Attar houses, compounders, resellers and candle-supply stores all sell "sandalwood". For a premium candle brand, only some can tell you how it behaves in wax. The routes, a two-stage sampling plan, the documents to hold and twelve questions to ask anyone, including us.
₹962.48
eight Indian oils screened at 15 g · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Where can a premium brand buy Indian-inspired fragrance oils in India? Four routes: a candle-supply store with published prices and candle loads (such as CSI), a fragrance compounder who develops a custom oil, a traditional attar house, or a marketplace reseller. For a new premium brand, in our judgement the first route is the only one of the four that reliably lets you sample small, compare per gram and read a stated candle load before you buy.

How should I sample? In two stages. Screen eight candidates at 15 g for ₹962.48, then prove the best three at 50 g for ₹1,238.00. Total ₹2,200.48, which is ₹597.34 less than buying all eight at 50 g.

Which documents should I ask for? The MSDS (safety data sheet), the IFRA certificate for the exact oil, and a GST invoice. CSI provides MSDS and IFRA documentation on request on WhatsApp; check that the certificate names the oil you bought.

What is the one question most brands forget? "Can anyone else buy this?" From a catalogue supplier, including CSI, the answer is yes. Your distinctiveness has to come from the blend, the load, the vessel and the name, not the bottle.
The short answer
Route: buy from a store that publishes per-size prices, stock and candle loads; use WhatsApp for bulk quotes, GST invoices, MSDS and IFRA papers.
Sampling: 15 g to screen, 50 g to prove, 500 g to launch. Never skip the middle step.
Documents: MSDS, an IFRA certificate that names the oil and covers candles, a GST invoice and a lot number on every bottle.
Red flags: no stated candle load, only perfume usage rates, a ship date that has passed, a brand name in the listing title.
From product page to first production order Seven checks, in order. The right-hand boxes are where most premium brands lose time or money. 1 Shortlist from the product page Stated notes, sizes, stock by size today 2 Does the page state a candle load? Yes: note it. No: go right Ask for candle guidance; test only inside the wax ceiling 3 Screen at 15 g: smell only One cold sniff, one 8% votive No 15 g listed? Royale starts at 100 g, some at 50 g 4 Prove at 50 g: 6%, 8%, 10% Cure, burn, keep the lowest pass 5 Ask for MSDS and IFRA certificate Plus a GST invoice and a lot number Check the certificate names this oil and covers candles 6 Is the listing named after a brand? Read the title before the label Keep third-party names off your label and listing 7 Confirm stock, quantity, dispatch Then order 500 g of each winner Solid boxes: the main path. Dashed boxes: branches and checks. Candle loads, sizes and stock as listed on 24 September 2026.
The sourcing path this page recommends. Each step is a check you can make on a CSI product page or over WhatsApp before money moves; the dashed branches are the four places a premium Indian brand most often goes wrong: no stated candle load, no small size, documents that do not match the oil, and a borrowed brand name.
Straight answer
I am launching a premium Indian candle brand. Where should I buy Indian-inspired fragrance oils, how should I sample them, and what should I ask the supplier before a real order?
Buy from a supplier whose product pages show every size's price, whether each size is in stock, and a candle load, so you can compare before you pay. At CSI that means the fragrance oils collection for candle-grade oils and fine perfume fragrances for perfume-grade ones, with WhatsApp (+91 7397976926) for bulk quotes and papers. Sample in two stages: 15 g of up to eight candidates to rule out by smell (₹962.48 for the eight on this page), then 50 g of your best three to test at 6%, 8% and 10% (₹1,238.00). Before the first 500 g order, get the MSDS and IFRA certificate for each oil, check the certificate names that oil, confirm stock quantity and a dispatch date in writing, and read every listing title for a third-party brand name you must keep off your label. And know the limit of any catalogue: the oil you choose can be bought by anyone, so your signature comes from how you use it.
One line: buy where you can read the load, sample in two steps, hold the papers before the kilograms, and never mistake a catalogue oil for an exclusive one.
The cheapest way to start: screen, do not commit. Eight Indian candidates at 15 g cost ₹962.48, about ₹8.02 a gram on average. Each bottle is one 150 g candle at 8%, or two 70 g votives: enough to rule an oil out, not enough to prove it.

