A gift candle is chosen by one person and burned by another. That changes how you pick the oil: the right scent is the one the recipient is least likely to dislike, in a format that suits the occasion and a cost your gift price can carry. This page sorts CSI's oils by recipient and by format, and prices every combination per piece.
₹20.88
of Lavender fragrance inside one 50 g velvet heart jar at an 8% load (4 g oil) at the 1 kg rate · ₹83.54 in a 200 g jar · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What are the best fragrance oils for gift candles? The ones the recipient is least likely to dislike. For a gift where you do not know their taste, start with a soft vanilla or a clean fresh profile; for a family or home gift, a rose, jasmine or gardenia; for men and colleagues, woods and oud. Four oils near the top of CSI's best-selling sort cover most of that: Lavender, Japanese Cherry Blossom, Woody Oud and Dark Vanilla.

Which gift format should I use? It depends on the occasion and the budget per piece. Before any oil, a 50 g velvet heart costs ₹78.45 in wax, wick and jar, an 85 g tin ₹82.74, a votive ₹76.34 and a 200 g White Matte jar ₹186.92. See the format table.

How much does the fragrance cost per gift candle? At 8%, a 50 g heart holds 4 g of oil and a 200 g jar 16 g. At 1 kg rates that is ₹18.12 to ₹30.58 per heart and ₹72.50 to ₹122.34 per jar for the four oils on this page. Full grid in cost per piece.

Does CSI sell a gift-candle fragrance set? No. CSI sells oils by weight, from 15 g to 1 kg, and does not list a fragrance sample pack or gift set. Build your own shortlist from 15 g testers: the four on this page cost ₹432.24 together. We can help you assemble one on WhatsApp.
The short answer
By recipient: Unknown taste → soft vanilla or clean fresh · family → rose, jasmine, gardenia · self-care → lavender, herbal · men → woods, oud · young → blossom, fruit · luxury → dark vanilla, oud.
By format: Before oil: 50 g heart ₹78.45 · votive (70 g) ₹76.34 · 85 g tin ₹82.74 · Salsa (160 g) ₹123.57 · 200 g jar ₹186.92. Oil at 8% is added on top.
Throw: We have not published throw measurements for any oil. Every pick here is a candidate worth testing, chosen for recipient fit, price tier and position in the best-selling sort.

Gift candles — pick the recipient first, then the format, then the oil Recipient → family 200 g jar ₹186.92 before oil 50 g velvet heart ₹78.45 before oil 85 g tin ₹82.74 before oil Votive (70 g) ₹76.34 before oil Salsa 200 ml ₹123.57 before oil Taste unknown Soft vanilla · clean fresh Family / home Rose · jasmine · gardenia Self-care Lavender · herbal Men · colleagues Woods · oud · cedar Young · trend Blossom · fruit Luxury Dark vanilla · oud Filled large dot = natural fit · open dots = workable · small = rarely the right pairing. Reasoning, not sales data.
Rows are recipient types, columns are CSI's gift containers with their wax, wick and container cost at an 8% load before any fragrance. The dots are editorial reasoning about fit (a luxury gift rarely suits a 50 g heart; a trend gift suits it well), not sales data. Pick the row, then the column, then test two or three oils from the family in that row.
Straight answer
What are the best fragrance oils for gift candles, and how should I choose them?
Choose in three steps: recipient, format, then oil. A gift candle is burned by someone who did not pick the scent, so the best oil is the one least likely to be disliked by that person, not the most unusual one in the catalogue. For an unknown taste, test a soft vanilla such as Dark Vanilla or a clean profile; for a family or home gift, a floral; for men and colleagues, a wood such as Woody Oud; for younger recipients, a blossom like Japanese Cherry Blossom; for wellness gifts, Lavender, which sits first in CSI's best-selling sort. Then match the format. A 50 g velvet heart costs ₹78.45 before oil and holds 4 g of fragrance at 8%. An 85 g tin costs ₹82.74 and holds 6.8 g. A 200 g jar costs ₹186.92 and holds 16 g. At 1 kg rates, these four oils put between ₹18.12 and ₹122.34 of fragrance into a piece. We have not published throw measurements, so treat every oil here as a candidate to test in your wax and your container before you commit a gifting order. For festive and bulk runs, the Diwali production guide and 500-piece split maths take it from here.
One line: decide who opens the box and which container it comes in; the oil is the third decision, not the first.
Four 15 g testers cover the four gift directions on this page: Lavender ₹105.02, Japanese Cherry Blossom ₹104.00, Woody Oud ₹93.22 and Dark Vanilla ₹130.00. That is ₹432.24 for 60 g — at 8%, enough for three 50 g velvet hearts (12 g) per oil with 3 g spare, or one 85 g tin and one heart each.
Shop fragrance oils

