Where to Buy Small Fragrance Oil Samples for Candle Testing

Where the small sizes are

Of the 93 oils in the Fragrance Oils collection, 86 had at least one size in stock on 24 September 2026. The table sorts those 86 by the smallest size you can actually buy today, which is the effective minimum order for that oil. There is no store-wide minimum; the smallest listed size is simply the smallest amount of that oil you can have.

Two oils sit awkwardly between the rows. Moca Coffee and Coffee Blast both list a 15 g, but it was out of stock, so their working tester is the 50 g at ₹560.00 and ₹649.00. Grapefruit Oleo lists a 50 g that was out of stock, making the 100 g at ₹341.00 its entry. Stock changes; if you want a specific small size that is missing, ask on WhatsApp whether it is coming back before you pay for a larger one. Oils that start above 15 g

Here is a cross-section of the 35, cheapest entry first. The fourth column compares the entry price with a median 15 g, which is the honest measure of what it costs to start testing. The fifth shows the oil in one 50 g test pot at 8%, which is often lower than a 15 g tester's, because many 50 g sizes carry no sample premium at all.

The spread is wide. Royal Apricot and the second Pomegranate Splash listing start at ₹183.00 and ₹192.00 for 50 g, less than the dearest 15 g testers, and cost under ₹16 of oil per test pot. At the other end, Club De Nuit Intense Inspired costs ₹1,203.00 to start and ₹96.24 of oil per pot. Sacred Sandal Ember is a special case: with only the 500 g in stock, its tester is a production pack. Unless you are certain, ask for a restock date on the 100 g instead.

The 50 g double test

When the tester is a 50 g, design the test to use all of it. Split it into a load ladder in four 50 g pots (6%, 6%, 8%, 10%: 3 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15 g) and two full-size 200 g jars at 8% (16 g each, 32 g). That is 47 g, with 3 g left for sniff tests. The ladder tells you what load the oil wants; the jars tell you how it performs in the candle you will sell. From one bottle you get the answers that would otherwise need a sample and a trial batch.

The ladder and cure logic follow the 15 g sample guide, and the two jars follow a cut-down version of the trial-pack protocol. If the ladder tells you the oil needs 10%, the jars at 8% will under-read; in that case keep jar 2 unlit as planned and treat jar 1 as a floor, not a verdict. For a 100 g entry size, the same split leaves 53 g, which is either a third jar or the start of your first production run.

Calibrate on a cheap oil first

The most common way to waste an expensive tester is to use it to learn things that have nothing to do with the oil: your wax's pour temperature, your jar's wick size, your curing space. Learn those on a cheap 15 g oil in a similar family first. Then the 50 g is spent only on the question it alone can answer: is this scent right for your range?

"Similar family" here means a broadly similar kind of oil for process purposes, a coffee-led gourmand for a coffee-led gourmand, a rose for a rose. It does not mean the calibration oil smells like the expensive one, and it is not a substitute for testing it. What the calibration oil does is let you make your mistakes, a tunnel, a wet spot, a wick that smokes, for under ₹120 instead of ₹600.

A premium tester order, priced

Here is a worked order for a maker adding a signature tier: three perfume-style oils and one value fruity, all without a 15 g, plus a cheap calibration oil. Every oil below had its entry size in stock on the pull date.

Four double tests and one calibration ladder need 2,397 g of wax; 2.5 kg leaves a working margin of about 103 g for re-pours. Eight jars (two per tester oil) come from two packs of five, with two spare. Twenty-eight wicks (twenty pots, eight jars) come from three packs of ten.
