Which Fragrances to Buy · Best 10
Ten scents is where a range stops being a handful of candles and starts needing structure. This list splits ten oils into two lines at two price points — six everyday, four gift — and prices both, from the 15 g test set to a first month of 96 candles.
₹40.64
the difference in average fragrance cost per 200 g candle between the gift line and the everyday line, at 100 g prices · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What are the best 10 fragrance oils to start a candle business? An everyday line of Blue Ocean, Japanese Cherry Blossom, Jasmine, Apple Cinnamon, Woody Oud and Fresh Strawberries, and a gift line of Dark Vanilla, Bergamot Amber, Gilli Mitti and Dark Vanilla Oud. All ten sit in positions 4–16 of CSI's best-selling sort and were in stock at every size on 24 September 2026.

Why split ten fragrances into two lines? Because their costs split. The everyday six average ₹72.80 of oil per 200 g candle at 100 g prices; the gift four average ₹113.44. Selling all ten at one price either overcharges for the first or loses money on the second.

Why doesn't this list include Lavender or British Rose? Those are in the best 5. This ten is built to stand alone and to share nothing with the five, so the two lists together cover 15 of the top 16 oils in the sort. If you already sell the five, these ten are the next layer.

How much does it cost to start with 10 fragrances? Ten 15 g testers cost ₹1,079.98. A first month of 96 candles — 12 of each everyday scent and 6 of each gift scent — comes to ₹27,828.14 with wax, wicks, jars and testers. See the first month.
The short answer
Everyday six: Blue Ocean · Japanese Cherry Blossom · Jasmine · Apple Cinnamon · Woody Oud · Fresh Strawberries. ₹60.42 to ₹80.00 of oil per 200 g candle at 100 g, average ₹72.80.
Gift four: Dark Vanilla · Bergamot Amber · Gilli Mitti · Dark Vanilla Oud. ₹89.60 to ₹143.36 per candle at 100 g, average ₹113.44.
Stock depth: All ten were in stock at 15 g, 50 g, 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg on 24 September 2026, so any of them can be scaled without a size gap.

The grid is the range as a customer meets it: six candles at an entry price and four at a gift price. The everyday row runs from ₹60.42 to ₹80.00 of oil per candle, the gift row from ₹89.60 to ₹143.36. The gap between rows is what the second price point pays for.
Straight answer
What are the best 10 fragrance oils to start a candle business?
Ten scents need structure, so build them as two lines. An everyday line of six Core-tier oils — Blue Ocean, Japanese Cherry Blossom, Jasmine, Apple Cinnamon, Woody Oud and Fresh Strawberries — puts an average of ₹72.80 of fragrance into a 200 g candle at 8% from 100 g bottles. A gift line of four Mid and Premium oils — Dark Vanilla, Bergamot Amber, Gilli Mitti and Dark Vanilla Oud — averages ₹113.44. Price the two lines separately and every candle carries its own cost. All ten sit in positions 4–16 of CSI's best-selling sort on 24 September 2026, all were in stock at every size, and none repeats the best 5. The sort is CSI's only public popularity signal; it is not sales data, so test first. Ten 15 g testers cost ₹1,079.98, and a first month of 96 candles with wax, wicks and jars comes to ₹27,828.14.
One line: six everyday, four gift, two prices — and test all ten before you pour a month.
The ten testers: six everyday oils and four gift oils in 15 g, for ₹1,079.98. That is 150 g of oil — ten 200 g test candles at 7.5%, one per scent, or thirty 50 g test pots at 10% if you want three burns of each.

When ten is the right number

Ten scents is not twice as good as five. It is a different business: one with a shelf, a website grid or a stall wide enough to need a layout.

Five oils suit a maker selling to friends, one market stall or a first online listing. Ten suits a maker who already has a channel that shows many products at once — a stall with two tables, a shop page with a grid, a gifting catalogue — and who can sell enough of each to reorder it. Below that level, ten scents means ten slow-moving stocks and ten small reorders. Which Fragrance Oils Should I Buy to Start a Candle Business? covers how to decide the number; this page assumes you have decided on ten.

Candles to justify a 100 g reorder of each About 6 per scent About 6 per scent — 60 across the range
Main risk Too little choice Stock spread too thin to reorder

The last row is the one to take seriously. A 100 g bottle scents six 200 g candles at 8%. With ten scents, you need to sell around sixty candles before every bottle is used and due for a reorder. If you sell fewer, some bottles sit open for months. That is the argument for splitting the range into lines: you can buy the everyday six in larger quantities and the gift four in smaller ones.

