Paraffin Candles · Hot Throw
Hot throw is how a room smells once a candle has burned to a full melt pool. It is the reason customers come back, and it cannot be read off a bottle. We have not published throw measurements for any oil, so this page gives you the matrix to measure it yourself.
₹4,636.20
the full two-round hot-throw matrix in paraffin: six oils, 18 candles of 200 g, jars, wicks and wax · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which fragrance oils give the best hot throw in paraffin? We have not published throw measurements, so we will not rank oils. Worth testing first: Japanese Cherry Blossom, Bergamot Amber, Woody Oud, Cinnamon Vanilla, Autumn and Juicy Orange, each for a stated reason in the candidates.

How do I test hot throw fairly? Change one thing at a time. Same wax, jar, wick, pour day and cure for every candle; burn one at a time in the same room to a full melt pool; score on a fixed 1–5 scale. The protocol is in running the matrix.

What load should I test at? No paraffin ceiling is published in this data. This matrix uses 7% and 9% as test values (14 g and 18 g in a 200 g candle). Ask CSI on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum and stay below it.

What does the test cost? Eighteen 200 g candles poured in one session, with six 50 g oils, paraffin, jars and two wick types, cost ₹4,636.20. With four oils instead of six, ₹3,985.80. Itemised in the order.
The short answer
Honest position: No measured hot-throw data exists for any CSI oil. Candidates are named for family, best-selling position and price, never ranked by throw.
Matrix: One session, 18 × 200 g candles: each oil at 7% and 9% with Eco Thin C1, plus 7% with Cotton Braided. Round 1 burns the 12 Eco candles; round 2 burns the top two oils' Cotton candles.
Scoring: 1 (arm's length only) to 5 (carries beyond the room), at full melt pool and after a set burn time, plus character, time to full pool and soot.
The paraffin hot-throw matrix — measure it yourself, because nobody has published it One pour session, 18 candles · Round 1: six oils × two test loads · Round 2: wick check Japanese Cherry Blossom14 g · score __18 g · score __Bergamot Amber14 g · score __18 g · score __Woody Oud14 g · score __18 g · score __Cinnamon Vanilla14 g · score __18 g · score __Autumn14 g · score __18 g · score __Juicy Orange14 g · score __18 g · score __7%9% Round 2 Top 2 oils at 7% Eco Thin C1 vs Cotton Braided poured with round 1, same age Loads are test values — no paraffin ceiling is published in this data; stop below the wax maker's stated maximum.
All 18 candles are poured in one session so they are the same age. Round 1 burns the twelve Eco-wicked candles to compare oils and loads. Round 2 burns the Cotton Braided candles of the two best oils at 7% against their Eco candles at 7%, so only the wick changes. Each box is one 200 g candle with its oil weight; the score line is filled in from your burn. The two rounds together answer the question a ranking cannot: which oil, at which load, with which wick, throws best in your candle.
Straight answer
Which fragrance oils give strong hot throw in paraffin wax?
Nobody can answer that for your candle without testing it, and we have not published throw measurements for any oil. Hot throw depends on the oil's formulation, the load within the wax's limit, a wick that brings the melt pool to the edge, the cure time and the size of the room. What we can do honestly is name six oils worth testing first, with a reason for each: Japanese Cherry Blossom, Bergamot Amber and Woody Oud sit near the top of the Fragrance Oils collection's best-selling sort; Cinnamon Vanilla and Autumn are festive-season profiles; and Juicy Orange is the premium citrus that has to earn its price. Then run a two-round matrix. Round 1 pours each oil at 7% and 9% of a 200 g paraffin candle, as test values, since no paraffin ceiling is published in this data. Round 2 compares two wicks for the two best, using candles poured in the same session. Score every candle on the same 1–5 scale in the same room. The full matrix, 18 candles with Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets, jars and wicks, costs ₹4,636.20. The oil that wins is your best hot-throw oil, for your candle.
One line: hot throw is measured in your room, at full melt pool — not on a product page.
The whole matrix in one order: six 50 g oils (₹1,743.20), 3.5 kg of paraffin pellets (₹1,239.00), twenty White Matte Glass Jars (four packs, ₹1,416.00), twenty Eco Thin C1 wicks (₹118.00) and ten Cotton Braided Wicks (₹120.00). Total ₹4,636.20 for eighteen 200 g test candles.