Start with the recipient

A candle you make for yourself only has to please you. A gift candle has to please someone who never smelled the tester.

That single fact removes most of the catalogue from a gifting shortlist. Polarising profiles — heavy smoke, sharp medicinal mint, very sweet candy, strong patchouli — can be excellent candles and still poor gifts, because the person opening the box did not choose them. Gift buyers in India also give across ages and households: the same box may go to a grandmother, a manager and a college friend. So the first question is not "which oil is best?" but "how much do I know about the person receiving this?" The less you know, the softer and more familiar the scent should be.

The table below groups CSI's in-stock oils by the recipient they are most often chosen for, with the per-gram price at 100 g so you can see the cost of each direction. The groupings are reasoning about scent families and gifting occasions, not sales data. CSI publishes a best-selling sort order for the Fragrance Oils collection, and where an oil sits near the top of that sort we say so; we do not publish sales figures or throw measurements for any oil.

In-stock oils · per gram at 100 g · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026
Recipient type → scent family → oils worth testing first
Recipient Family that rarely offends Oils worth testing first (₹/g at 100 g) Why
Taste unknown (clients, neighbours, return gifts) Soft vanilla · clean fresh Dark Vanilla ₹7.90 · Vanilla Bean ₹7.90 · Blue Ocean ₹4.95 Familiar, warm or clean; few people actively dislike them
Family and home (elders, relatives, housewarming) Rose · jasmine · gardenia British Rose ₹3.42 · Jasmine ₹4.30 · Gardenia ₹4.33 Florals read as festive and traditional in Indian homes
Self-care and wellness Lavender · herbal · green Lavender ₹5.40 · Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹3.54 · Lemongrass and Lime ₹5.90 Associated with calm and freshness; suits spa-style boxes
Men, fathers, colleagues Woods · oud · cedar Woody Oud ₹4.53 · Sandalwood ₹5.03 · Sage and Cedarwood ₹6.96 Dry, understated; avoids sweet profiles some recipients reject
Young, trend-led, friends Blossom · fruit · playful Japanese Cherry Blossom ₹5.00 · Fresh Strawberries ₹3.78 · Peach Melon Berry ₹4.18 Bright and immediately likeable; suits small formats
Luxury gift, premium client Dark vanilla · oud · amber Dark Vanilla Oud ₹5.90 · White Royal Oud ₹8.10 · Bergamot Amber ₹5.60 Richer profiles that justify a heavier jar and a higher price

Two things follow from this table. First, none of the "safe" directions forces you into an expensive oil. British Rose at ₹3.42 a gram at 100 g and Woody Oud at ₹4.53 are among the lower-cost oils in the catalogue, and both suit gifting. Second, the luxury row is where cost climbs, and that is fine if the format and gift price climb with it. Putting White Royal Oud into a 50 g heart that sells as a ₹150 return gift is a costing mistake, not a scent choice. For the full premium end, see best fragrance oils for luxury candle making.

