Quick answers — read this first
What is the process? Choose → screen clarity → test reeds → measure 30 days → cost and price → first production run → bulk buying → release and repeat. Each stage has a gate.

How much oil and base per 100 ml? At 20% by weight, 20 g oil + 80 g base for a 100 g fill at an example 1.00 g/ml (95 g–105 g at ±5%).

Can I buy diffuser base in bulk? CSI lists bases in 500 ml (Pure Performance also 100 g) — no 1 kg, 5 kg or 25 kg listing. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp; no discount is published.

What do the three purchases cost? Clarity screen ₹2,480.00, reed test ₹3,821.00, first run of 60 ₹27,473.00. See the production order.
The short answer
Answer: Pick the base whose page names your family, screen clarity at three loads, test three reed counts in your production bottle, measure thirty days, cost it, make a recorded first run, then buy in real packs.
Why: CSI publishes no composition, evaporation or longevity data for its bases or oils, so each stage's test supplies the evidence the next stage's spend depends on.
Method: Six clarity vials; nine 120 ml bottles at 6/8/10 reeds; 30 days of weighing and blind scoring; 60-bottle run in sub-batches with a batch record and retained bottles.

Straight answer
What is the complete process for making 100 ml reed diffusers in India, from selecting a base and fragrance oil to testing reeds and buying raw materials in bulk?
Eight stages, each with a gate: choose, screen clarity, test reeds, measure thirty days, cost and price, make a first run, buy in bulk, release and repeat. Choose the base whose CSI page names your family — Lift Base for florals like Jasmine — with Pure Performance Base as the control. Weigh everything: a 100 ml fill is 100 g at an example 1.00 g/ml, so 20% is 20 g of oil and 80 g of base. Screen 15%, 20% and 25% for clarity through a cool night (₹2,480.00); test 6, 8 and 10 black fibre reeds in your real 120 ml bottle (₹3,821.00); measure weight loss and blind room scores for thirty days; cost the bottle; then make a recorded first run of 60 (₹27,473.00). Bulk means 500 ml multiples of base — CSI lists no 1 kg, 5 kg or 25 kg base — and 500 g or 1 kg of oil, where per-gram breaks are rare. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp.
One line: eight stages, three small purchases of evidence, then one purchase of stock — in real packs.
The complete process has eight stages and three purchases. Screen clarity first (₹2,480.00), test reeds second (₹3,821.00), then make a first production run of 60 × 100 ml (₹27,473.00). The worked example uses Jasmine at 20% in Lift Base, 120 ml Gold Reed Diffuser Bottles and black fibre reeds.

The whole process on one page

Making a reed diffuser is easy. Making the same good reed diffuser a hundred times, at a price that works, is a process — and every stage has a test that tells you whether to move on.

This page is the capstone of the first section of the series, "How to make a reed diffuser that actually works". The nineteen posts before it each answer one question in depth — which raw materials to buy, how to mix, how to stop cloudiness, how to make it last, how to scale to fifty gifts. Here they are joined into one path from an idea to bulk buying, with the gate at each stage that decides whether to spend on the next. Every number is worked for one example so you can see the whole chain: a 100 ml finished diffuser in CSI's 120 ml Gold bottle, Jasmine at 20% in Lift Base (whose page names jasmine), black fibre reeds.

The straight answer: choose the base by the family its page names, screen your oil's clarity at three loads, test three reed counts in your real bottle, measure thirty days of weight loss and blind room scores, cost the bottle, make a first run in recorded sub-batches, and only then buy in bulk — in 500 ml multiples of base and 500 g or 1 kg packs of oil. At an example density of 1.00 g per ml, a 100 ml fill weighs 100 g: 20 g of oil and 80 g of base. If your blend is 5% lighter or heavier the same 100 ml is 95 g to 105 g, which is why every stage weighs rather than measures. The three purchases total ₹33,774.00 before tools, and the first two cost less than one production pack of oil.

1 · Choose Pick a family; read which CSI base page names it; buy the oil in its smallest size A written formula hypothesis: oil, base, target load 7901, 7921, 7905
2 · Screen clarity Three loads in two bases, white and black cards, 48 h, 7 days, cool night A load that stays clear, with one step of margin 7913, 7910, 7906
3 · Test reeds Three reed counts × three bottles at the chosen load, in your real bottle A reed count that hits your room target without draining fast 7917, 7971
4 · Measure 30 days Weigh, score blind, photograph reeds, log room temperature A measured liquid life and scent life 7911, 7979

8 · Release and repeat Triangle test each batch against the retained bottle No drift between batches 7919, 7997
The CSI principle
Each stage buys the evidence the next stage needs. Spend on stage six only when stages two to five have said yes.
The early stages are cheap and fast; the late ones are where the money goes. A failed clarity screen costs a few hundred rupees; a failed production run costs thousands.