The best-selling sort, used properly
The ten come from positions 4–16 of the Fragrance Oils collection's best-selling sort on 24 September 2026. That sort reflects what CSI's customers — mostly candle makers — have been choosing. CSI publishes no unit sales, so it is a shortlist, not a forecast of what your customers will buy. Which Candle Fragrances Sell Best in India? covers the reasoning side of Indian preferences.

The ten, in two lines

Each line has its own logic. The everyday line covers the requests a customer makes most often — fresh, floral, fruity, warm spice, woody — at a cost that allows an entry price. The gift line carries the richer, deeper scents people buy for someone else: vanilla, amber, earthy patchouli, oud. The per-candle figure is 16 g of oil in a 200 g candle at 8%, priced at 100 g.

Material cost is oil plus 184 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, an Eco Thin C1 wick and a White Matte Glass Jar — a base of ₹186.92. It excludes labour, packaging, freight and GST. The everyday six average ₹259.72 a candle in materials; the gift four average ₹300.36. Two floral oils sit in the everyday line on purpose: Japanese Cherry Blossom reads light and modern, Jasmine reads classic and Indian, and customers tend to treat them as different requests.

Two families from the best 5 look absent — plain citrus and a pure herbal like Lavender. Blue Ocean covers the fresh request, and Bergamot Amber puts citrus into the gift line with a warmer base. If your customers ask for a bright lemon or a lavender specifically, the best 5 has them. Together, the two lists cover 15 of the first 16 oils in the sort; only Eucalyptus Spearmint (14th) sits in neither.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. Four of the ten cost more than the others, and we sell more when makers buy them. But a new brand should not launch the gift line first. The everyday six are where most repeat customers will come from, and they are the cheaper place to learn your wick and wax. Launch the everyday line, add the gift line when a customer asks for a present.

Four to know well

Every oil in the ten deserves its own test candle. These four are the ones whose pricing or role most affects how the range works.

1
Everyday · fresh · 5th in the sort
Blue Ocean Fragrance Oil
The fresh slot in the everyday line: an aquatic, clean scent that sells for bathrooms, bedrooms and summer. It is priced almost perfectly flat from 50 g to 1 kg, ₹4.94 to ₹4.96 a gram, so a small maker loses nothing by buying 50 g or 100 g at a time.

Japanese Cherry Blossom Fragrance Oil
The dearest oil in the everyday line at ₹80.00 a candle, and the one that gives the range a modern floral. The step from 15 g to 100 g is large (₹6.93 to ₹5.00 a gram), so once it passes testing, move it to 100 g quickly.

Bergamot Amber Fragrance Oil
The lightest oil in the gift line, and the bridge between the two: bright on top, warm underneath. At ₹89.60 a candle it could sit in either line. Put it in the gift line if your everyday line needs to stay at one price; move it down if your gift line is carrying too many dark scents.

Dark Vanilla Oud Fragrance Oil
Vanilla and oud together, and the most useful gift oil for festive and men's gifting. It costs less than Dark Vanilla on its own (₹94.40 against ₹126.40 a candle at 100 g), which makes it the better-value way to put a dark, rich scent in the range.

Pricing two lines

One selling price across ten scents is simple to print and expensive to keep. Two prices match what the candles cost to make.

Take the dearest oil in each line and it sets the floor for that line's price. In the everyday line that is Japanese Cherry Blossom at ₹266.92 of materials per candle; in the gift line it is Gilli Mitti at ₹330.28. If you sold all ten at one price set by the everyday line, every Gilli Mitti candle would carry ₹63.36 more material cost than the dearest everyday candle. If you set the single price by the gift line, your everyday candles are overpriced for what they are.

Material cost per 200 g candle · oil at 100 g · base ₹186.92
What each line has to recover
Line Cheapest Dearest Average Spread inside the line
Everyday six Fresh Strawberries ₹247.33 Japanese Cherry Blossom ₹266.92 ₹259.72 ₹19.58
Gift four Bergamot Amber ₹276.52 Gilli Mitti ₹330.28 ₹300.36 ₹53.76

Inside each line the spread is small enough to carry at one price. Between the lines it is not. The gap in average material cost is ₹40.64 a candle, all of it fragrance. Many brands also give the gift line a different jar or a larger fill so the price difference is visible to the customer, not only to your costing. If you do that, re-run the per-candle maths with the new jar and weight. Best Fragrance Oils for a Premium Candle Brand goes further into pricing a premium line.

