A Diwali candle is judged the moment the lid comes off, and the fragrance is most of that judgement. This page groups CSI's festive-fit oils into five scent families, prices each one inside a real candle, and lays the 2026 calendar over the top so you know what has to happen by when.
₹80.43
Sandalwood inside one 200 g candle at an 8% load · festive oils run ₹49.09 to ₹145.92 per candle · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which fragrance oils suit Diwali candles? Five families carry the festival: Indian florals (Raat Ki Rani, Jasmine), sandal and woods (Sandalwood, Saffron Cedarwood), oud, resin and smoke (Woody Oud, Midnight Bakhoor Royale), spice and warm gourmand (Cinnamon Vanilla, Spicy Cinnamon) and rose (British Rose). All have stock on 24 September 2026.

What does fragrance cost per Diwali candle? For a 200 g candle at 8% (16 g of oil), from ₹49.09 with British Rose to ₹145.92 with Santal Noir. Sandalwood is ₹80.43 and Jasmine ₹62.75. See cost per candle.

Are Mogra and Rajnigandha available? No. Both are out of stock on 24 September 2026, in every size. Do not build a Diwali range around either. Jasmine and Raat Ki Rani are the in-stock white florals to test instead.

When do I need the oil? On our working schedule, production oil in hand by Mon 5 Oct for stock ready on Sun 25 Oct, two weeks before Diwali on Sun 8 Nov. The durations are assumptions. The dated schedule explains each one.
The short answer

Each bar spans the cheapest and dearest in-stock oil in the family, priced at its lowest per-gram rate in a 100 g or larger pack. The bars overlap, which is the useful part: every family has an affordable entry point and a premium option, so the scent a customer wants and the price your margin needs rarely force the same compromise. Out-of-stock oils (Mogra, Rajnigandha) are excluded.
Straight answer
Which fragrance oils should an Indian candle maker use for Diwali, and what do they cost?
Diwali candles sell on scents that already mean the festival to the buyer: white florals like Raat Ki Rani and Jasmine, sandalwood and warm woods, oud and bakhoor-style smoke, cinnamon and vanilla, and rose. CSI has 21 oils in those families with stock on 24 September 2026. Two popular Indian florals, Mogra and Rajnigandha, are out of stock in every size, so plan without them. Inside a 200 g candle at an 8% load (16 g of oil), the fragrance costs from ₹49.09 with British Rose to ₹145.92 with Santal Noir. Sandalwood sits at ₹80.43 and Jasmine at ₹62.75. The calendar matters as much as the scent. Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. On our working schedule, production oil needs to be in hand by Mon 5 Oct for stock to be ready on Sun 25 Oct. Start with three well-tested scents, not eight untested ones. Use the ranked list to choose them and the quantity guide to size the order.
One line: three tested festive scents, ordered by early October, beat eight scents ordered in the last week.
Test the three festive families that cost least to produce before you commit. Sandalwood 15 g at ₹93.22, Jasmine 15 g at ₹103.00 and Cinnamon Vanilla 15 g at ₹106.20 come to ₹302.42. That scents three 200 g test candles at 7.5% or nine 50 g test pots at 10%.

The five festive scent families

Nobody buys a Diwali candle for a scent they have to be taught. They buy the smell of a puja thali, a jasmine string or a sweet-shop kitchen, in a jar.

Festive buying in India leans on scents with a meaning already attached. That is reasoning about the season, not sales data, but it is the right starting point for a range. White florals carry the garlands and evening flowers. Sandalwood carries the puja room. Oud and smoky resins carry incense and attar. Cinnamon, clove-style spice and vanilla carry the sweets and the kitchen. Rose sits across all of it, from garlands to gifting. CSI's in-stock catalogue covers every family. The table groups the 21 festive-fit oils and shows the cheapest and dearest oil in each family, costed inside one candle.

In-stock oils only · 16 g of oil per 200 g candle · best in-stock rate at 100 g or larger · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026
Festive families, their CSI oils and the per-candle range
Family In-stock CSI oils Cheapest per candle Dearest per candle
Indian florals Raat Ki Rani · Jasmine · Ylang Ylang · Neroli ₹62.75 (Jasmine) ₹108.38 (Raat Ki Rani)
Sandal & woods Sandalwood · Saffron Cedarwood · Santal Noir · Sacred Sandal Ember · Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) ₹80.43 (Sandalwood) ₹145.92 (Santal Noir)
Oud, resin & smoke Woody Oud · Dark Vanilla Oud · White Royal Oud · Midnight Bakhoor Royale · Sultan's Smoke ₹72.50 (Woody Oud) ₹129.60 (White Royal Oud)
Spice & warm gourmand Cinnamon Vanilla · Cinnamon · Spicy Cinnamon · Dark Vanilla · Vanilla Bean ₹72.88 (Cinnamon Vanilla) ₹122.34 (Vanilla Bean)
Rose British Rose · Smoked Rose Royale ₹49.09 (British Rose) ₹127.84 (Smoked Rose Royale)