Four routes to Indian-inspired oils, compared

Every route can get you a beautiful jasmine. Only some can tell you how it behaves in wax.

A premium Indian brand has more sourcing choices than most. Kannauj's attar distillers, Mumbai and Delhi fragrance compounders, candle-supply stores and online resellers all sell something called "sandalwood" or "mogra". They sell very different things. The table is our judgement of each route for a brand at the stage of choosing its first six to ten scents; we name no companies other than our own.

Sourcing routes · a premium brand's first year
What each route is good at, and where it is weak
Route Strength Weakness for a candle brand Best for
Candle-supply store (e.g., CSI) Small sizes, published per-size prices, stated candle loads on many oils, wax and jars in the same order Catalogue oils: anyone can buy the same one; some perfume-grade listings state no candle load Sampling, first collection, steady reorders
Fragrance compounder (custom oil) An oil made to your brief, potentially exclusive Usually minimum quantities and development time beyond a first collection; you must specify candle use yourself An established brand's signature scent
Attar house Deep cultural authenticity; natural distillates in the traditional style Attars are made for skin, often in a sandalwood-oil base, and priced accordingly; not formulated or documented for candle wax Inspiration and smell-reference, not candle production
Marketplace reseller Convenience, sometimes low prices Often repackaged; lot, source and documents can be hard to trace; candle load rarely stated Avoid for a premium line

We are a candle-supply store, so read that table knowing where we stand. Our honest view is that the compounder route is the right second step for a brand that has proved it can sell a signature scent, and that an attar is the best possible reference: buy a small vial of gulab or mitti attar, smell it beside your candle oils, and you will know exactly what "authentic" means to your customers. Then make candles from oils designed for wax.

Buying from CSI: store, collections and WhatsApp

Everything on this page can be bought on the CSI store without talking to anyone. Talk to us when the order is large, when you need papers, or when a page does not answer your question.

CSI buying routes · what each is for
Where to click, and when to message instead
Route Use it for What you get
Fragrance oils collection Candle-grade oils: Raat Ki Rani, Gilli Mitti, Sandalwood, British Rose, Jasmine, Gardenia, the ouds 15 g to 1 kg on most oils, candle load stated on most pages
Fine perfume fragrances Perfume-grade and inspired listings: the perfume-grade sandal, Amber Oud Royal, Royal Oud Perfume usage rates; candle loads usually not stated
New launches and Diwali collection Seeing what has been added, and seasonal jars and oils Useful for a premium brand's seasonal edition
Wax, jars, wicks Everything else in the same order One delivery for the whole test
WhatsApp +91 7397976926 Bulk quotes, GST invoice, MSDS and IFRA documents, stock quantity, dispatch date, restock dates Answers the store cannot show

Two things the store cannot tell you, which you should always ask. First, quantity: the store shows whether a size can be ordered, not how many are on the shelf. Second, current status of dated listings: Raat Ki Rani's web address still contains "ships-21st-june-2025", and Rajnigandha's title still reads "Ships 12th July 2025". Both dates have passed. Raat Ki Rani is in stock at every size on 24 September 2026; Rajnigandha is out of stock at every size. Ask on WhatsApp rather than reading an old date as a promise. For per-gram comparisons across every size, see Wholesale Indian-Inspired Candle Fragrance Oils; for Diwali-scale batches and lead-time planning, Bulk Indian Luxury Fragrance Oils for Candle Manufacturers.

Argued against our own interest: one of the reviews at the top of this page, from a customer who calls our products premium, also says the delivery charges "are very high". Freight is a real cost of buying from any single supplier, and it is not in any of the per-candle figures on our pages. Price your first order with freight included, and compare it with what a local supplier would charge before you decide where to buy.

Sampling like a premium brand: screen at 15 g, prove at 50 g

A 15 g bottle answers "do I like it?". Only a 50 g bottle answers "will it work?".

