CSI Cost Reduction · When to Ask for Volume Pricing
Ask when the price list runs out, the money matters and the pattern is steady: the largest listed pack more than once a month, about ₹25,000.00 a month on one material, three stable months. On a 200 g candle at 8% that is about 268 candles a month for wax.
₹25,000.00
a month on one material from one supplier: the spend trigger (our judgement) · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
At what monthly consumption should I ask for volume pricing? When three things are true at once (our judgement, not a rule): you buy the largest listed pack of one material more than once a month; your spend on that material with that supplier is around ₹25,000.00 a month or more; and you have held that level for three months on a material already tested in your candles. On a default 200 g candle at 8%, CSI 464 wax reaches ₹25,000.00 at about 268 candles a month (49.3 kg); all your fragrance from one supplier, at the Woody Oud kilo price, at about 345 candles (5.5 kg).

Below that, what should I do instead? Climb the listed tiers. At CSI that means Natural Soy Pearl from 5 kg (5.6% cheaper per kilo) and oils from 15 g to 100 g or 1 kg; our CSI 464, Chunks and Eco Soy are flat per kilo, and on 20 of 67 oils with both sizes in stock the kilo costs exactly two 500 g bottles.

What do I bring to the conversation? Three months of actual kilos and rupees per material, a 12-month forecast as a low/base/high range, the exact grade and pack, a delivery cadence, payment terms you can meet, and your test gate for any change of grade.

What is realistic to get? At the trigger level, a price hold, lot numbers and consistency, a dispatch plan and documentation are as valuable as a discount. A price is possible but not owed: an illustrative 2% on ₹25,000.00 is ₹500.00 a month, ₹6,000.00 a year. CSI publishes no volume discount; we will not invent one here.
The short answer
Trigger: largest listed pack more than once a month + about ₹25,000.00 a month on one material from one supplier + three stable months on a tested material (judgement).
In candles (200 g, 8%): wax about 268 a month on CSI 464; fragrance about 345 a month across all oils from one supplier; a single oil of six about 2,069.
Formula: trigger candles = ₹25,000.00 ÷ (grams per candle × your price per gram). Swap in your own figures.
Realistic asks: price hold, lot numbers, dispatch schedule, documentation; then price. Worth ₹500.00–₹1,250.00 a month at 2–5% (illustrative).
Where your monthly spend earns a conversation Default 200 g candle at 8%: 184 g CSI 464 wax, 16 g oil at the Woody Oud 1 kg price. Dashed line: ₹25,000.00 a month (judgement). 0 25k 50k 75k 100k 100 candles 18.4 kg wax 1.6 kg oil wax ₹9,336.16 all oils ₹7,249.92 one oil of six ₹1,208.32 250 candles 46.0 kg wax 4.0 kg oil wax ₹23,340.40 all oils ₹18,124.80 one oil of six ₹3,020.80 500 candles 92.0 kg wax 8.0 kg oil wax ₹46,680.80 all oils ₹36,249.60 one oil of six ₹6,041.60 1,000 candles 184.0 kg wax 16.0 kg oil wax ₹93,361.60 all oils ₹72,499.20 one oil of six ₹12,083.20 Wax crosses at about 268 candles a month (49.3 kg). All oils from one supplier cross at about 345 candles (5.5 kg). One oil of six needs about 2,069 candles a month. Worked example at CSI list prices, 4 October 2026; your grams and prices will differ.
Monthly spend on wax, on all fragrance from one supplier, and on one oil of six, at 100 to 1,000 candles a month of a default 200 g candle at 8%. The dashed line is the ₹25,000.00 spend trigger (judgement). Wax crosses first, at about 268 candles; fragrance as a whole at about 345; a single oil of six not until about 2,069.
Straight answer
At what monthly consumption should I ask my wax and fragrance suppliers for wholesale or volume pricing?
Ask when three triggers line up, not when one does. The pack trigger: you buy the largest listed pack of the same material more than once a month, so the supplier's own price ladder has nothing left to give you. The spend trigger: your spend on that one material with that one supplier is around ₹25,000.00 a month or more; below that, even a good percentage is small money for both sides (our judgement, the same figure used in the 100 kg-a-month wax post). The stability trigger: you have held that level for about three months, on a wax or oil that has already passed full burn tests in your candles. On a default 200 g candle at 8% (184 g wax, 16 g oil), that is about 268 candles a month for CSI 464 wax (49.3 kg) and about 345 candles for all your fragrance from one supplier at the Woody Oud kilo price (5.5 kg). Fragrance is usually spread over several oils, so ask on the total, not oil by oil: one oil of six would need about 2,069 candles a month to cross on its own. Before any of that, take the listed tiers; after it, bring numbers, ask for terms as well as price, and keep any change of grade behind a test gate.
One line: largest listed pack more than once a month, about ₹25,000.00 a month on one material, three stable months on a tested grade: then ask, on the total, with a forecast.
Below the trigger, the listed tier is your volume price. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg against ₹450.00 for 1 kg, ₹4.64 less on every 184 g candle with no conversation needed. All four sizes in stock on 4 October 2026.
Natural Soy Pearl 5 kg — ₹2,124.00