Stage 1: choosing the base and the fragrance oil

CSI lists five in-stock reed and car diffuser bases, and their pages differ mainly in the families they name. Lift Base ("perfumery-grade") names floral, citrus, green and fruity, including jasmine. Softness Base names soft florals including jasmine too, plus powdery and light gourmand. Longevity Base names amber, woody and resinous and describes slower "cold diffusion". Depth Base names leather, smoky and rich gourmand. Pure Performance Base is neutral, for all families, and is the only base also sold in 100 g. All give 10–30%, and Pure Performance recommends 20%. CSI HyperDiffusion Base™ is out of stock and not offered. No CSI base page publishes its composition, density, viscosity or evaporation rate, and none of these bases is described by CSI as DPG, Augeo-type or alcohol-based.

That gives a simple rule for stage one: use the base whose page names your fragrance family as the candidate, and Pure Performance as the control. The fragrance oil is bought in its smallest in-stock size — 15 g where listed — because stages two and three use only grams. If you are weighing a ready-made base against making your own from solvents, the ready-made or own-solvents post and the comparison of Augeo-type, DPG and alcohol formulas cover it; if you want a formula with no alcohol, the 100 ml method without alcohol is the starting recipe, and the water-free base post explains why diffuser bases avoid water.

Control base Pure Performance Base Neutral, all families ₹325.00 / 100 g

Bottle and reeds 120 ml Gold bottle, 100 ml fill; black fibre reeds Your product ₹1,062.00 / 10 · ₹236.00 / 25
Check the IFRA certificate at stage one, not stage seven
The base pages allow up to 30%, but each fragrance oil's IFRA certificate sets its own maximum for Category 10A, where reed diffusers sit in current IFRA amendments as commonly summarised by suppliers. The lower of the two is your ceiling. CSI publishes no IFRA percentage on its oil pages — ask on WhatsApp for the certificate before you screen loads, so you never test or sell a load the certificate does not allow. Same oil for candles and diffusers? covers why a candle-approved load does not carry across.

Stage 2: screening clarity

A diffuser that clouds is a failed product however it smells, so the first spend is a clarity screen. Mix 30 g vials of the oil at 15%, 20% and 25% in each base — six vials in clear 50 ml Gold bottles — and check each against a white and a black card at mixing, 24 h, 48 h (the base pages' rest), 7 days and after a cool night. The working load is one step below the highest load that stayed clear through every checkpoint. Weigh base first, then oil, and mix the same way every time; the mixing method covers technique and the 20% / 80% compatibility check the reading.

Stage 2 · 6 vials · CSI live pricing, pulled 14 October 2026 · oil CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 14 October 2026
Clarity screen kit
Item Need Buy Price
Gold Reed Diffuser Bottle 50 ml (as vials) 6 1 × pack of 10 ₹826.00
Jasmine 37.8 g 1 × 50 g ₹230.00
Lift Base 75.6 g 1 × 500 ml ₹1,099.00
Pure Performance Base 75.6 g 1 × 100 g ₹325.00
Stage 2 total ₹2,480.00

Most of the Lift bottle and four of the 50 ml bottles are left after the screen, and they carry straight into stage three. If both bases hold the same top load, you already know the base adds nothing measurable for clarity with this oil; if one holds a higher load clear, that is your production base. Preventing cloudiness runs the full five-rung ladder if you want to probe the limit precisely.

Stage 3: testing reeds in your real bottle

The reed count is the cheapest lever in a reed diffuser and the one makers most often guess.

With a clear load chosen — 20% in Lift in this example — make nine 120 ml bottles filled to 100 g and test three reed counts: six, eight and ten, three bottles each. CSI's fibre reed page suggests 6–8 for a standard 50–100 ml bottle, more for stronger and faster diffusion, fewer for subtler and longer-lasting; ten tests the top end for a 100 ml fill. Reed diameter is not published, so a count that works for these reeds is specific to them. Weigh every bottle with its reeds, flip once at the first hour, then once a week on a fixed day, and score the room blind against a target you write before you start.