Many new brands over-sample: twenty oils at 50 g, most of which they rule out by smell in the first minute. Split the job. At 15 g you are paying to say no quickly; at 50 g you are paying for evidence. A 15 g bottle is one 150 g candle at 8% (12 g), or two 70 g votives at 8% (5.6 g each). A 50 g bottle is three candles at 6%, 8% and 10% plus a retest.

Two-stage sampling · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026
Eight candidates screened, three proved: ₹2,200.48
Stage Oil Size Price Why it is on the list
Screen Raat Ki Rani 15 g ₹130.00 Night jasmine; stated load 6–10%
Screen Gilli Mitti 15 g ₹140.00 First-rain earth; stated load 6–10%
Screen White Royal Oud 15 g ₹130.00 Saffron, rose, oud, sandalwood; stated 6–10%
Screen Saffron Cedarwood 15 g ₹103.84 Saffron and cardamom; no load stated
Screen Santal Noir 15 g ₹166.00 Dry, spiced sandalwood; no candle load stated
Screen Gardenia 15 g ₹105.02 Creamy white floral while Rajnigandha is out
Screen Sandalwood 15 g ₹93.22 The reference chandan; stated up to 10%
Screen British Rose 15 g ₹94.40 The reference gulab; stated up to 10%
Screen subtotal (120 g) ₹962.48
Prove Raat Ki Rani, Gilli Mitti, White Royal Oud (example finalists) 3 × 50 g ₹1,238.00 Three loads plus a retest each
Two-stage total ₹2,200.48 Against ₹2,797.82 for all eight at 50 g

Two oils a premium brand will want to screen have no 15 g: Smoked Rose Royale starts at 100 g (₹799.00) and the perfume-grade sandal listing at 50 g (₹442.00). Screen those last, and only if the in-stock alternatives have not satisfied you. The 15 g is the dearest size per gram on almost every oil (Raat Ki Rani is ₹104.00 of oil per 8% candle at 15 g against ₹88.80 at 50 g), which is exactly why it should only be used to rule oils out.

1
Smell every screen bottle blind, on strips, in one sittingDip paper strips, label the back, and have someone shuffle them. Score recognition: can a person who did not buy them name the note?
2
Pour the survivors in votives at 8%Two 70 g clear glass votives per surviving 15 g bottle; if all eight survive that is sixteen votives, two packs of 10 at ₹637.20. Pour in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, the wax you intend to launch in.
3
Cure a week and burn one per eveningNo page here states a cure time; at least 48–72 hours is common practice, longer for soy. Note throw from the doorway at one hour.
4
Choose three finalists and buy 50 gPour each at 6%, 8% and 10% in your real production jar (the lower of the wax ceiling and the page's stated maximum governs; for these, 10%).
5
Request documents for the finalists onlyMSDS and IFRA certificate for three oils, not twenty. Check each names the oil you bought.
6
Retain a sample of every lotKeep 10 g of each production bottle, sealed and labelled with its lot. When you reorder, compare the new bottle against it before you pour 500 g.

Documents to hold before your first production order

A premium brand will be asked for paperwork sooner than it expects: by a corporate gifting client's procurement team, a hotel or retail buyer, a marketplace, or an export customer. Have these on file for every oil in production.

Supplier documents · what to request and what to check
Ask once, file forever, re-ask when the lot changes
Document What it is What to check At CSI
MSDS / SDS Safety data sheet: hazards, handling, storage, first aid The product name matches your bottle exactly On request on WhatsApp
IFRA certificate The supplier's statement of how the oil conforms to IFRA standards, by product category That it names the oil, states the IFRA amendment, and gives a maximum for candles (IFRA places candles in Category 12) On request on WhatsApp; some pages describe oils as "IFRA-certified" or "IFRA compliant", which is the page's wording
GST invoice Tax invoice for input credit Your GSTIN and the exact products and sizes Available
Lot or batch number Traceability for a reorder Written on the bottle or invoice Ask with each production order

Several pages in the Indian palette use certification wording, among them Gilli Mitti ("A rich, earthy IFRA-certified fragrance oil"), White Royal Oud ("An ultra-refined, IFRA-certified white royal oud fragrance oil"), Gardenia ("A luxurious, IFRA-certified gardenia fragrance oil") Sacred Sandal Ember ("IFRA Certified" in its title), Dark Vanilla Oud and Vetiver. The perfume-grade listings, including the perfume-grade sandal listing and Amber Oud Royal, say "IFRA compliant, phthalate-free". We report those as the pages' words; the document you hold is what counts, so ask for it.