Turn your candles into kilos and rupees

A supplier hears kilos and rupees. Translate your candles before you pick up the phone.

The title gives no candle, so this post uses the series default: a 200 g candle at 8% fragrance on a total-weight basis, 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. The bill of materials below prices the wax and fragrance at CSI list prices, and labels the jar and label as worked figures. It is here for one reason: to show which lines are big enough to be worth a volume conversation at all.

Label (yours) 1 worked ₹4.00 1.6%
COGS ₹256.72 100.0%

Wax and fragrance together are 64.6% of this candle, which is why they are the two materials this post is about. Jars, boxes and wicks have their own volume logic (fixed per-unit pack tiers, breakage, design lock-in); the order in which to renegotiate every line as volume grows is the 500 to 5,000 units a month post.

Now multiply by your month. The table converts candles into kilos and into rupees at CSI list prices. The last column assumes your fragrance is split evenly over six oils, which most small ranges look like more than they look like one oil.

Monthly consumption at four volumes · default 200 g candle at 8%
Wax priced at CSI 464 ₹507.40 a kilo; fragrance at the Woody Oud 1 kg price · worked volumes, use your own · before freight and GST
Candles a month Wax kg 10 kg sacks Wax, rupees a month Fragrance kg All oils, rupees a month One oil of six, a month
100 18.4 1.8 ₹9,336.16 1.6 ₹7,249.92 ₹1,208.32
250 46.0 4.6 ₹23,340.40 4.0 ₹18,124.80 ₹3,020.80
500 92.0 9.2 ₹46,680.80 8.0 ₹36,249.60 ₹6,041.60
1,000 184.0 18.4 ₹93,361.60 16.0 ₹72,499.20 ₹12,083.20

Two things stand out. Wax spend grows fastest because each candle uses 184 g of it; at 500 candles a month it is already ₹46,680.80. And fragrance, which costs more per gram, is spread thin: at 1,000 candles a month your whole fragrance bill is ₹72,499.20, but each of six oils is only ₹12,083.20. A supplier sees both numbers. Which one you lead with decides the conversation.

Use invoices, not recipes
Your recipe says 184 g of wax a candle; your invoices include wax left in the pitcher, test candles and rejects. For a volume conversation, quote the kilos you actually bought over the last three months. How to count those losses properly is the post on wax lost in pouring vessels and rejects.

The three triggers, and where each one bites

One trigger alone is a hunch. Three together is a case.
When to ask for volume pricing · the three triggers
Thresholds are our judgement, not industry figures · candle counts on the default 200 g candle at 8%
Trigger What it means At CSI Default candle reaches it at Why it matters
1 · Pack You buy the largest listed pack of one material more than once a month CSI 464 / Chunks: 10 kg · Pearl: 50 kg · oils: 1 kg wax: 54 candles (one 10 kg sack) · one scent: 62 candles (one kilo) The listed ladder has nothing left to give you
2 · Spend About ₹25,000.00 a month on one material from one supplier Your invoice total per material wax: about 268 candles · all oils: about 345 · one oil of six: about 2,069 A percentage becomes money worth both sides' time
3 · Stability About three months at that level, on a grade already tested in your candles Same product, same pack, every month Your own records A supplier prices a pattern, not a peak; you never negotiate a grade you might abandon