Stage 3 · 9 × 120 ml at 100 g · 20% in Lift · leftover Lift from stage 2 used first · CSI live pricing, pulled 14 October 2026
Reed test kit
Item Need Buy Price
Gold Reed Diffuser Bottle 120 ml 9 1 × pack of 10 ₹1,062.00
Fiber Diffuser Reeds (Black) 76 (6+8+10 × 3, + 4 spare) 1 × pack of 100 ₹800.00
Jasmine 189.0 g 2 × 100 g ₹860.00
Lift Base (top-up after stage 2) 756.0 g 1 × 500 ml ₹1,099.00
Stage 3 total ₹3,821.00
Weighing scale + 250 ml beaker (if you have none) 1 each 1 each ₹954.00

Read the reed test as two numbers per arm: the room score against your target, and grams per day. The right reed count is the lowest one that meets the target, because extra reeds empty the bottle faster. If your product is sold for several rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms and living rooms shows how one liquid can carry different reed counts, and a small Indian apartment covers the risk of over-scenting small spaces. A 120 ml bedroom diffuser applies the same test to one room.

The common mistake: testing reeds in a different bottle from the one you sell. Makers test in a jam jar or a sample vial and then fill the production bottle. Neck width, shoulder and fill height change how the reeds sit and how much reed is exposed, and CSI does not publish the Gold bottle's neck size or fill line. Fix: stage three always uses the production bottle at the production fill weight.

Stage 4: thirty days of measurement

Keep the stage-three bottles running for thirty days. Weigh weekly, score the room blind weekly, photograph two reeds per bottle against a white card, and note room temperature. Two lifetimes come out of it: liquid life — usable grams divided by grams lost per day — and scent life — the days the room score stays above your threshold. As an example of the arithmetic only: a bottle losing an example 2.0 g a day with an example 8 g of residue the reeds cannot draw has a liquid life of (100 g − 8 g) ÷ 2.0 = 46 days. Your bottles will give their own figure, and CSI publishes no evaporation or longevity data for any base, oil or reed.

30-day log · one row per reed arm · averages of three bottles · house scale and threshold are YOURS
What stage 4 must produce
Reed arm g/day wk 1 g/day wk 4 Score wk 1 Score wk 4 Projected liquid life Scent life Reed colour wk 4 Room temp range
6 reeds ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
8 reeds ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
10 reeds ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___

Thirty days is a working checkpoint, not a full life; it is enough to rank arms and project life, and you keep one bottle per arm running to the end to measure residue. The living-room longevity method explains fade versus consumption, the 30-day test gives a fuller sheet, the hotel-inspired consistency test adds a week-to-week steadiness rule, and the premium finish post measures residue and rings at the end.

Stage 5: cost per bottle, price and margin

With the formula fixed, the cost is arithmetic. At the 1 kg Jasmine rate (₹3.92 a gram) and Lift at ₹1,099.00 per 500 ml, the 100 g of liquid costs ₹254.30 at the example 1.00 g/ml — ₹263.55 if the blend is 5% lighter, ₹245.93 if 5% heavier. Bought at the 100 g rate the same liquid is ₹261.84; Jasmine is one of the oils whose 1 kg pack is genuinely cheaper per gram, by 8.8%. Most oils on CSI's listed catalogue are not: above 100 g they are priced almost linearly, so bigger packs buy convenience and one lot, not a lower rate.

Bottle cost and margin (example)
Line Per bottle Note
Liquid: 20 g Jasmine + 80 g Lift ₹254.30 1 kg oil rate, 500 ml base, example 1.00 g/ml
120 ml Gold bottle ₹106.20 pack of 10
8 black fibre reeds ₹64.00 ₹8.00 each from 50 up
CSI materials ₹424.50
Label (example) ₹8.00 replace with your printer's quote
Box (example) ₹45.00 replace with your supplier's quote
Cost before labour, freight, GST ₹477.50

Markup on cost 67.3% (price − cost) ÷ cost
Liquid cost per day at an example 2.0 g/day ₹5.53 over 46 example days

Margin and markup answer different questions; quote both to yourself and know which a buyer means. The cost per day of use is the number to compare when someone suggests a cheaper base or a lower load — comparing loads by cost per day and the full 100 ml cost go deeper, and the ₹799 margin post works backwards from a target margin.

