Commercial Fragrance · 1 kg for Wax Melts
A kilo of fragrance oil is a thousand illustrative 10 g melts at a 10% load — a lot of melts of one scent. For a few oils it is also genuinely cheaper per gram. For most, it is the same price per gram as the 100 g. Here is how to tell which kilo is worth buying, and when.
1,000
illustrative 10 g wax melts from one 1 kg of fragrance oil at a 10% load, with 9 kg of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks · 769.23 at the 13% ceiling · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How many wax melts does 1 kg of fragrance oil make? At an illustrative 10 g melt: 1,666.67 at 6%, 1,250 at 8%, 1,000 at 10%, 833.33 at 12% and 769.23 at 13% (the ceiling on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks). On CSI 464 the ceiling is 10%, so 1,000 is its minimum count.

How much wax do I need with 1 kg of fragrance oil? At 10%, 9 kg. At 13%, 6.692 kg. At 8%, 11.5 kg. The kilo of oil is always the smaller half of the order.

Is 1 kg fragrance oil cheaper than 100 g? For most oils, no — 52 of 91 are within 1% per gram. Some save a lot (Honeydew Melon 22.0%, Ylang Ylang Flower and Pumpkin Spice 10.0%), and a few cost fractionally more at 1 kg (Love Spell and Pomegranate Splash, −0.2%).

When should a melt business buy a 1 kg pack? When that scent sells fast enough to use a kilo in a few months — for example 50 packs of six a month uses a kilo in 3.33 months at 10% — or when the kilo is one of the 24 oils with a real saving. When to buy has the table.
The short answer
Melts per kilo: 10 g melts: 1,250 (8%) · 1,000 (10%) · 833.33 (12%) · 769.23 (13%, Chunks ceiling). Wax: 11.5 kg · 9 kg · 7.333 kg · 6.692 kg.
Kilo vs 100 g: Ten 100 g vs one 1 kg: Ylang Ylang Flower and Pumpkin Spice save ₹590.00; Lavender ₹179.00; Love Spell and Pomegranate Splash cost ₹9.00 more at 1 kg.
One kilo run: Pumpkin Spice 1 kg ₹5,310.00 + 9 kg Chunks (₹5,391.00) = ₹10,701.00 for 1,000 melts at 10% — ₹10.70 per melt.
One kilo of fragrance oil, counted in wax melts Illustrative 10 g melts. Melts per kilo = 1,000 g ÷ oil per melt. The wax it needs grows as the load falls. 6% load 1,667 melts · 15.67 kg wax 8% load 1,250 melts · 11.50 kg wax 10% load 1,000 melts · 9.00 kg wax 12% load 833 melts · 7.33 kg wax 13% load 769 melts · 6.69 kg wax 13% is the stated ceiling on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks; CSI 464 stops at 10%. No bar goes past 13%.
Lower loads stretch a kilo of oil across more melts but need much more wax: 11.5 kg at 8% against 6.692 kg at 13%. The 10 g melt is illustrative — CSI does not publish cavity weights, so weigh one filled cavity of your mould and rescale.
Straight answer
Should I buy 1 kg of fragrance oil for commercial wax melts?
Buy the kilo when the scent will use it. At an illustrative 10 g melt, 1 kg of oil makes 1,000 melts at 10% and needs 9 kg of wax; at the 13% ceiling on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks it makes 769.23 and needs 6.692 kg. (CSI 464's ceiling is 10%; CSI does not list a wax sold specifically for melts.) Price is rarely the reason: for 52 of 91 oils the kilo costs within 1% per gram of the 100 g, and a few — Love Spell and Pomegranate Splash — cost fractionally more at 1 kg. The exceptions are real, though: Ylang Ylang Flower and Pumpkin Spice save ₹590.00 against ten 100 g bottles, and Honeydew Melon saves 22.0%. So buy a kilo of a scent that is proven and selling — roughly fifty packs of six a month uses it in 3.33 months — or of an oil where the kilo genuinely saves. Otherwise the 100 g costs the same and keeps your cash free. Check the kilo is in stock before planning: 73 oils have one on the pull date.
One line: a kilo is 1,000 melts at 10% — buy it when you can sell 1,000 melts of that scent, not because it looks cheaper.
For a festive melt run, Pumpkin Spice 1 kg at ₹5,310.00 is ₹5.31/g against ₹5.90/g at 100 g — a real 10.0% saving. At 10% it scents 1,000 illustrative 10 g melts with 9 kg of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (₹5,391.00 as a 5 kg bag and four 1 kg bags).

A kilo, counted in melts

A kilo feels like a bottle. Counted in melts, it is a season's stock of one scent.

Load is a share of the finished melt weight, so the oil in each illustrative 10 g melt is 10 g × load, and the melts in a kilo are 1,000 g divided by that. The wax is the other side of the same sum: every melt that holds 1.0 g of oil holds 9.0 g of wax. The table gives the full picture for a kilo at every load up to the ceiling on Chunks.