What hot throw is, and what drives it

Cold throw sells the first candle. Hot throw sells the second.

Hot throw is the scent a candle releases into a room while it burns, once the melt pool has formed. It is different from cold throw, the scent of the unlit candle, and the two do not always agree. A candle with a loud jar can fill a room disappointingly, and a quiet one can surprise you. Because hot throw is what the customer experiences at home, it is the measure a repeat-buyer business needs to get right.

Five things drive it, and only one of them is the oil. Load, within the wax maker's stated limit. Melt pool: a wick that brings the pool to the edge of the jar exposes more scented wax than a narrow tunnel. Cure: many makers find scent develops over the days after pouring, so compare candles of the same age. Room: the same candle reads strong in a small bedroom and faint in a large hall. And the oil's formulation, which is what you are trying to isolate. A fair test holds the first four constant so the fifth shows through. Strong Fragrance Oils for Paraffin Candles covers these levers in more depth.

Why we will not publish a ranking
A hot-throw ranking would need controlled burns of every oil in every wax, at several loads and wicks, in rooms of known size. We have not done that, and a ranking without it would be guesswork presented as fact. The matrix below is the smallest honest version you can run yourself.

Six oils worth testing first

Each candidate is here for a reason you can check: position in the Fragrance Oils collection's best-selling sort on 24 September 2026, a seasonal fit, or a price point worth testing against. The list is in sort order, not in any order of throw. The per-candle column shows the oil cost at 7% and 9% in a 200 g candle at each oil's 50 g rate, since the matrix buys 50 g of each.

Candidates, not a ranking · best-selling position = collection sort order on 24 September 2026 · CSI live pricing
Six hot-throw candidates for paraffin
Oil Family Best-selling sort position ₹/g at 50 g Oil per candle at 7% / 9% Why it is a candidate
Japanese Cherry Blossom Floral 8th ₹5.40 ₹75.60 / ₹97.20 Near the top of the best-selling sort; a soft floral tests whether gentle profiles carry in your room
Bergamot Amber Citrus-amber 11th ₹5.60 ₹78.40 / ₹100.80 Near the top of the sort; a bright top over a warm base, a common choice for living rooms
Woody Oud Woody 12th ₹5.43 ₹75.99 / ₹97.70 Near the top of the sort and the lowest-priced oud-style oil at 100 g
Cinnamon Vanilla Spiced gourmand 18th ₹5.43 ₹75.99 / ₹97.70 Warm spice-vanilla for the festive season; a small real 1 kg saving (5.9%)
Autumn Seasonal blend 24th ₹5.43 ₹75.99 / ₹97.70 An autumnal blend priced flat from 50 g to 1 kg
Juicy Orange Citrus 44th ₹7.58 ₹106.12 / ₹136.44 The dearest oil in the matrix; checks whether a premium citrus earns its price

The mix is deliberate. Three oils from near the top of the sort tell you whether popular scents also perform in your paraffin. Two seasonal oils cover the October–November window. And Juicy Orange, at ₹7.58 a gram against ₹5.43 for Woody Oud, is the price check: if it does not clearly out-throw the cheaper oils in your room, it does not belong in a value paraffin range. None of these reasons is a prediction of the result.

Running the matrix

Eighteen candles, one pour session, one variable per round, one room. That discipline is the whole method.