Fragrance oil is not essential oil
Everything on this page is a fragrance oil. If a supplier, or your own label, calls an Indian candle "pure essential oil" or "natural attar", ask for proof; if they cannot give it, do not print it. The honest phrasing is "fragrance" or "scented with sandalwood fragrance".

Twelve questions to ask any supplier, including us

The right questions cost nothing. A kilogram bought without them can cost the launch.

Ask these of every supplier on your shortlist. Where the product data lets us, we have filled in CSI's answer honestly, including where it is "no" or "not stated".

Supplier questions · CSI's answers as of 24 September 2026
What a premium Indian brand should know before it pays
# Question Why it matters CSI's answer
1 Does the page state a candle load? Perfume rates (15–25%) are not candle loads Yes on most candle-grade oils; no on the Royale range and most perfume-grade listings
2 Is this a fragrance oil, an essential oil or an attar? It decides what you can print on the label Fragrance oils
3 Can I have the MSDS and IFRA certificate for this exact oil? Corporate and retail buyers ask for them On request on WhatsApp
4 What is the smallest size I can buy? Sampling cost 15 g on most candle-grade oils; 50 g or 100 g on others
5 Which sizes are in stock today, and how many units? Sizes can be out while the product shows in stock Stock by size on the page; quantity on WhatsApp
6 Is any "ships on" date in the listing still current? Old dates are not promises Raat Ki Rani and Rajnigandha carry 2025 dates; ask
7 What is the price per gram at every size? Bigger is not always cheaper Published; some 1 kg sizes are dearer per gram than 500 g
8 Is the listing named after another brand, and can I use that name? Trademark risk on your label Some listings are; the names are CSI's listing names, CSI is not affiliated, and you must not use them
9 Can I get a GST invoice? Input credit Yes
10 How long to dispatch to my city? Launch and festival dates Not published; ask for a date in writing
11 Will a reorder match my first bottle? A premium line lives on consistency Ask for the lot number; keep a retained sample and compare
12 Is this oil exclusive to me? Differentiation No; catalogue oils are sold to anyone

For a brand launching a whole line, the order in which to ask these, and the budget and calendar around them, is set out in I'm Creating a Luxury Indian Candle Brand — Which Fragrance Oils Can Build a Distinctive Indian Collection?. How to position what you finally buy, without leaning on clichés, is the job of Indian Luxury Fragrance Oils for Candle Brands.

Five oils, five different questions

Each of these is a good oil for a premium Indian line, and each is here because it teaches one of the questions above. Ranked by how much evidence the page gives you before you buy: a stated candle load first, then stock and small sizes.