Three things are worth reading off the table. First, every family has an entry point under ₹110 a candle, so no scent family is off limits on cost alone. Second, the spread inside a family is wider than the spread between families: the sandal and woods family runs from ₹80.43 to ₹145.92. Third, the oils that start at 100 g, such as Midnight Bakhoor Royale, Sultan's Smoke and Smoked Rose Royale, cost ₹799.00 to test at all, because no 15 g or 50 g is listed. That affects how you test them, which the ordering schedule covers.

Mogra and Rajnigandha are out of stock
Both Mogra and Rajnigandha (Tuberose) show no size in stock on 24 September 2026. Do not promise either to a customer or build a range around them. No restock date is published. If a white floral is central to your Diwali range, test Jasmine and Raat Ki Rani now. They are different scents, not substitutes, so judge them on their own merits. Ask on WhatsApp if you need to know whether either out-of-stock oil will return.

The families also behave differently in a range. Florals and rose read as gifts and sit well in white or pastel jars. Sandal, oud and smoke read as premium and suit darker glass and heavier lids. Spice and vanilla sell to people who want the house to smell of the festival, and they are often bought in twos and threes. A range that spans three families gives most buyers something they recognise. The Diwali collection guide builds that range in detail, and the Indian fragrances guide goes deeper on the florals, woods and resins.

What a Diwali candle costs to scent

The working example in this cluster is a 200 g container candle at an 8% fragrance load: 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. Wax is Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹599.00 a kilo (₹110.22 for 184 g). The wick is an Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 at ₹5.90 and the jar a White Matte Glass Jar at ₹70.80. That fixed base is ₹186.92. The table adds each oil at its lowest in-stock per-gram rate in a 100 g or larger pack, which is the rate a production run actually pays.

200 g candle · 8% load · 16 g oil · base of wax, wick and jar ₹186.92
Ten festive oils, costed inside one candle
Oil Pack priced ₹/g Oil per candle Material cost Oil's share
Sandalwood 1 kg · ₹5,026.80 ₹5.03/g ₹80.43 ₹267.35 30.1%
Jasmine 500 g · ₹1,961.00 ₹3.92/g ₹62.75 ₹249.67 25.1%
Raat Ki Rani 1 kg · ₹6,774.00 ₹6.77/g ₹108.38 ₹295.30 36.7%
Woody Oud 1 kg · ₹4,531.20 ₹4.53/g ₹72.50 ₹259.42 27.9%
Dark Vanilla Oud 500 g · ₹2,845.00 ₹5.69/g ₹91.04 ₹277.96 32.8%
Cinnamon Vanilla 1 kg · ₹4,554.80 ₹4.55/g ₹72.88 ₹259.80 28.1%
Spicy Cinnamon 500 g · ₹3,249.00 ₹6.50/g ₹103.97 ₹290.89 35.7%
British Rose 1 kg · ₹3,068.00 ₹3.07/g ₹49.09 ₹236.01 20.8%
Midnight Bakhoor Royale 100 g · ₹799.00 ₹7.99/g ₹127.84 ₹314.76 40.6%
Santal Noir 1 kg · ₹9,120.00 ₹9.12/g ₹145.92 ₹332.84 43.8%

Material cost means oil, wax, wick and jar only. It excludes labour, packaging, freight and GST. The spread is the story: British Rose adds ₹49.09 to the candle and Santal Noir adds ₹145.92, so two jars that look identical on a stall can cost ₹96.83 apart to make. Festive pricing tends to be generous, but a gift hamper buyer who is quoted one price for eight scents will expect the same quality in each. If your range spans ₹49 and ₹146 oils at one retail price, the cheap scents are subsidising the dear ones. Price by tier or keep the range inside one band.