Round 1 compares six oils at two loads with everything else fixed: 200 g of paraffin candle in a White Matte Glass Jar, one Eco Thin C1 wick, poured on the same day from the same wax. The loads are 7% (14 g oil, 186 g wax) and 9% (18 g oil, 182 g wax). These are test values; no paraffin ceiling is published in this data, so ask CSI for the wax maker's stated maximum and drop the 9% row if it is above that figure. Each oil also gets a third candle at 7% with a Cotton Braided wick, poured in the same session for round 2. That is 14 g + 18 g + 14 g = 46 g of oil, so one 50 g pack per oil covers all three with 4 g spare.

1
Confirm the maximum and the wickAsk on WhatsApp for the paraffin's stated maximum. Wick sizes for this jar are not published in this data, so pour one untested candle first and check that the Eco Thin C1 reaches a full melt pool. If it does not, change the wick for the whole matrix, not candle by candle.
2
Pour all eighteen in one sessionWeigh the wax and oil for each candle separately. Follow the paraffin product page for temperatures. Label each jar with a code (A1, A2 …), the oil, the load and the date.
3
Cure them togetherChoose a cure time and use it for every candle. Score all candles at the same age, and if you want to know how scent develops, repeat the burn at a later age too.
4
Burn one candle at a time in the same roomSame room, doors and windows the same, no other scents. Note the room's approximate size on the sheet. Air the room fully between candles.
5
Score at fixed checkpointsRecord the time to a full melt pool, then score throw at that point and again after a set time, for example one hour later. Score from the doorway and from the far side of the room. Note character and any soot or smoke.
6
Run round 2 on the two bestTake the two best oils from round 1 and burn their 7% candles with a Cotton Braided Wick, scoring them against the same oils' 7% Eco candles. Because all were poured together, only the wick differs. This tells you whether the wick, not the oil, was limiting the result. The other four Cotton candles are spares for a re-burn.
Judging in a room that already smells. The most common error in home throw tests is scoring a candle in a room still carrying the last one, or near a kitchen, incense or diffuser. Air the room fully, burn one candle at a time, and have a second person score blind where possible. A tired nose rates every candle lower after the third.

The scoring sheet

Use one fixed scale for every candle, and write it at the top of the sheet so every scorer uses the same words. The scale below is deliberately simple. A number without a definition drifts; a number tied to where you can smell the candle does not.

Throw scale · score at full melt pool and at a fixed later checkpoint
The 1–5 hot-throw scale
Score What it means in your test room
1 Barely noticeable at arm's length, even at full melt pool
2 Noticeable near the candle, not across the room
3 Clearly present across the room you are testing in
4 Fills the room; noticeable on walking back in
5 Carries beyond the room, into a doorway or hallway
Copy this sheet · one row per candle · add room size and cure time at the top
Paraffin hot-throw scoring sheet
Code Oil Load Wick Cure Time to full pool Throw at full pool (1–5) Throw at checkpoint 2 (1–5) Character (1–5) Soot / tunnelling / notes
A1 Japanese Cherry Blossom 7% Eco Thin C1
A2 Japanese Cherry Blossom 9% Eco Thin C1
B1 Bergamot Amber 7% Eco Thin C1
… …continue for all 18 candles

Add the two throw scores for a simple total out of 10, and use character as the tie-breaker. A candle that throws strongly but smells wrong, harsh or unlike its label is not a winner. Any candle that soots, smokes or tunnels is disqualified at that load, whatever it scored for throw, until the wick is fixed.

The CSI principle
One variable per round, one room per test, one scale for every candle.
The matrix only works if everything except the thing you are testing is identical. Change the oil in round 1 and the wick in round 2. Keep the wax, jar, pour day, cure, room and scale the same, and the scores will mean something.

