g testers each pour one 200 g candle at 7.5% (15 g oil + 185 g wax). Midnight Bakhoor Royale starts at 100 g, which pours up to six test candles at 8%, so you can test it at three loads from one bottle. That uses all five jars and about 922 g of the kilo of paraffin; the ten wicks leave five spare for a second wick size, with a second pack of jars if you re-pour. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We could simply label every oil candle-safe. Instead, this page explains what the documents we supply do and do not cover, why flash point is a storage figure, and why the final check is a burn test in your own workshop.

Prices on this page come from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026; jar and wick prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. This guide deliberately states no IFRA figures, flash points or paraffin fragrance maximum for any product, because none is in the data behind this series; they are on the documents CSI supplies on request.

The descriptions of IFRA certificates, MSDS and burn-test observations are general guidance, not a legal or regulatory opinion. For IFRA certificates, MSDS, the paraffin's stated maximum or GST invoicing, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Which fragrance oils are safe for paraffin candles?
Oils sold for candle making, with an IFRA certificate that covers candles and an MSDS, used within both the certificate's candle use level and the paraffin maker's stated maximum, and confirmed by your own burn test. CSI's 93 Fragrance Oils are sold for candles; documents are on request.
Do CSI fragrance oils come with an IFRA certificate?
IFRA certificates and MSDS are available on request, per oil, through WhatsApp at +91 7397976926. This guide does not quote any individual oil's figures; ask for the certificate for each oil you use.
Can I use essential oils or perfume in paraffin candles instead?
This guide covers oils sold for candle making. Oils sold for other purposes may not come with candle documentation. Whatever you use, get its IFRA certificate and MSDS and burn-test it before selling.
What flash point is safe for candle fragrance oil?
Flash point is a storage and transport figure on the MSDS; it does not decide whether an oil is suitable for candles or how it performs. Follow the MSDS for storage and handling, and rely on the IFRA certificate and your burn test for use.
What is an MSDS for fragrance oil?
A material safety data sheet: it sets out the oil's hazards, safe handling, storage, spill and first-aid information, and physical data such as flash point. CSI supplies it on request, per oil.
How much fragrance oil is safe in paraffin wax?
Stay within two limits: the candle use level on the oil's IFRA certificate, and the paraffin maker's stated maximum load, which is not published in this data, so ask CSI. Test inside 6–10% as a test range. How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Paraffin Wax? has the ladder.