The pack trigger comes first and comes early: one 10 kg sack of wax is used up by about 54 candles a month, one kilo of a single oil by about 62 candles of that scent. On its own it tells you only that the price menu is exhausted, not that a supplier will move on price. The spend trigger is what makes a request worth a supplier's time. ₹25,000.00 is the figure this series uses (our judgement): below it, even a 5% answer is ₹1,250.00 a month. The stability trigger protects you. A supplier who agrees a price on a forecast expects the volume; a maker who agrees a price on a wax they then reformulate away from has wasted both sides' effort.

The formula, so you can use your own candle: trigger candles a month = ₹25,000.00 ÷ (grams of the material per candle × your price per gram). For CSI 464 that is ₹25,000.00 ÷ (184 × ₹0.51 a gram) ≈ 268. For your own wax at a different price or fill, swap the numbers. For a cheap oil the trigger is further away: Citrus Lemon alone, at its kilo price, would need about 552 candles a month.

Mistake: asking for a "wholesale price" after the first 10 kg order. Why it fails: at 100 candles a month the wax bill is ₹9,336.16; an illustrative 2% is ₹186.72 a month. You spend goodwill on a number that does not change your margin. Fix: wait for all three triggers; until then, buy the cheapest listed tier you will use within a few months, and keep records you can show later.

The triggers are about asking, not about buying. Whether a committed monthly volume or a per-order price break suits you better is the per-order versus committed-volume post; whether a bigger pack is worth the cash it locks up is the MOQ and working capital post.

Take the listed tiers before you ask anyone

The cheapest negotiation is the one the price list already did.

Every supplier with a price list has already decided some volume pricing. Use it first, and check per kilo or per gram at each size, because bigger is not always cheaper. At CSI on 4 October 2026:

CSI wax ladders · price per kg at each listed pack
CSI live prices 4 October 2026 · all sizes in stock · per kg = price ÷ kg
Wax Smallest pack per kg 5 kg per kg Largest listed pack Largest per kg Listed volume saving
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 ₹507.40 (1 kg) ₹507.40 10 kg ₹5,074.00 ₹507.40 none from 1 kg
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks ₹599.00 (1 kg) ₹599.00 10 kg ₹5,999.00 ₹599.90 none; 10 kg is ₹9.00 dearer than ten 1 kg
Natural Soy Pearl Wax ₹450.00 (1 kg) ₹424.80 50 kg ₹21,240.00 ₹424.80 5.6% from 5 kg, then flat
Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 ₹650.00 (1 kg) ₹637.00 10 kg ₹6,370.00 ₹637.00 2.0% from 5 kg
Eco Soy CSI 400 ₹399.00 (1 kg) ₹399.20 5 kg ₹1,996.00 ₹399.20 none
Argued against our own interest: our 10 kg CSI 464 costs exactly what ten 1 kg bags cost, ₹507.40 a kilo, and our 10 kg Chunks cost ₹9.00 more than ten 1 kg bags. Do not buy the sack for a discount; buy it because it saves you reorders and handling. And no CSI wax lists a 25 kg or 100 kg pack, Pearl's 50 kg excepted: volume prices above the listed packs are a WhatsApp conversation, and we will not print a percentage here that we have not agreed with you.

Fragrance ladders behave differently. The big per-gram drops are at the small end (15 g to 50 g to 100 g), and the step from 500 g to 1 kg is often flat. Of the 67 oils with both 500 g and 1 kg in stock on 4 October 2026, the kilo costs exactly two 500 g bottles on 20, more than two on 19, and less on 28. No CSI oil lists a pack above 1 kg; 82 oils have a 1 kg in stock.