The order, priced

One pour session · 18 × 200 g candles · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026
Everything the matrix needs
Item Quantity Price
Japanese Cherry Blossom 50 g ₹270.00
Bergamot Amber 50 g ₹280.00
Woody Oud 50 g ₹271.40
Cinnamon Vanilla 50 g ₹271.40
Autumn 50 g ₹271.40
Juicy Orange 50 g ₹379.00
Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets 3.5 kg ₹1,239.00
White Matte Glass Jar 4 packs of 5 (20 jars, 2 spare) ₹1,416.00
Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 20 ₹118.00
Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made 10 ₹120.00
Total 18 test candles ₹4,636.20

The eighteen candles use 3,324 g of wax; with a 4% allowance that rounds up to 3.5 kg. Each oil's 50 g covers 46 g of candles with 4 g spare. The two spare jars allow a re-pour if a candle fails for reasons unrelated to the oil, such as a wick that slipped off centre. If budget is tight, drop to four oils: the order falls to ₹3,985.80 even before you trim the wax and jars to match.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We included Juicy Orange, the dearest oil here at ₹7.58 a gram, to test our own premium pricing. If it does not throw clearly better than Woody Oud at ₹5.43 in your paraffin, buy the cheaper oil. In paraffin, where the oil is the largest single material cost, the gap between them is ₹47.34 a candle at 8% on 100 g rates, and a customer only pays for the difference they can smell.

Turning scores into a range

When the sheets are complete, you will have a throw score, a character score and a cost for every oil at two loads. Keep the oils that score well on both, at the lower load that gets them there. If an oil scores the same at 7% and 9%, it goes into production at 7%: with Woody Oud at 100 g rates, that saves ₹18.12 on every 200 g candle. How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Paraffin Wax? refines the load further with a finer ladder, and Fragrance Oil for Paraffin Wax Commercial Production costs the production run.

Keep your sheets. When you add a new oil later, you only need to test it against your current best seller, not rerun the whole matrix. If you also sell soy candles, Which Fragrance Oils Give the Best Hot Throw in Soy Wax? runs the equivalent test for soy, and Which Fragrance Oils Give Strong Hot Throw in Coconut Soy Wax? for coconut soy. The same method works for small formats too; see Which Fragrances Work Best in Small Candles?. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We have not published throw measurements for any oil, and we say so at the top of this page. The candidates are chosen for stated reasons, including one premium oil put in specifically to test whether its price is justified.

Every oil and wax price on this page comes from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026. Wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Best-selling positions are the Fragrance Oils collection's sort order on the pull date, not sales data. Totals are plain arithmetic on the listed prices.

Loads of 7% and 9% are test values; no fragrance ceiling is published for CSI's paraffin in this data. The scoring scale and checkpoints are a suggested protocol, and the effects of cure, melt pool and room size are general candle-making practice. For the paraffin's stated maximum, MSDS or IFRA certificates, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Which fragrance oil has the best hot throw in paraffin wax?
There is no measured answer; we have not published throw measurements for any oil. Test candidates side by side. Worth testing first: Japanese Cherry Blossom, Bergamot Amber, Woody Oud, Cinnamon Vanilla, Autumn and Juicy Orange.
How do you test the hot throw of a candle?
Pour candles that differ in one thing only, cure them for the same time, and burn one at a time in the same aired room until the melt pool reaches the edge. Score throw at full pool and at a fixed later checkpoint on a defined 1–5 scale, from the doorway and across the room.
Why does my paraffin candle have good cold throw but weak hot throw?
Check the melt pool first: if it does not reach the edge, the wick may be too small for the jar. Then check cure time and room size. Only then consider the load, within the wax maker's stated maximum, and the oil itself.
Does paraffin give a better hot throw than soy?
Many makers find paraffin easy to scent, but that is general practice, not a CSI measurement. Pour the same oil at the same load in both waxes and score them with the same sheet. Which Fragrance Oils Give the Best Hot Throw in Soy Wax? covers soy.
What fragrance load gives the best hot throw in paraffin?
No paraffin ceiling is published in this data. Test 7% and 9% as values below the wax maker's stated maximum, which CSI can give you on WhatsApp. If both score the same, use the lower load.
How many candles do I need to test hot throw properly?
This matrix pours 18: each of six oils at 7% and 9% with one wick (12), plus each at 7% with a second wick (6), all in one session so they are the same age. You can cut it to four oils and 12 candles, but keep one variable per round.