A reed diffuser business is three small purchases of evidence followed by one large purchase of stock — never the other way round.
— CandleMakingSuppliesIndia

Stage 6: the first production run of 60

60 bottles at 100 g is 6,000 g of blend: 1,200 g of oil and 4,800 g of base, or 1,236.0 g and 4,944.0 g with a 3% cling allowance — a labelled working assumption you replace after your first batch. The base is sold by volume, so density decides the bottle count: 10 × 500 ml at the example 1.00 g/ml, 11 at 0.95 g/ml, 10 at 1.05 g/ml. Order for the lighter case unless you have weighed 100 ml of your blend at stage two — which settles it.

4

5
Keep retained bottlesOne capped, reedless bottle per sub-batch, labelled and stored cool and dark — your reference for stage eight.

Reeds are the one item where a large pack does not save money: the 500-pack is ₹8.00 a reed, the same as the 50-pack. Here it is still the cheapest way to cover the need. The 50-bottle corporate method adds a client-approval pilot and a full batch record; the 10-bottle quantity post is the smaller version of this order.

Stage 7: buying raw materials in bulk

"Bulk" for a reed diffuser maker means different things for each material, and it is worth being exact. CSI lists its diffuser bases only as 500 ml (and Pure Performance also as 100 g). There is no 1 kg, 5 kg or 25 kg base listing; a larger quantity is several 500 ml bottles or a quote on WhatsApp, and no volume discount is published. Fragrance oils go up to 500 g and 1 kg per listing for most oils, but per-gram savings are rare: of 91 oils listing both 100 g and 1 kg, only 24 show a saving of 5% or more, and Jasmine's 8.8% is one of them. Reeds stop getting cheaper at 50. Bottles come in tens at the same price per bottle.

What bulk means per material on CSI's listed catalogue · CSI live pricing, pulled 14 October 2026 · oils CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 14 October 2026
Where a bigger pack saves money, and where it does not
Material Largest listed pack Per-unit step What to do
Diffuser base 500 ml (Pure Performance also 100 g) None between 500 ml bottles Buy n × 500 ml; ask on WhatsApp for larger quantities — no published discount
Jasmine oil 1 kg ₹4.30/g at 100 g → ₹3.92 at 500 g → ₹3.92 at 1 kg A real break — 1 kg once the formula is fixed
Most other oils 500 g or 1 kg Usually within about 1% from 100 g up Buy for convenience and one lot, not price
Black fibre reeds 500 ₹9.44 each at 25 → ₹8.00 from 50; none after Packs of 50 or 100 are as cheap as 500
White fibre reeds 500 ₹10.60 each at 25 → ₹9.00 from 50; none after Same: 50 is the break
Gold bottles Pack of 10 Same per bottle at any quantity Buy in tens to your run size

The honest rule for stage seven is that sales, not price breaks, decide bulk quantities. Hold enough for your next run plus a buffer you choose, reorder from sales records, and ask on WhatsApp before planning around larger base quantities. 1 kg, 5 kg or 25 kg of base? translates those reader quantities into 500 ml bottles, monthly wholesale requirements sets reorder levels from expected sales and your own lead times, and starting a profitable reed diffuser business is the series capstone for the business as a whole.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The biggest order a new maker can place with us is a stack of base, a kilo of every oil and a 500-pack of reeds before stage two. Do not. Stages two and three together cost ₹6,301.00; the production order ₹27,473.00. If stage two shows your oil clouds at 15%, the production order would have been the wrong formula. And because most of our oils are not cheaper per gram at 1 kg, buying early rarely saves anything.
Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, and the November–February wedding season follows. Stages two and three fit before Diwali; stage four's thirty days do not. If you sell for Diwali, sell from the stage-three arm whose first two weeks look best, label batches, and finish stage four for the wedding season. Send us your fragrance, bottle and run size on WhatsApp and we will check stock and help size each stage; listed packs only, larger quantities by quote, no published volume discount.
Plan my diffuser stages

Stage 8: release, records and repeat

Every later batch repeats stage six and passes stage eight before it ships: fill weights within tolerance, a card check, and a blind triangle test against the retained bottle of the approved batch. CSI publishes no lot numbers or lot-to-lot data, so your retained bottles and order dates are the record. A new oil, a new base or a new bottle is a change — re-run the stage it affects rather than assuming the old result holds. The premium finish post details the release checklist, and the quality-control checklist extends it to leakage, stability and packaging.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished diffusers. The largest sale to a new diffuser maker is a bulk order before any test. This page puts two small test purchases before production, tells you that most of our oils are not cheaper per gram at 1 kg, that our bases are listed only in 500 ml with no published volume discount, and that we publish no composition, evaporation or longevity data for any base, oil or reed.