Load is the other lever. At 6% the same candle holds 12 g of oil, and at 10% it holds 20 g. For Sandalwood that moves the oil cost from ₹60.32 to ₹100.54. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%. Those are the wax maker's stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits. Test your chosen load in your jar before a festive run, because a weak candle at Diwali is remembered for a year.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell more oil if we told you a Diwali range needs eight or ten scents. It rarely does. A small maker with three proven festive scents, poured well and delivered on time, will usually sell more than one with ten untested scents, several of which throw weakly or arrive late. Every extra scent adds a tester, a test cure, a separate pour and a separate leftover. Start with three. Add a fourth only if it fills a family you do not already cover.
The festive mistake that looks like generosity. Raising the load to 10% or 12% "because it is Diwali" does not reliably buy more scent. It raises the oil cost by a quarter or more, and an overloaded candle can sweat or burn poorly. If a test candle seems weak, check the wick size, the melt pool and the cure time first. A candle tested after two days is not the candle your customer burns after two weeks. How to Calculate Bulk Fragrance Oil Requirements for Candle Manufacturing covers the load maths in full.

The Diwali 2026 calendar

Diwali does not move for a late courier. Everything on this page works backwards from one Sunday.

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. Today is Thursday 24 September 2026, which leaves 45 days. Customers buy festive candles in the weeks before, not on the day, so the date that matters is when your stock is ready to sell. The schedule below assumes stock packed and ready two weeks before Diwali, a 10-day cure for soy container candles, 7 pouring days and 3 packing days. All of those durations are working assumptions, not rules. Your batch size, your cure preference and your sales channel will move them. Delivery time is not included, because it depends on your pincode. Ask CSI to confirm it when you order.

Working assumptions · adjust every duration to your own workshop
The Diwali 2026 back-schedule at a glance
Stage Date Assumption
Test pour of shortlisted scents Fri 25 Sep 7-day test cure, then 3 days of burn tests
Production oil, wax, wicks, jars in hand Mon 5 Oct Order date = this date minus the delivery time CSI confirms for your pincode
Production pours Tue 6 Oct – Mon 12 Oct 7 pouring days
Cure to Thu 22 Oct 10 days after the last pour
Pack and label Thu 22 Oct – Sat 24 Oct 3 days
Stock ready to sell or dispatch Sun 25 Oct Two weeks before Diwali
Diwali Sun 8 Nov 8 November 2026

The uncomfortable line is the first. On this schedule, test candles should be poured on Fri 25 Sep, which is tomorrow. If you have not yet tested your festive scents, the full cycle no longer fits before Sun 25 Oct. That does not mean skipping Diwali. It means making choices: use scents you have already tested for the main run, test only one or two new scents, or plan a second, later batch for local sales in Diwali week. When to order fragrance oils for Diwali lays out each option with dates.

The CSI principle
Order for the date the candle must be ready, not the date of the festival.
Sun 8 Nov is the festival. Sun 25 Oct is when your stock should be ready to sell, and Mon 5 Oct is when the oil must be on your bench. Plan from the last of those dates, and treat restocks on popular festive sizes as something you cannot count on this late in the season.

A first festive run, costed

Here is the scenario this hub uses: a small maker pouring 120 candles for Diwali, 40 each in three scents from three families. Sandalwood covers sandal and woods, Jasmine covers Indian florals and Cinnamon Vanilla covers spice and warm gourmand. All three are 200 g at 8%, and all three have 15 g testers, so the test step costs little. The steps below take the run from shortlist to shopping list.

1
Shortlist one scent per familyPick from the families your buyers already recognise. Three is enough for a first festive run. Best Fragrance Oils for Diwali Candles ranks the candidates with reasons.
2
Test in 15 gThe three testers cost ₹302.42 together. Pour each into your own jar and wax at your planned load. Cure for at least a week before judging, and burn each for several hours to see the full melt pool.
3
Work out oil per scent40 candles × 16 g = 640 g per scent. Add 5% for pour loss and test burns, a working assumption at the top of the usual 3–5% range: 672 g. How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Order for Diwali Candle Production? covers other run sizes and split ratios.
4
Buy in the packs that cover the need for least moneyFor all three oils the cheapest in-stock way to cover 672 g is one 500 g plus two 100 g, giving 700 g. For these oils the 1 kg would leave 300 g over. Buy Diwali Candle Fragrance Oils in Bulk shows the pack maths oil by oil.
5
Order wax, wicks and jars at the same timeA festive run fails on the missing item, not the main one. Order everything together so the whole run is on the bench by the same date.
6
Ask for paperwork with the orderIf you sell to shops or gifting clients, ask for the GST invoice and the MSDS and IFRA documents at the time of ordering. They are available on request on WhatsApp.

