The six-point product-page check

There is no bundle to buy, so every tester is a separate decision on a separate product page. That is more clicks than a ready-made pack, but it means each rupee goes on an oil you chose. The check below takes under a minute per page once you know where to look. Run it for every oil on your shortlist before you add anything, then build the cart in one go.

Checks 1, 2 and 4 are obvious once written down. Checks 3 and 5 are the ones almost nobody makes, and they are the reason this page exists. The next two sections take them in turn. Check 6 matters later: when a retail buyer or corporate client asks for documentation, you want it on file for the oil you chose, not a promise of it. Ask when you order the tester and keep the document with your test record.

Three in five testers cost ₹110.00 or less, and eight testers at the median price would come to ₹849.60. The dear end is mostly premium woods and the two ₹199.00 testers, Tangerine and Freshwater (BBW Inspired). A set does not have to be cheap to be sensible; it has to be the set your range needs. 15 g or 50 g? Do the division

A 50 g holds 3.33 times the oil of a 15 g. So if the 50 g costs less than 3.33 times the 15 g, it is the cheaper gram. For every oil with both sizes in stock but one, it does, which is expected. What varies is by how much. Across the 51 oils the median 15 g premium over the 50 g is 17.1%. For some oils it is close to zero; for others the 50 g costs less than twice the 15 g. That spread should change which tester you buy.

Read the fourth column as a price comparison you can do in your head. Fresh Strawberries 50 g costs 1.88 times the 15 g, but holds 3.33 times the oil. If you plan to pour even one full-size candle as well as test pots, the 50 g is the better buy. Saffron Cedarwood runs the other way: its 15 g costs ₹6.92 a gram and its 50 g ₹7.08, so the tester is not only smaller but cheaper per gram. That is unusual, and a reminder that you cannot assume the ladder, only read it. The price hub shows the whole ladder from 15 g to 1 kg.

Only sample what you could reorder

A tester is the first step of a supply chain. If the oil passes, you will want 100 g for a first run and perhaps 1 kg after that. It is worth thirty seconds on the product page to check that those sizes are in stock now, before you spend fourteen days curing a pot. Stock changes, and an out-of-stock size may well come back; but if your launch date is fixed, an oil you cannot reorder is a risk you should know about before you test it, not after.

On the pull date, three oils had a 15 g in stock but a larger size sold out. Chocolate Fudge had no 100 g, although its 50 g, 500 g and 1 kg were in stock. Vetiver had no 1 kg. Freshwater (BBW Inspired) had no 500 g or 1 kg, so a tester that won you over would leave you buying production stock in 100 g bottles. None of this rules the oil out. It tells you to ask about restock dates on WhatsApp at the same time as you order the tester.

A worked eight-tester order

Here is a cart built with the six checks, for a maker planning a first range of fresh, fruity and gourmand candles. Each line records the decision, not just the price, so you can see how the checks shaped it.

Two lines are worth a second look. Fresh Strawberries has the highest 15 g premium in the cart (77.8%). Swapping it for the 50 g would raise the order to ₹841.34 and give you 50 g of oil instead of 15 g, enough for a full 200 g jar at 8% plus the test pots. Do it if strawberry is already a likely launch scent. Chocolate Fudge stays in the cart despite its missing 100 g, because the 50 g and 500 g are in stock; the note is there so the gap does not surprise you in October.

To test the cart, pour three 50 g pots per oil at 8% (4 g of oil each, 12 g in all), leaving 3 g in each bottle for sniff tests and a re-pour. That is 24 pots and 1,104 g of wax.