Four oils · what moving to the 1 kg saves on a 16 g candle
CSI live prices 4 October 2026 · per gram as listed · saving = 16 g × (smaller per gram − 1 kg per gram)
Oil 100 g per gram 1 kg per gram Saving per candle, 100 g → 1 kg At 100 candles a month of that scent
Woody Oud ₹4.53 ₹4.53 none: flat from 100 g none
Roasted Coffee ₹3.90 ₹3.74 ₹2.59 ₹259.20
Jasmine ₹4.30 ₹3.92 ₹6.03 ₹603.20
Lavender ₹5.40 ₹5.22 ₹2.86 ₹286.40

So the oil you would most like a better price on may already be flat at the top of its ladder (Woody Oud), and, of these four, the oil with the best listed step (Jasmine) gives ₹6.03 a candle without any conversation at all. Which scents deserve a kilo in the first place is the 1 kg or trial-size post; a supplier's 5 kg offer is a separate decision, made in the 5 kg fragrance pack post.

Fragrance: six small oils, one supplier

No single oil earns a negotiation. Your fragrance bill might.

A worked range (labelled; use your own): 600 candles a month, six scents selling 100 each, every candle 16 g of oil, each oil bought at its CSI 1 kg price. Each scent uses 1.6 kg a month, so every one of them passes the pack trigger. None passes the spend trigger.

Citrus Lemon candles (6-10%) ₹2,832.00 ₹45.31 ₹4,531.20
Six oils, one supplier ₹37,301.12

Together the six oils come to ₹37,301.12 a month, 1.49 times the ₹25,000.00 trigger, on 9.6 kg. Separately, the dearest of them is ₹8,353.60. That is the case for asking on the total: one conversation about your whole fragrance bill, with the oils listed and the forecast for each, rather than six requests about six small lines. It also explains why consolidating scents helps purchasing: the subject of the twenty-fragrances consolidation post.

Two cautions. Fragrance prices differ by oil, so a supplier may give terms on some oils and not others. And never let a volume deal choose your scents: a cheaper oil that needs a higher load can cost more per candle. That comparison belongs to the effective formulation cost post, not to a price list.

Mistake: accepting "the same note, cheaper, if you take 5 kg" as part of a volume deal. Why it fails: a different oil is a different candle: load, throw, wick and colour can all move. Fix: volume terms apply to the grade you approved. A substitute goes through the fragrance change tests first, as set out in the post on changing only the fragrance supplier.

What to bring to the conversation

A forecast with a range is worth more to a supplier than a promise without one.
1
Three months of actual purchasesPer material: kilos, packs and rupees from your invoices, month by month. Show the pattern, not just the average.
2
A 12-month forecast as a rangeLow, base and high kilos a month per material, with your peak months marked (Diwali falls on 8 November 2026; weddings and corporate gifting where they apply). A range is honest; a single number is a promise.
3
The exact grade and packName the product as listed, the pack you want, and the specification you approved it against. A written spec stops a "same but different" substitution; how to write one is the approved raw-material specification post.
4
Delivery cadence and destinationMonthly, fortnightly or per production run; your city and receiving hours. CSI dispatches from Pune and does not publish delivery times or freight, so confirm both on WhatsApp.
5
What you are asking for, in orderPrice hold, lot numbers on every bag or bottle, a dispatch plan, documentation, then a price on the stated volume. Say which matters most to you.
6
Payment terms you can actually meetAdvance, on dispatch, or whatever you use today. Do not offer terms you cannot fund to win a percentage.
7
Your test gateState that any change of grade, plant or lot source needs your approval and a retest before production. What a wax supplier change does to your existing test results is the change-only-the-wax-supplier post.

Preparing this takes a worked ₹600.00 of your time (four hours at a worked ₹150.00 an hour; use your own). At the trigger, an illustrative 2% answer repays that in about 1.2 months. A supplier with lot-level answers on fragrance consistency and availability is also worth more than one with a lower price; the questions to ask are in the batch consistency and availability post.

One supplier, many oils
If you are deciding whether one fragrance supplier can cover dozens of scents, compare performance, consistency, documentation, bulk pricing and availability together: the one-supplier comparison post sets out the scorecard.