Two florals you cannot order this season
Mogra and Rajnigandha (Tuberose) are both out of stock in every size on the 24 September 2026 pull, so they are not on any shortlist on this page. If a client asks for a white-floral gift, test Jasmine, Gardenia or Raat Ki Rani (Night-Blooming Jasmine) instead, all in stock. We do not publish restock dates, so do not plan a gifting order around an oil you cannot buy today.

When you genuinely cannot guess — a mixed box for a whole office, or return gifts at a family function — the safest move is not a single "neutral" oil but two or three scents from different rows, so each recipient has a chance of getting one they like. How many scents a large order should carry, and how to split the quantity, is its own question: the 500-piece split and the 1,000-piece corporate split work through it with numbers.

Then the gift format

The container sets the budget before the fragrance does. Pick it second, and the oil choice gets easier.

CSI lists five containers that suit gifting. Two have a published fill weight: the Golden Aluminium Tin (85 g fill) and the Heart Cutout Velvet Jar (50 g wax capacity, red; the white version is out of stock). The White Matte Glass Jar is costed at this series' working fill of 200 g. The black votive jars and the 200 ml Salsa jar do not have a published fill weight, so the 70 g and 160 g figures below are illustrative — weigh one filled container of your own wax before costing a real order.

8% load · Luxury Soy Wax Chunks ₹599.00/kg · Eco Thin C1 wick ₹5.90 · container per-piece price at its listed pack
What each gift format costs before the fragrance
Format Fill Oil at 8% Wax Wax ₹ Container ₹ Base before oil
50 g velvet heart 50 g 4 g 46 g ₹27.55 ₹45.00 ₹78.45
votive (70 g) 70 g 5.6 g 64.4 g ₹38.58 ₹31.86 ₹76.34
85 g tin 85 g 6.8 g 78.2 g ₹46.84 ₹30.00 ₹82.74
200 ml Salsa (160 g) 160 g 12.8 g 147.2 g ₹88.17 ₹29.50 ₹123.57
200 g jar 200 g 16 g 184 g ₹110.22 ₹70.80 ₹186.92

The base cost runs from ₹76.34 for a votive to ₹186.92 for the 200 g jar, and the jar's own price is most of that gap: ₹70.80 against ₹30.00 for a tin or ₹29.50 for a Salsa jar bought in 50s. That is why the 200 g White Matte jar suits a gift priced as a proper candle, while the tin, votive and heart suit favours, return gifts and multi-piece boxes. The velvet heart is interesting: at ₹45.00 it is the dearest container per gram of wax, but it arrives looking like a gift, which can save you packaging cost that the tin would need. Wick size for each container is not something we publish; wick choice depends on diameter and wax, so run a burn test in each format before you pour a batch.

Format also changes the scent choice. Small formats burn for a short time in a small space and are often smelled cold, on opening the box, as much as lit. Bright and familiar profiles — blossom, fruit, lavender — tend to suit them. Big jars get burned over weeks in a living room, where a richer vanilla, wood or amber has time to settle. None of this is measured; it is how gift candles are generally used, and it is a sensible starting point for your own tests. For how small candles behave generally, see which fragrances work best in small candles.

The tin that looked cheap and was not. A plain 85 g tin costs ₹82.74 before oil, against ₹78.45 for the velvet heart. But the tin usually needs a sleeve, label or pouch to feel like a gift, and those costs are yours, not ours, and are not on this page. Add them before comparing. If the tin plus a ₹15 sleeve lands above the heart, the heart holds 35 g less wax but may be the better gift at the same money.

Cost per piece, oil by format

Here the four oils from the buy strip meet the five formats. Each figure is the full material cost per piece — oil, wax, wick and container — at an 8% load with the oil priced at its 1 kg rate, the rate a gifting run of a few hundred pieces is likely to buy at. Material cost excludes labour, packaging, freight and GST.