1
white floral · night jasmine · question 6: is the date current?
Raat Ki Rani (Night-Blooming Jasmine) Fragrance Oil
In our reading, the most complete page among the Indian florals: "Top Notes: Green Stems, Fresh Ozone | Middle Notes: Night-Blooming Jasmine, White Florals | Base Notes: Soft Amber, Musk", "Recommended fragrance load is 6-10% for candles", every size in stock on 24 September 2026. The lesson is in the web address, which still contains "ships-21st-june-2025": an old launch date that no longer means anything. Limitation: at ₹88.80 of oil per 8% candle at 50 g, it is a premium floral, and it is not mogra; if mogra is your hero, ask about restock.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹130.00 ₹8.67 1
50 gm ₹370.00 ₹7.40 4
100 gm ₹700.00 ₹7.00 8
500 gm ₹3,387.00 ₹6.77 41
1 kg ₹6,774.00 ₹6.77 83
Screen at 15 g (₹130.00), prove at 50 g (₹370.00). Buy Raat Ki Rani
2
earthy · first rain · question 3: ask for the certificate
Gilli Mitti (Patchouli)
The note a premium Indian brand can build a story on: "fresh rain, soft soil, natural patchouli, damp woods, and light musk. Evokes petrichor". It states "The recommended fragrance load is 6-10% for candles" and calls itself "A rich, earthy IFRA-certified fragrance oil". That wording is the page's; the certificate is the evidence, so ask for it with your 50 g order. One verified customer review on this page names Gilli Mitti among scents she found "amazing and authentic". Limitation: ₹8.96 a gram at every size from 50 g, with no bulk saving.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹140.00 ₹9.33 1
50 gm ₹448.00 ₹8.96 4
100 gm ₹896.00 ₹8.96 8
500 gm ₹4,480.00 ₹8.96 41
1 kg ₹8,960.00 ₹8.96 83
Oil per 8% candle: ₹107.52, at any size from 50 g. Buy Gilli Mitti
3
rose over bakhoor · question 1: no candle load stated
Smoked Rose Royale
A dark, evening rose that suits a premium line: "Top Notes:Dark rose petals Middle Notes:Smoky bakhoor accord, soft spice Base Notes:Amber, musk, warm woody undertones". The page states no candle load, so ask what load we advise, and test at 6%, 8% and 10% inside the wax ceiling (10% for CSI 464). It also answers question 4 badly: the smallest size is 100 g. Limitation: ₹95.88 of oil per 8% candle, with no per-gram saving at 500 g or 1 kg.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
100g ₹799.00 ₹7.99 8
500g ₹3,999.00 ₹8.00 41
1kg ₹7,999.00 ₹8.00 83
Smallest size 100 g (₹799.00): screen it last. Buy Smoked Rose Royale
4
sandalwood oriental · question 8: whose name is it?
Sandal ITC inspired fragrance oil
That is CSI's product listing name. The oil is CSI's interpretation, CSI is not affiliated with the company named, and a premium brand must not put that name, or any hint of it, on its label or product listing. On the scent itself, the page is rich: "Opens with saffron, cardamom, and bergamot, moves into a creamy heart of sandalwood, cedar, and rose, and dries down to amber, musk, vanilla, and benzoin", described as "IFRA compliant, phthalate-free". It is perfume-grade with no candle load stated, and 63% dearer per gram at 50 g than plain Sandalwood. Limitation: you are paying for structure, not for the name; burn it beside Sandalwood before deciding.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
50g ₹442.00 ₹8.84 4
100g ₹885.00 ₹8.85 8
1kg ₹8,848.00 ₹8.85 83
Oil per 8% candle: ₹106.08 at 50 g, against ₹65.14 for Sandalwood. Buy the perfume-grade sandal
5
oud amber · question 1 again: perfume-grade price
Amber Oud Royal – Opulence, Redefined
The dearest oil on this page and on CSI's Indian candle ladder, and the clearest example of why a premium brand should ask what "premium" is buying. The page describes an oil that "opens with rich resins and spices, unfolds into smoky oud and lush florals, and lingers with golden amber, creamy sandalwood, and dark musk", "IFRA compliant, phthalate-free", listed under fine perfume fragrances. No candle load is stated. At 100 g it puts ₹155.88 of oil into one 8% candle, 2.4 times the oil cost of a Sandalwood candle at 50 g. Limitation: a perfume-grade oil may be superb on skin and ordinary in a hot throw; only a burn test tells you, so buy 100 g first.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
100g ₹1,299.00 ₹12.99 8
500g ₹5,999.00 ₹12.00 41
1kg ₹11,640.00 ₹11.64 83
Oil per 8% candle: ₹155.88 at 100 g, ₹139.68 at 1 kg. Buy Amber Oud Royal

What no catalogue supplier can sell you

You can buy the same Raat Ki Rani as your competitor. You cannot buy the same candle.

A premium brand's instinct is to look for an oil nobody else has. From a catalogue supplier, including CSI, that oil does not exist: every listing here can be bought by anyone with a card. That is not a reason to buy elsewhere; it is a reason to understand where distinctiveness really comes from in a candle. In our judgement, it comes from five things you control: a blend of two or three oils in your own ratio; the load you settle on; the wax and vessel; the name and story; and the consistency of every reorder. A gulab-chandan blend at 6 g and 6 g in a 150 g candle is yours in a way no single bottle can be; the trio blends are worked through in Oud, Rose and Sandalwood Fragrance Oils for Indian Luxury Candles.