The quiet loss-maker. A maker launches ten scents at one price, sells more of the dark gift scents than expected at the festive season, and finds the busiest month was the least profitable. It was not the volume; it was the mix. Split the price before the season, not after it.

The first month, priced

Here is a first production month after testing. The everyday six get 12 candles each and the gift four get 6 each: 96 candles. Everyday scents need 192 g of oil each, and with a 3% working allowance for pour loss (an assumption, not a rule) that is 197.76 g, covered by two 100 g bottles. Gift scents need 96 g each, 98.88 g with the allowance, covered by one 100 g bottle.

Growing past ten

The two-line structure scales. When the range grows, add oils to a line rather than creating a third price point too early: a second fresh in the everyday line, a smoky or resinous scent in the gift line. The best 20 fragrance oils for a candle business shows a range organised into four tiers, which is where most brands end up once they have both a shop and a gifting business.

Growing past ten also changes how you buy. Twenty scents at 100 g each is a lot of open bottles. Which Candle Fragrance Oils Should I Always Keep in Stock? sets out which oils to hold as core stock at 1 kg and which to keep small, and I Have ₹10,000 to Build My Candle Fragrance Collection — Should I Buy More Scents in Small Quantities or Fewer Scents in Bulk? works through a ₹10,000 budget spent on breadth versus depth.

The CSI principle
Two lines, two prices, one range.
Ten scents at one price is a list. Ten scents in two lines at two prices is a range the customer can read in a glance and you can cost without guessing. Group the oils by what they cost you before you group them by anything else.
Six candles at ₹259.72 and four at ₹300.36 are two businesses sharing one shelf. Price them that way.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. This page recommends launching the cheaper everyday line before the gift line, which is not the order that sells us the most oil. It is the order in which a new brand learns fastest for the least money.

Every oil and wax price on this page comes from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026. Sort positions and stock status are as listed on that date; CSI publishes no unit sales and the sort is used only as a shortlist. Wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Per-gram and per-candle figures are plain arithmetic on the listed prices.

The two-line split, the 12-and-6 first month and the 3% working allowance are working assumptions for illustration. Your channels decide how many candles each scent needs. For a quote on the ten, stock checks, GST invoicing, MSDS and IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

What are the top 10 fragrance oils for candle making?
For a starting business, a balanced ten from CSI's catalogue is Blue Ocean, Japanese Cherry Blossom, Jasmine, Apple Cinnamon, Woody Oud and Fresh Strawberries (everyday), plus Dark Vanilla, Bergamot Amber, Gilli Mitti and Dark Vanilla Oud (gift). All ten sit in positions 4–16 of the best-selling sort. It is a starting range, not a sales ranking.
How much do 10 candle fragrance oils cost?
As 15 g testers, ₹1,079.98 for all ten. As 100 g bottles, ₹5,566.08 for one of each. Sixteen 100 g bottles for a 96-candle first month cost ₹8,296.16.
Should all my candle scents be the same price?
Not when their costs differ this much. In this ten, oil per 200 g candle runs from ₹60.42 to ₹143.36 at 100 g prices. Group them into an everyday and a gift line and price each line on its dearest oil.
Is 10 fragrances too many for a new candle business?
It can be. Each 100 g bottle scents about six 200 g candles, so ten scents need about sixty sales before every bottle is used. If you are not yet selling that many, start with five and add the rest later.
Which fragrance oils are best for gift candles?
In this list, Dark Vanilla, Bergamot Amber, Gilli Mitti and Dark Vanilla Oud, averaging ₹113.44 of oil per 200 g candle. Best Candle Fragrances for Corporate Gifting and Best Fragrance Oils for a Premium Candle Brand cover gifting and premium ranges in more depth.
Can I buy all 10 fragrances in 1 kg?
All ten were in stock at 1 kg on 24 September 2026, but ten kilos scent 625 candles at 8%. Buy the kilo only of the scents you are reordering most often. For Jasmine and Fresh Strawberries the kilo is also cheaper per gram (8.8% and 6.3%); for most of the others it is priced almost flat.
