What do you need to buy for votive candle making, and what does it cost?
Four things per votive: fragrance oil, wax, a wick and a container — and unlike tealights, CSI lists all four. The containers are Votive Glass Jars – Black (₹31.86 each by 10), Mini Glass Jars (down to ₹21.24 each by 100), the Heart Cutout Velvet Jar (₹45.00, published 50 g wax capacity) and the Golden Aluminium Tin (12 for ₹360.00, published 85 g fill). At 8%, a 50 g votive takes 4.00 g of oil, so a 50 g bottle scents 12.5 and a 100 g scents 25. Priced as complete orders with a 5% allowance, oil, wax, wick and jar come to ₹76.51 a votive for 100 black mini jars with Gardenia, ₹127.43 for 12 golden tins with Woody Oud and ₹104.80 for 10 Velvet hearts with Orchard Pear. With a votive, the jar is not packaging. It is one of the two biggest costs in the candle.

CSI's catalogue on the pull date lists four containers that suit a votive-sized candle. Two publish their fill — the Velvet heart jar's 50 g wax capacity and the golden tin's 85 g fill weight — and two do not. The table sets out every listed pack, the per-jar price at each and what is in or out of stock.

Three things to notice. The black mini jars are the only container with a real volume break: ₹25.96 a jar in fives, ₹21.24 in hundreds, 18.2% less. The Velvet heart jar is ₹45.00 at every pack size, so buy exactly as many as you need. And the golden mini jar's 25-pack costs ₹1,180.00, or ₹47.20 a jar, while five packs of five cost ₹649.00 for the same 25 jars. That looks like a listing issue; do not order the 25-pack without asking CSI on WhatsApp to confirm the price.

Weigh a jar before you order oil
The black votive glass and mini jars have no published fill, so the 70 g and 50 g used on this page are placeholders. Fill one jar to your pour line, let it set and weigh it. If a mini jar holds 60 g rather than 50 g, a 100-jar order needs 504 g of oil at 8% with allowance, not 420 g.

How much oil each container takes

Load is a percentage of the total finished weight, and 8% is the working load throughout — inside both published ceilings, 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and 10% for CSI 464. The table gives oil per votive and how many votives each common bottle size scents, before allowance.

The 15 g column is the reason votive makers should skip the tester. At 3.75 votives per 15 g bottle, it is too little for a fair test at two loads. The 50 g is the practical tester for votives, and for most oils it is priced at or close to the 100 g rate — Orchard Pear is ₹4.80 a gram at 50 g, Gardenia ₹4.46 and Woody Oud ₹5.43. For which oils suit which container, go to best fragrance oils for votive candles; this page assumes you have chosen.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. For a first run of ten votives, the lists below buy a 50 g bottle, not a 100 g, even where the 100 g is cheaper per gram. Orchard Pear's 100 g is ₹3.80 a gram against ₹4.80 at 50 g — but ten 50 g votives need 42 g with allowance, and the 50 g bottle costs ₹140.00 less than the 100 g. Do not buy oil to save a rate you will not use. Move to 100 g when the second run is certain.

What the lists tell you

Five lists, one lesson: in a votive, the container and its fill set the price, and the run size sets the waste.

The cost per votive runs from ₹76.51 to ₹132.06. The container and its fill explain most of the spread: a 70 g black votive glass holds 40% more wax and oil than a 50 g mini jar, and the glass costs ₹31.86 against ₹21.24. Wax is the surprise for most makers — 46 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks is ₹27.55 a votive, more than the jar in a mini-jar votive; the same wax in CSI 464 at ₹507.40 a kilo is ₹23.34. The run size explains the rest. Small runs buy whole packs they only partly use: the ten Velvet hearts need 42 g of oil and buy 50 g, and need 483 g of wax and buy 500 g. At fifty and a hundred, the leftovers shrink as a share of the order, which is why ₹76.51 for a hundred mini jars is ₹8.35 less per votive than ₹84.86 for fifty, even though the oil and wax rates barely change.

The oil, by contrast, is a modest line. At the 100 g rate it adds ₹17.32 to a 50 g Gardenia votive and ₹30.81 to an 85 g Woody Oud tin. That leaves room to choose a better oil where the container and price support it — a 50 g votive with Raat Ki Rani at ₹7.00 a gram adds ₹28.00 of oil, ₹10.68 more than Gardenia. In a ₹45 heart jar sold as a gift, that may be exactly the right spend.

The leftover that becomes a habit. A 5% allowance and whole-pack buying leave something over on every small run: a few grams of oil, a few hundred grams of wax, spare wicks. Label and store them. A second run of the same scent uses them first; a drawer of half-bottles of different scents is money that never becomes a candle. In a votive the container is one of the two largest costs and the only one the customer sees before lighting. Choose it first, weigh its real fill, and only then buy oil and wax to match.