When a brand has proved a signature and sells enough of it, a custom compounded oil becomes worth the minimums and the development time. Until then, the fastest route to a distinctive Indian collection is catalogue oils used with intent, documented properly and reordered carefully. A first production order for three proved oils at 500 g each (Raat Ki Rani, Gilli Mitti, White Royal Oud) is ₹11,918.00, enough for 123 candles at 8%, and 138 g of CSI 464 alongside each costs ₹70.02.

Mistake: paying for a "custom" oil that is a catalogue oil relabelled. Fix: if a supplier offers exclusivity, ask for it in writing, ask what minimum quantity it depends on, and ask for the MSDS and IFRA certificate under your oil's own name. If they cannot provide those, it is not custom.
Launching for Diwali (8 November 2026) or the winter wedding months? Screen this week, prove by early October, and request the MSDS, IFRA certificate and a dispatch date with your first 500 g order. We will confirm stock quantity by size before you commit.
WhatsApp a pre-order check
The CSI principle
Choose a supplier by what it tells you before you pay.
Per-size prices, stock by size, a stated candle load and documents on request are the evidence. A supplier who cannot show them is asking you to pay for the evidence yourself, in failed candles.
"A premium Indian candle is not made from a rarer bottle. It is made from an ordinary bottle, tested harder, documented properly and used with intent."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the oils, wax and jars on this page, and does not sell finished candles. This page tells premium brands that our oils are not exclusive, that freight is a real cost of buying from us, that some of our listings carry out-of-date ship dates, and that several of our dearest oils state no candle load.

Every price, pack size and per-gram figure was taken from CSI's live store and verified on 24 September 2026, with out-of-stock oils and sizes (Mogra, Rajnigandha) flagged. Notes, candle loads and IFRA wording are quoted from product pages as the pages' own words; CSI's answers in the supplier-questions table are drawn from that data.

The comparison of sourcing routes, the two-stage sampling method and the view on exclusivity are our judgement; we name no other supplier. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy Indian fragrance oils for candles online in India?
From candle-supply stores that publish per-size prices and candle loads. At CSI, candle-grade Indian oils such as Raat Ki Rani, Gilli Mitti, Sandalwood and British Rose are in the fragrance oils collection, and perfume-grade listings in fine perfume fragrances; bulk quotes and documents are on WhatsApp (+91 7397976926).
Can I buy fragrance oil samples before a bulk order?
Yes. Most CSI candle-grade oils are sold in 15 g, enough to smell and pour one 150 g candle at 8%. Screening eight Indian oils at 15 g costs ₹962.48; proving three at 50 g adds ₹1,238.00.
Do fragrance oil suppliers give IFRA certificates in India?
Ask every supplier. CSI provides MSDS and IFRA documentation on request on WhatsApp. Check that the certificate names the exact oil, states the IFRA amendment and gives a maximum for candles.
Can I use attar in candles instead of fragrance oil?
Attars are made for skin, traditionally in a sandalwood-oil base, and are not formulated or documented for candle wax. Use an attar as a smell reference, and make candles from fragrance oils that state a candle load.
Can I put "inspired by" a brand on my candle label?
Do not. Some CSI listings are named after brands; those are CSI's listing names, the oils are interpretations, and CSI is not affiliated with the brands. Name your candle after its scent or moment, not after anyone else's product.
Is there an exclusive Indian fragrance oil supplier for premium candle brands?
Catalogue suppliers, including CSI, sell the same oils to anyone. Exclusivity usually means a custom compounded oil, with minimum quantities and development time. Until then, distinctiveness comes from your blend, load, vessel, name and consistency.

About this guide: part of CSI's Indian luxury cluster. It covers where a premium candle brand can buy Indian-inspired fragrance oils, how to sample in two stages, which supplier documents to hold, and the questions to ask any supplier. It names no supplier other than CSI, and CSI is not affiliated with any brand named in its own product listings.