Material cost per piece · 8% load · oil at 1 kg rate · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026
Four oils × five gift formats
Oil (₹/g at 1 kg) 50 g heart Votive 70 g 85 g tin Salsa 160 g 200 g jar
Woody Oud (₹4.53) ₹96.58 ₹101.71 ₹113.55 ₹181.57 ₹259.42
Japanese Cherry Blossom (₹4.84) ₹97.82 ₹103.45 ₹115.67 ₹185.55 ₹264.39
Lavender (₹5.22) ₹99.34 ₹105.57 ₹118.24 ₹190.40 ₹270.45
Dark Vanilla (₹7.65) ₹109.04 ₹119.15 ₹134.73 ₹221.44 ₹309.25

Read across a row and the container does the work: Woody Oud goes from ₹96.58 in a heart to ₹259.42 in a jar. Read down a column and the oil does the work, but less than most makers expect in small formats. In the 50 g heart the gap between Woody Oud and Dark Vanilla is only ₹12.46 a piece, because only 4 g of oil is involved. In the 200 g jar the same two oils are ₹49.84 apart. The smaller the gift, the less the oil's price matters — so small favours can carry a premium scent that a large jar could not.

Same oils · 100 g rate instead of 1 kg · 85 g tin and 200 g jar
If you buy 100 g bottles instead of kilos
Oil ₹/g at 100 g Oil in 85 g tin Tin total Oil in 200 g jar Jar total
Woody Oud ₹4.53 ₹30.81 ₹113.55 ₹72.50 ₹259.42
Japanese Cherry Blossom ₹5.00 ₹34.00 ₹116.74 ₹80.00 ₹266.92
Lavender ₹5.40 ₹36.72 ₹119.46 ₹86.40 ₹273.32
Dark Vanilla ₹7.90 ₹53.72 ₹136.46 ₹126.40 ₹313.32

Compare the two tables and the 100 g route costs very little more. Lavender is ₹5.40 a gram at 100 g against ₹5.22 at 1 kg; Woody Oud is ₹4.53 at both. On CSI's listed prices, per-gram price breaks above 100 g are rare: for 52 of the 91 oils listing both sizes, the kilo is within 1% of the 100 g per gram. A few oils do break — British Rose is 10.3% cheaper per gram at 1 kg and Jasmine 8.8% — but for most gift oils, buying bigger buys stock security, not a lower rate. Wholesale for bulk gifting orders covers what happens beyond the listed packs.

Choosing and testing the shortlist

A gifting shortlist should be short: two to four oils, each from a different recipient row, each tested in the format you will actually ship. The walkthrough below is the order that keeps money out of oils you will not use.

1
Write down who receives the gift and in what settingOffice Diwali box, wedding return gift, client thank-you, personal gift to one friend. Each points to a different row of the recipient table and a different format. A corporate box leans to woods and fresh; a wedding favour to florals in a small format (see wedding favour candles).
2
Pick the format and cost its baseUse the format table above. If your gift price is ₹199 and the tin costs ₹82.74 before oil and packaging, you know how much room is left for fragrance and margin before you smell anything.
3
Shortlist two or three oils from the matching rowsBuy each as a 15 g tester where one is listed (51 oils offer one). Where an oil starts at 50 g or 100 g, as Sage and Cedarwood (50 g) and Smoked Rose Royale (100 g) do, that is its tester size. CSI does not sell a fragrance sample set; you assemble your own.
4
Pour test pieces in the real containerAt 8%, 15 g of oil makes three 50 g hearts (4 g each) or two 85 g tins (6.8 g each). Use the wax you will produce with. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10%; those are the wax makers' stated maximums, not targets.
5
Cure, then smell cold and burnGift candles are judged cold, on opening, and then lit. Smell each piece after curing and again while burning. We work on a cure of about ten days to two weeks for soy as a planning assumption; your wax and oil may differ. Score each oil on the sheet in Which Fragrances Should I Choose for a 500-Piece Candle Gift Order? if you are choosing for a multi-scent order.
6
Cost the winners per piece and orderRun the survivors through the cost table. Anything that breaks your gift price drops out now. Then order production quantities — the bulk quantity guide shows how many grams a given count needs with a wastage allowance.
The CSI principle
The best gift scent is the one the recipient would not have to be talked into.
A candle maker's favourite oil and a gift recipient's comfortable oil are often different things. Choose for the person opening the box, test in the container you will ship, and cost it per piece. The unusual oils belong in your own range, where buyers choose them.