What a volume conversation can realistically give

At the trigger, terms often beat percentages.
What to ask for at the trigger · and how realistic it is
Our judgement for a buyer at about ₹25,000.00 a month on one material · CSI publishes no volume discount, stock depth or lead time
Ask Realistic? What it protects With CSI
A price on a stated monthly volume Possible, not owed Margin on every candle Ask on WhatsApp with your figures; we publish no volume discount
A price hold for a set period Commonly asked Against a list-price rise: an illustrative 5% on ₹25,000.00 is ₹1,250.00 a month Ask; any hold is agreed case by case
Lot numbers on every pack Reasonable Traceability when a batch behaves differently Ask for lot details with your order
A dispatch plan Reasonable Production days; fewer emergency buys Dispatch from Pune; confirm timing per order
MSDS and IFRA documents Reasonable Your compliance file and retailer questions On request on WhatsApp
Reserved stock Harder at this level Against a stock-out We do not promise stock depth here; check availability per size
Exclusivity on a grade Unrealistic Nothing a small brand needs Not offered

Then put a number on a yes. The table uses illustrative percentages, not CSI offers, at the trigger spend and on the six-oil fragrance bill above.

What a yes is worth · illustrative percentages
Labelled illustrations, not CSI discounts · per candle on the 184 g CSI 464 wax line · annual = monthly × 12
If the answer is On ₹25,000.00 a month A year Per candle on wax Six-oil fragrance bill, a year
2% ₹500.00 ₹6,000.00 ₹1.87 ₹8,952.27
3% ₹750.00 ₹9,000.00 ₹2.80 ₹13,428.40
5% ₹1,250.00 ₹15,000.00 ₹4.67 ₹22,380.67

These are worth having and worth asking for. They are not worth changing supplier or formula for. A 2% answer is ₹1.87 a candle on wax; a new supplier who is cheaper still needs testing, and the cost of that is the subject of the 15% cheaper supplier post. If your current supplier is reliable, the price gap that would justify leaving them is usually larger than people expect: the reliable-but-dearer supplier post works it out.

Argued against our own interest: do not switch supplier, even to us, for a 2–3% volume price. A changed wax or oil is a formulation change. If one month in ten went wrong on a ₹25,000.00 material (a worked example), the expected cost would be ₹2,500.00 a month, ten times the illustrative 2%. Ask your current supplier first, with numbers. If you buy elsewhere and your candles are good, that is a reason to stay.
Already well past the trigger? At 100 kg of wax a month you are a volume buyer, and how to run that specific negotiation (forecast format, what to ask for, what not to promise) is the 100 kg wax post. If the supplier offers a better price for holding three months of stock, check the cash first: the three-months-of-wax post.

It is ₹507.40 a kilo from the 1 kg bag to the 10 kg sack, so the 10 kg is the largest listed pack and also no cheaper per kilo. That makes it the clearest case for this post: once you buy two or more 10 kg sacks a month, there is no listed tier left to climb, and the next step is a conversation. Limitation: a flat ladder means a pack-size change saves nothing; only an agreed price can.

The page describes "citrus and spice top notes opening into rich oud and patchouli heart, settling into warm woody notes, amber, and musk" and states "candles (6-10%)", with "Cure soy wax candles for 48-72 hours before burn testing". Argued against our own interest: 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg are all ₹4.53 a gram. The kilo buys convenience and fewer reorders, not a lower price; the step that saves money is 15 g to 50 g or 100 g (₹26.94 a 16 g candle against the 15 g). If this oil is a big line for you, a per-kilo price is a question for WhatsApp, not for the pack menu.

Jasmine Fragrance Oil
The page describes it as "sweet, floral, and slightly musky with a timeless luxurious aroma", states "Recommended load up to 10% soy, up to 6% paraffin", a cure of 48-72 hours for soy and "0% vanillin - no discolouration" (the page's claim; test anyway). Here the listed ladder works: 100 g at ₹4.30 a gram to 1 kg at ₹3.92 saves ₹6.03 on a 16 g candle. 500 g and 1 kg are the same per gram; two 500 g bottles actually cost ₹1.00 less than the kilo. Limitation: one floral at 100 candles a month is 1.6 kg: past the largest listed pack, well short of a spend that earns a negotiation on its own.

Diwali is 8 November 2026, 35 days from 4 October 2026. A festive peak is not a pattern: do not open a volume conversation on one October's kilos. Buy the listed tiers you need for the season now, keep the invoices, and bring three steady months to us on WhatsApp afterwards for a quote with a GST invoice and a dispatch plan.