Per 1 kg of fragrance oil · illustrative 10 g melts · ceilings: Chunks 13%, CSI 464 10%
What one kilo of oil becomes
Load Oil per melt Melts Packs of six Wax needed Chunks bags Allowed on
6% 0.6 g 1,666.67 277.78 15.667 kg 3.13 × 5 kg bags Chunks or CSI 464
8% 0.8 g 1,250.00 208.33 11.500 kg 2.30 × 5 kg bags Chunks or CSI 464
10% 1.0 g 1,000.00 166.67 9.000 kg 1.80 × 5 kg bags Chunks or CSI 464
12% 1.2 g 833.33 138.89 7.333 kg 1.47 × 5 kg bags Chunks only
13% 1.3 g 769.23 128.21 6.692 kg 1.34 × 5 kg bags Chunks only

Two things to notice. First, the load changes the melt count a lot: the same kilo is 1,250 melts at 8% or 769.23 at 13%. If your load ladder shows a scent performs as well at 9% as at 13% — Best Fragrance Load for Strong Wax Melts shows how to find out — the kilo goes about 44% further. Second, the wax order is always the bigger one. A kilo of oil at 10% commits you to 9 kg of wax, which at ₹599.00 a kilo is ₹5,391.00 of Chunks — more than many kilos of oil cost.

If your melts are not 10 g, divide instead of reading the table. A kilo at 10% makes 2,000 illustrative 5 g melts or 500 illustrative 20 g melts. CSI does not publish the cavity weight of any mould, so weigh one filled cavity first. How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Wax Melts? has the per-melt grams for other sizes.

The kilo you open is the kilo you must finish
Once a kilo is opened it is working stock. Plan to use it within a period you are comfortable with and store it sealed, cool and out of sunlight in the meantime. No shelf life is published in our data for any oil — ask CSI on WhatsApp if you need a figure for a particular oil.

Which kilos are actually cheaper

This is the part most kilo guides skip. On CSI's listed prices, the kilo is mostly not a discount: of 91 oils listing both sizes, 52 are within 1% per gram of the 100 g, and only 24 save 5% or more. A few cost fractionally more. The table compares ten 100 g bottles with one kilo for nine oils, both ways:

Ten 100 g bottles vs one 1 kg · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026
Kilo against ten 100 g bottles, same oil
Oil 100 g Ten × 100 g 1 kg Kilo saves Per-gram saving
Honeydew Melon ₹435.42 ₹4,354.20 ₹3,398.40 ₹955.80 22.0%
Ylang Ylang Flower ₹590.00 ₹5,900.00 ₹5,310.00 ₹590.00 10.0%
Pumpkin Spice ₹590.00 ₹5,900.00 ₹5,310.00 ₹590.00 10.0%
Fresh Strawberries ₹377.60 ₹3,776.00 ₹3,540.00 ₹236.00 6.3%
Cinnamon Vanilla ₹483.80 ₹4,838.00 ₹4,554.80 ₹283.20 5.9%
Lavender ₹540.00 ₹5,400.00 ₹5,221.00 ₹179.00 3.3%
Dark Vanilla ₹790.00 ₹7,900.00 ₹7,646.00 ₹254.00 3.2%
Love Spell ₹449.00 ₹4,490.00 ₹4,499.00 -₹9.00 -0.2%
Pomegranate Splash ₹399.00 ₹3,990.00 ₹3,999.00 -₹9.00 -0.2%

Read the fifth column in melts. Ylang Ylang Flower and Pumpkin Spice save ₹590.00 per kilo — 59 paise on every illustrative melt at 10%. Lavender saves ₹179.00; Dark Vanilla ₹254.00. Love Spell and Pomegranate Splash cost ₹9.00 more as a kilo than as ten 100 g bottles. For those two, the kilo is purely a convenience purchase, and that is fine — as long as you know it.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell more kilos if we let you assume every kilo was a bargain. On our own prices most are not, and two cost slightly more. If a scent is not yet selling, ten 100 g bottles bought as you need them cost the same as the kilo, leave your money free, and never leave you holding 800 g of a scent nobody reorders. Buy the kilo for stock security or a real saving — not by habit.

When a kilo makes sense

The kilo question is really a speed question: how fast does this one scent sell?

At 10%, a kilo is 1,000 illustrative melts, or about 166 packs of six. Divide that by how many packs of this scent you sell a month and you know how long the kilo sits open. The thresholds in the last column are working judgements, not rules — your storage, cash and confidence in the scent matter too.