Swap Cinnamon Vanilla for Spicy Cinnamon (₹103.97) for a sharper spice. The premium tier, from Midnight Bakhoor Royale to Santal Noir, is covered in luxury fragrance oils for Diwali gifting candles, and client orders in the corporate gift guide.

The shopping list

This is the full material list for the 120-candle run above, with every quantity rounded up to packs CSI lists. Wax is 120 × 184 g plus 5%. Two 5 kg bags of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks cost ₹9.00 less than one 10 kg bag, so the list uses 5 kg bags. Wicks and jars are counted exactly, so buy a few spare jars if breakage in your workshop is a risk.

Total ₹32,888.36

That is ₹32,888.36 for materials, or ₹274.07 per candle once the allowance and the pack surplus are included. Costed at the exact per-candle rate, the same 120 candles come to ₹31,072.80, so rounding up to real packs and the 5% allowance add ₹1,815.56. That gap is normal, and the leftover oil is not wasted: Sandalwood, Jasmine and Cinnamon Vanilla all carry into the November–February wedding season. Labour, packaging, freight and GST are extra.

Keep the testers' notes with the order
Write down the load, wick, jar and cure time you used for each test candle, and pour the production run the same way. Festive runs go wrong when the production candle is not the candle that was tested: a different jar, a different wax lot or a rushed cure.

Where each Diwali question is answered

This hub gives the overview. Each sibling page owns one decision in depth, so you can go straight to the one you are stuck on. Buying Diwali oils in bulk works out which pack combination covers a known quantity for least money, oil by oil. The best fragrance oils for Diwali candles ranks the festive oils with reasons. The Diwali collection guide builds a six-to-eight scent range across price tiers.

Wholesale for Diwali production explains the quote route beyond the listed packs and what to send. Indian fragrances for Diwali covers the florals, woods and resins in more depth. Luxury Diwali gifting costs the premium tier, and corporate gift candles costs client orders at 100 and 500 pieces. How much to order and when to order handle the quantity and the dates. Whichever page you use, the numbers work the same way. Prices are CSI's listed prices on 24 September 2026, per-candle figures are arithmetic on those prices, and every duration in a schedule is a working assumption for you to adjust. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a Diwali page, the convenient advice for us would be a long list of scents and a 1 kg of each. This page recommends three tested scents for a first run, flags the two popular florals that are out of stock, and points out where a bigger pack does not save money.

Every oil and wax price on this page comes from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026. Wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Out-of-stock sizes are marked, never priced as buyable. Per-gram, per-candle and shopping-list figures are plain arithmetic on those prices, shown to two decimals so you can check them.

The 200 g candle, the 8% load, the 5% allowance and every duration in the Diwali schedule are working assumptions, not a recipe or a promise. Frequently asked questions

Which fragrance is best for Diwali candles?
There is no single best one. The strongest festive picks come from five families: white florals (Jasmine, Raat Ki Rani), sandalwood, oud and smoke, cinnamon and vanilla, and rose. For a first run, one scent from each of three families works well. Best Fragrance Oils for Diwali Candles ranks them.
How much fragrance oil do I need for Diwali candles?
At an 8% load, each 200 g candle needs 16 g of oil. Multiply by your candle count and add 3–5% for pour loss and test burns. For 40 candles in one scent, that is 640 g plus 5%, or 672 g. How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Order for Diwali Candle Production? covers other sizes and splits.
Is mogra fragrance oil available for Diwali?
Not on 24 September 2026. Mogra and Rajnigandha (Tuberose) are both out of stock in every size, and no restock date is published. Jasmine and Raat Ki Rani are the in-stock white florals. Ask on WhatsApp if you need an update on either.
When should I order fragrance oil for Diwali?
On our working schedule, production oil should be in hand by Mon 5 Oct for stock ready on Sun 25 Oct. Order date is that date minus the delivery time CSI confirms for your pincode. When Should Candle Businesses Order Fragrance Oils for Diwali Production? gives the full back-schedule.
What does a Diwali candle cost to make?
For a 200 g candle at 8%, oil, wax, wick and jar cost ₹236.01 with British Rose, ₹267.35 with Sandalwood and ₹332.84 with Santal Noir. Labour, packaging, freight and GST are extra.
Can I get fragrance oils in bulk for Diwali?
Yes. Listed packs go up to 1 kg for most oils, and larger or mixed orders are quoted on WhatsApp. No discount figure is published, so ask with your oils and quantities. Wholesale Fragrance Oils for Diwali Candle Production explains the route and Buy Diwali Candle Fragrance Oils in Bulk the pack maths.