The four oils below are the shortlist this page is built on. Each sits in a different recipient row, each is in stock in every listed size, and each is near the top of CSI's best-selling sort on the pull date. The last column of each table shows how many 50 g velvet hearts (4 g of oil each at 8%) one pack scents.

Lavender is the first oil in the Fragrance Oils collection's best-selling sort on the pull date and the safest single choice for wellness and spa-style gifts. 50 g and 100 g are both ₹5.40 a gram and the kilo is ₹5.22, so the 100 g is a sensible production size for a gifting run under 25 jars.

The rest of the gift bill: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks cost ₹299.00 for 500 g, ₹599.00 for 1 kg and ₹2,995.00 for 5 kg (up to 13% fragrance). Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹507.40 a kilo at 1, 5 and 10 kg (up to 10%). Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 are ₹5.90 each at every pack. More in Containers.

A priced starter gift range

Here is a small, complete gift range you could pour from one order: 24 tins, 20 velvet hearts and 8 White Matte jars (52 pieces), split across the four shortlist oils, with two extra jars for test burns. At 8% the pieces need 371.2 g of oil, or 389.8 g with a 5% allowance for pour loss and test burns — a working assumption, not a measured figure. Four 100 g bottles (400 g) cover it. Wax needed is 4,268.8 g, or 4,482.2 g with the same 5%, so one 5 kg bag of Chunks covers it with room for tests.

That is ₹156.93 per piece on average across the 52 poured pieces, before your labour, packaging and freight, and it still leaves two jars, eight wicks, a small wax surplus and some oil for tests. The oil is ₹2,283.12 of the order, an average of ₹5.71 a gram across the four bottles. Buying the same four oils as 1 kg packs would lower that very little — and would leave you with 3,610 g of oil this run does not need. If you already own a scale and thermometer, this list is complete; if not, add the weighing scale (₹354.00) and pen thermometer (₹354.00).

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026 — 44 days from 25 September — and the November–February wedding season follows it. Where gift makers overspend

Gift candles lose money in three places: the wrong container, too many scents and oil bought in the wrong size.
Argued against our own interest, plainly. We sell 1 kg packs, and it would suit us to tell you a gifting run needs them. For most gift oils it does not. Woody Oud costs ₹4.53 a gram at 100 g and at 1 kg; Lavender is ₹5.40 against ₹5.22. A 52-piece range needs under 400 g of oil in total. Buy 100 g of each tested oil, and move to the kilo only for the scent that reorders — or for the handful of oils with a real kilo saving, such as British Rose (10.3%) and Jasmine (8.8%).
Six scents for sixty gifts. Every extra scent adds a tester, a test pour, a label variant and a leftover part-bottle. On a small run, three scents from three different recipient rows give the same "something for everyone" effect with half the leftovers. The 500-piece guide shows how the leftover grows with each scent you add.

The third overspend is loading higher than the wax needs to make the gift "stronger". At 10% a 200 g jar of Dark Vanilla carries 20 g of oil and costs ₹337.44 against ₹309.25 at 8%. If a gift candle seems weak, check the wick and the cure first; a melt pool that never reaches the edge releases less scent at any load. And never go past the wax maker's stated maximum — 13% for Chunks, 10% for CSI 464. For how load, cure and wick drive scent, see strong fragrance oils for scented jar candles.