One 1 kg at 10% = 1,000 illustrative 10 g melts · packs of six
How long a kilo lasts at your sales rate
Packs of this scent per month Melts per month Months to use a kilo Working judgement
10 60 16.67 Kilo sits too long — stay at 100 g
25 150 6.67 Kilo sits too long — stay at 100 g
50 300 3.33 Kilo reasonable
100 600 1.67 Kilo reasonable
170 1,020 0.98 Kilo or a quote
1
Prove the scent in 100 g firstA scent earns its kilo by selling. Until it has two or three months of steady sales, stay at 100 g — same price per gram for most oils.
2
Check whether this oil has a real kilo savingIf it is one of the 24 with a saving of 5% or more — Honeydew Melon, Mango Coconut, Verbena, Roasted Coconut, Ylang Ylang Flower, Pumpkin Spice and others — the kilo also saves money. If not, it saves reorders only.
3
Check the kilo is in stock73 oils have an in-stock 1 kg on the pull date. Some popular oils do not: Vetiver's and Freshwater (BBW Inspired)'s kilos were out of stock. Never plan a run around a kilo you cannot add to the cart.
4
Order the wax with itNine kilos of wax per kilo of oil at 10%. Chunks are ₹599.00 a kilo at 1 kg and 5 kg; the 10 kg bag is ₹5,999.00, fractionally dearer per kilo.
5
Ask for documents with the kiloA kilo usually means you are selling seriously. Ask for the GST invoice and the oil's IFRA and MSDS documentation on WhatsApp at the time of ordering.

For several kilos of one oil, or a kilo of each of several oils in one order, the listed packs stop being the whole story. Wholesale Fragrance Oils for Wax Melt Businesses covers how to ask for a quote, and Bulk Fragrance Oils for Wax Melt Manufacturers turns kilos into a production plan per bag of wax.

A one-kilo production run, priced

Here is what one kilo of oil becomes as a finished run: 1,000 illustrative 10 g melts at 10% on Chunks. Wax is bought as one 5 kg bag and four 1 kg bags (9 kg at ₹599.00 a kilo). Containers are shown separately because CSI does not publish their fill weight.

Kilo vs ten 100 g saves ₹955.80 saves ₹590.00 costs ₹9.00 more

The three runs show all three kilo situations. Honeydew Melon's kilo saves ₹955.80 on the run — 96 paise a melt — and makes the cheapest melt of the three at ₹8.79. Pumpkin Spice's saves ₹590.00, or 59 paise a melt. Pomegranate Splash's costs ₹9.00 more than ten 100 g bottles: buy it for convenience, not price. Labour, labels, freight and GST are extra in every case. If you pour at 13% instead of 10% (allowed on Chunks, never above), the same kilo makes 769.23 melts and each melt costs more; Best Fragrance Load for Strong Wax Melts helps you decide whether it is worth it.

Handling a kilo well

A kilo is a bigger commitment than a 100 g bottle, and a little discipline protects it. Decant a working quantity into a smaller, clean, labelled container for daily pours so the main bottle is opened less often. Keep the main bottle sealed, cool and out of direct sunlight. Record the date you opened it and each batch poured from it on your batch sheet, so a question about one batch can be traced to one bottle.

Weigh every pour from the kilo — never tip from the big bottle by eye. At 10% in a 10 g melt, an extra 0.2 g per melt is a 20% overpour, and across a kilo that is 200 g of oil you paid for and did not plan to use. A Candle Making Weighing Scale (₹354.00) pays for itself in the first kilo.

The kilo that runs out mid-season. The opposite mistake is buying a kilo of a best seller in September and discovering in October that it will not last to Diwali. Use the months-to-use table in reverse: if your festive sales rate is 170 packs a month, a kilo lasts under six weeks. Order the second kilo — or ask for a quote on several — before the first is half gone.
The CSI principle
Buy the kilo for the melts you will sell, not for the price you hope for.
For most oils the kilo is the same price per gram as the 100 g. Where it is cheaper, the saving is named and real. Either way, a kilo is a thousand melts at 10% — buy it when you can sell them.
A kilo of oil is a thousand melts. Ask whether you can sell a thousand melts of that scent before you ask what the kilo costs.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished melts. A page about buying a kilo is where a supplier would normally say the kilo is the smart buy. On our listings it usually costs the same per gram as the 100 g, and for two oils here it costs fractionally more. This page names both kinds.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live listings pulled on 24 September 2026; melt containers from the 24–25 September 2026 pull; the weighing scale is Blog 760's figure verified on 10 September 2026. Out-of-stock kilos are flagged. Melts per kilo, wax per kilo, run totals and comparisons are arithmetic on those prices and the load formula, shown to two decimals.

The 10 g melt, six-melt pack and the months-to-use judgements are illustrative working assumptions — CSI does not publish cavity weights, container fill weights or oil shelf lives. The 13% (Chunks) and 10% (CSI 464) ceilings are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits. For kilo stock, quotes beyond the listed packs, IFRA certificates or MSDS, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.