Diffuser bases, fibre reeds, Gold Reed Diffuser Bottles, beakers, scale, mixer and essential oils are CSI live pricing, pulled 14 October 2026. Fragrance-oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 14 October 2026; out-of-stock sizes are marked and never offered. Every gram split, millilitre conversion, per-bottle cost and kit total on this page is computed and shown to two decimals so you can check it.

Bottle counts per arm, checkpoints, room protocols, scoring scales, example densities, example fill volumes and example evaporation rates are labelled working practices or placeholders, not industry standards or CSI measurements. The 100 ml fill, the 3% and 5% allowances, the 60-bottle run, the 2.0 g/day loss rate, the 8 g residue, the label, box and ₹799.00 price, and the stage timings are labelled examples you replace. Frequently asked questions

How do you make a reed diffuser step by step?
Weigh the base, add the fragrance oil (for example 20% of the total by weight), stir, rest 24–48 hours, check it is clear against white and black cards, fill the bottle by weight and add fibre reeds, flipping them after the first hour.
How much fragrance oil for a 100 ml reed diffuser?
CSI's base pages give 10–30% of the total blend, with 20% recommended. At 20% by weight a 100 ml fill at an example 1.00 g/ml is 20 g of oil and 80 g of base — within the oil's IFRA Category 10A limit.
Where can I buy reed diffuser base in bulk in India?
CSI lists five in-stock reed and car diffuser bases in 500 ml (Pure Performance also in 100 g). There is no 1 kg, 5 kg or 25 kg listing; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp with no published discount.
How many reeds should a 100 ml reed diffuser have?
CSI's reed page suggests 6–8 for a 50–100 ml bottle. Test 6, 8 and 10 in your own bottle and room, and choose the lowest count that meets your strength target.
How much does it cost to make a 100 ml reed diffuser in India?
In the worked example — Jasmine at 20% in Lift Base, a 120 ml Gold bottle and 8 black reeds — about ₹424.50 in CSI materials at production rates, before labels, box, labour, freight and GST.
How long should I test a reed diffuser before selling?
At least a 48-hour clarity check and a cool-night check, then about thirty days of weighing and blind room scoring to see liquid life and scent life. Keep one bottle running to the end to see residue.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. The eight-stage process, gates and decision rule apply to any reed diffuser made with any supplier's materials; the products named are CSI's.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Candle Wicking Needle and Bamboo Wick Holder. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

Non-price figures and assumptions: Load convention: fragrance load is a share of the total blend, by weight (oil g = batch g × L; base g = batch g × (1 − L)). Millilitre-to-gram conversions use a labelled example density of 1.00 g per ml with a ±5% sensitivity (0.95–1.05 g per ml); no density is published for any CSI base or oil, so weigh 100 ml of your own blend. Worked example: 120 ml Gold bottle filled to an example 100 ml = 100 g at 1.00 g/ml (95 g–105 g at ±5%); 20% = 20 g oil + 80 g base. Stage 2: 30 g vials at 15/20/25% in Lift and Pure Performance. Stage 3: 9 × 120 ml at 6/8/10 reeds, 3 per arm, leftover Lift used first. Stage 6: 60 × 120 ml, 8 reeds each, 3% cling allowance, base bottles ordered for 0.95 g/ml. Working practices: 5% test allowance, 30-day checkpoint. Labelled examples: 2.0 g/day loss, 8 g residue, label ₹8.00, box ₹45.00, price ₹799.00. CSI publishes no composition, density, viscosity, evaporation rate, flash point or shelf life for any diffuser base, no reed diameter, no bottle neck size or fill line, no diffuser throw, evaporation or longevity data for any base, oil or reed, and no IFRA percentage for any oil. Base-page statements are quoted as claims to test, not as CSI test results; the five bases are distinguished only by what their pages say they are for. Reed diffusers are listed under IFRA Category 10A in current IFRA amendments as commonly summarised in suppliers' IFRA guides — ask CSI on WhatsApp for each oil's IFRA certificate and use the lower of the base page's 30% maximum and the certificate's Category 10A limit. Material costs exclude labour, labels, boxes, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November.