The last mistake is timing. Gifting is seasonal, and the season arrives for everyone at once. A maker who tests in October for a Diwali run on 8 November has no room to change an oil that disappoints. Diwali gift candle production sets out a dated back-schedule from today, and how much oil to buy for Diwali turns that schedule into an order. For corporate gift boxes, which usually come with a paperwork request, see fragrance oils for corporate gift candles; for sourcing the whole order from one place, where to buy in bulk.

Choose the scent for the person opening the box. Your favourite oil can wait for your own shelf.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a gifting page, the convenient advice would be to steer you to premium oils and kilo packs. The costings here show that small gifts can carry a premium oil cheaply, that most gift oils cost the same per gram at 100 g as at 1 kg, and that three scents usually beat six — so that is what the page says.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026; the container, wick-sticker and small-format figures come from the same catalogue pull (24–25 September 2026), and the White Matte Glass Jar, scale and thermometer are the figures verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Out-of-stock oils — including Mogra and Rajnigandha — are named as unavailable, not offered. Per-piece figures are plain arithmetic, shown to two decimals so you can check them.

The recipient groupings, the format-fit dots, the 8% load, the 5% wastage allowance, the cure period and the illustrative 70 g votive and 160 g Salsa fills are working assumptions for planning, not measurements. We have not published throw measurements for any oil. For a gifting quote, GST invoicing, MSDS and IFRA documents, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Which fragrance is best for gift candles in India?
There is no single best, because the recipient did not choose it. Safe starting points are a soft vanilla or clean fresh scent when you do not know their taste, florals such as British Rose, Jasmine or Gardenia for family gifts, woods such as Woody Oud or Sandalwood for men and colleagues, and Lavender for wellness boxes. Test two or three in your own wax and container.
How much fragrance oil goes into a 50 g gift candle?
At an 8% load, 4 g of oil and 46 g of wax. The 50 g Heart Cutout Velvet Jar holds 50 g of wax, so that is its full fill. At 1 kg rates the oil costs ₹18.12 (Woody Oud) to ₹30.58 (Dark Vanilla) per heart.
What is the cheapest container for gift candles?
Per piece, the 200 ml Salsa jar at ₹29.50 (in 50s or 100s) and the 85 g Golden Aluminium Tin at ₹30.00 (12 for ₹360.00). The black votive is ₹31.86 in packs of 5 or 10, the velvet heart ₹45.00 and the White Matte jar ₹70.80. The heart and White Matte jar need less extra packaging to look like a gift.
Should I use one fragrance or several for gift candles?
For a personal gift, one chosen for the person. For a mixed box or a large order where you do not know every recipient, two or three scents from different families spread the risk. More than that multiplies testers, labels and leftovers. Which Fragrances Should I Choose for a 500-Piece Candle Gift Order? works through the split maths.
Does CSI sell a gift candle fragrance kit or sample set?
No. CSI sells fragrance oils by weight from 15 g to 1 kg and does not list a fragrance sample pack or gift set. The candle-making kits in the catalogue exist, but their fragrance contents are not published here. Build your own shortlist from 15 g testers — the four on this page cost ₹432.24 — and ask on WhatsApp if you want help choosing.
What fragrance load should I use for gift candles?
We use 8% as the working load for costing. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10% by the wax makers; for other waxes, check the product page or ask us. More oil than the wick can burn does not make a stronger gift; test at 6%, 8% and 10% within your wax's ceiling.
Recipient, format, oil — in that order
Choose for the person opening the box, cost it per piece, and buy 100 g of each tested oil before any kilo.
Fragrance oils from ₹68.44 for 15 g, 85 g tins at ₹360.00 for 12, 50 g velvet hearts at ₹45.00, Salsa jars at ₹29.50 each in 50s, and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks from ₹299.00. Send us your recipients, formats and quantities and we will quote the order with GST invoice, MSDS and IFRA documents.

Fills: 50 g heart and 85 g tin are listed fills; 200 g jar is this series' working fill; 70 g votive and 160 g Salsa are illustrative. Figures exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST.