The CSI principle
Climb the price list first. Ask when the list runs out, the money matters and the pattern is steady.
Largest listed pack more than once a month, about ₹25,000.00 a month on one material, three stable months on a tested grade: about 268 candles a month for CSI 464 wax and about 345 for all your fragrance, on a 200 g candle at 8%.
"A supplier prices a pattern. Bring three months of it, and ask for terms before you ask for a percentage."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the waxes and fragrance oils named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you that our 10 kg CSI 464 is no cheaper per kilo than our 1 kg, that our 10 kg Chunks cost more than ten 1 kg bags, that Woody Oud is the same per gram from 100 g to 1 kg, and that a small volume price is not a reason to change supplier, including to us.

Every CSI price was checked on the live store on 4 October 2026, per size; every size shown is in stock on that date. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured (Natural Soy Pearl's load ceiling), we say so. We do not publish volume discounts, stock depth or lead times, and this page invents none.

The ₹25,000.00 trigger, the three-month stability rule, the six-oil range, the 2/3/5% answers, the jar and label prices, the time cost and the risk example are our judgement or labelled worked examples. This is practical business judgement, not financial, tax or legal advice. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

When should a small candle business ask for wholesale prices on wax?
When you buy the largest listed pack more than once a month, spend around ₹25,000.00 a month on that wax with one supplier, and have done so for about three months on a tested grade (our judgement). On a 200 g candle at 8% in CSI 464, that is about 268 candles a month.
How much fragrance oil do I need to buy to get a bulk discount?
Ask on your total fragrance spend with one supplier, not oil by oil. At the Woody Oud kilo price, about 5.5 kg a month across your oils reaches ₹25,000.00; a single oil of six would need about 2,069 candles a month on its own.
Is 10 kg soy wax cheaper than 1 kg per kilo?
Not at CSI for CSI 464 (₹507.40 a kilo at both) or Chunks (the 10 kg is ₹9.00 dearer than ten 1 kg). Natural Soy Pearl is 5.6% cheaper from 5 kg, then flat to 50 kg; CSI 468 is 2.0% cheaper from 5 kg.
What should I send a supplier when asking for volume pricing?
Three months of actual kilos and rupees per material, a low/base/high 12-month forecast, the exact grade and pack, delivery cadence, payment terms you can meet, and your rule that any change of grade needs your approval and a retest.
What discount can I expect for buying candle wax in bulk?
There is no standard figure, and CSI publishes none. Treat any percentage as a quote to request. For scale, an illustrative 2% on ₹25,000.00 a month is ₹500.00 a month, ₹6,000.00 a year; a price hold, lot numbers and a dispatch plan can be worth as much.
Should I change suppliers to get a better volume price?
Rarely for a small percentage. A different wax or oil is a formulation change that needs testing, and a failed month costs more than a 2–3% saving. Ask your current supplier first; compare a cheaper supplier only with the switching cost included.
Volume pricing · when to ask
Largest pack more than once a month, about ₹25,000.00 a month, three steady months: then ask, with numbers.
Below the trigger, take the listed tiers that really are cheaper and skip the ones that are flat. At the trigger, send us your three months and a forecast range on WhatsApp, and we will talk price, hold, lots and dispatch on the grade you have already tested.

About this guide: part of CSI's series on candle cost reduction and raw-material optimisation, cluster 6081–6100. It sets out when to ask wax and fragrance suppliers for volume pricing: three triggers (pack, spend, stability), the candle counts at which a default 200 g candle reaches them, the listed CSI tiers to use first, why fragrance is asked on the total, what to bring, what is realistic to get, and what a yes is worth.

Non-price figures: the title gives no candle; the series default 200 g at 8% is used (load as a percentage of total weight: 16 g oil + 184 g wax). The ₹25,000.00 trigger and three-month rule are our judgement; the jar (₹55.00), label (₹4.00), volumes, six-oil range, 2/3/5% answers, ₹150.00 an hour, 5% price rise and the one-month-in-ten risk are labelled worked examples, not CSI figures. The chart's axis ticks (0 to 100k rupees a month) are scale marks, not prices. CSI publishes no volume discounts, stock depth, lead times or freight. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
