Where bulk saves on festive oils

Across CSI's whole Fragrance Oils collection, the 1 kg pack is within 1% of the 100 g per gram for 52 of the 91 oils that list both sizes, and only 24 show a saving of 5% or more. The festive-fit oils follow the same pattern. The table below lists every in-stock festive oil at its three production sizes, marks the size that is cheapest per gram, and shows what the 1 kg saves against the 100 g. Where a size is out of stock it is marked, not priced.

Read the last column before you read anything else. A 10% saving on Cinnamon is real money: on 3 kg it is ₹1,770.00 against buying 100 g bottles. A 0.0% saving on Sandalwood means the kilo is purely a convenience decision. Two entries need care. Sacred Sandal Ember shows a 12.4% kilo saving on paper, but both its 100 g and 1 kg are out of stock. Only the 500 g at ₹3,999.00 can be bought, so that saving is not available. And Saffron Cedarwood's cheapest size is the 500 g, not the kilo.

Five buying patterns

Every festive oil falls into one of five patterns. Once you know an oil's pattern, the bulk decision takes seconds. The patterns come straight from the listed prices, so they will change if prices change. Recheck the product page on the day you order.

The first pattern is the only one where bulk buying saves money on its own. Six festive oils sit in it, and between them they cover rose, florals, spice and gourmand. If your Diwali range leans on those families, a bigger pack is both cheaper and safer. The flat pattern covers most of the woods and ouds. Here the kilo is a stock decision: it protects you against a sell-out in the last fortnight, and it saves reordering. It does not save money.

The reverse pattern is small but worth knowing. Midnight Bakhoor Royale, Sultan's Smoke and Smoked Rose Royale are listed at ₹799.00 for 100 g, ₹3,999.00 for 500 g and ₹7,999.00 for 1 kg. Ten 100 g bottles cost ₹7,990.00, which is ₹9.00 less than the kilo. That is not a reason to buy ten bottles. It is a reason not to expect a bulk discount on these three from the listed packs. For volumes above a kilo or two, ask for a quote instead.

Pack-mix maths for a 12 kg order

The scenario is a festive order that is already sized: 3 kg of Cinnamon, 2.5 kg of British Rose, 2 kg each of Saffron Cedarwood and Midnight Bakhoor Royale, 1.5 kg of Jasmine and 1 kg of Sacred Sandal Ember. That is 12 kg in six oils, enough for 750 candles at 16 g each. The table prices it three ways: everything in 1 kg packs (rounding up), everything in 100 g bottles, and the cheapest in-stock mix of 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg packs that covers each need.

The cheapest mix costs ₹63,856.80. Buying in kilos costs ₹70,711.20, which is ₹6,854.40 more: ₹3,398.40 of it from Saffron Cedarwood's kilo, and most of the rest from rounding British Rose and Jasmine up to whole kilos. Buying in 100 g bottles costs ₹70,607.00, ₹6,750.20 more, because Saffron Cedarwood loses its 500 g price and British Rose, Cinnamon and Jasmine lose their bulk breaks. For Jasmine, one 1 kg plus one 500 g would cost ₹5,884.00, a rupee more than three 500 g packs. That is the kind of difference to ignore in favour of fewer bottles. When convenience beats the rupee

The cheapest mix is the starting point, not the final order. In a festive workshop, bottle count, weighing time and consistency matter as well. A 1 kg pack is one weighing, one label and one place to look. Twenty 100 g bottles are twenty. For the three reverse-pattern oils the kilo costs ₹9.00 more than ten bottles, and most makers pouring at volume will happily pay that. The rule we suggest: if the cheaper mix saves less than about 1% of the oil's cost, take the simpler order. That threshold is a working assumption, so set your own.

Stock security is the other reason to buy bigger than the maths says. Festive demand is concentrated. If a scent sells out in the week before Diwali, the cheapest per-gram price is worth nothing, and restocks on popular sizes cannot be guaranteed that late. For a proven scent, buying a kilo more than your plan is often cheaper than losing a week of sales. For an unproven scent, the opposite holds. Keep it to the smallest production size and reorder if it sells. Two more practical points. First, ask whether a multi-pack order of one oil comes from the same batch if consistency across your run matters to you. Ask on WhatsApp at ordering time. Second, keep the per-gram price you paid on your batch sheet. It is the number you will need when you cost the candles and set a price, which the price hub and price per kg work through.

The shopping list

Here is the cheapest-mix order for the 12 kg scenario as a shopping list. Every line is an in-stock listed pack. If you prefer the simpler order, swap Jasmine's three 500 g packs for one 1 kg and one 500 g (₹1.00 more) and Midnight Bakhoor Royale's twenty 100 g bottles for two 1 kg packs (₹18.00 more).

That is ₹63,856.80 for 12 kg of festive oil, an average of ₹5.32 a gram, or ₹85.14 of fragrance per 200 g candle across 750 candles. Wax, wicks and jars are extra, and so are freight and GST.
