CSI Wick Buying · Attribution
A bigger wick can make almost any candle reach the glass, which is why it proves nothing. Reproduce the fault, change one part per arm, and buy a new wick only if the gap follows the fragrance.
₹660.80
the kit order if oil, wax and jars come from stock: fresh C2 10-pack, 3 centering packs, Eucalyptus Spearmint 50 g · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I know the fragrance is the reason a candle needs a different wick? Reproduce the failure, then change one thing at a time in the same pour: swap only the oil, only the wick pack, only the jar lot. If the gap follows the oil, it is the fragrance; if it follows the pack or the jar, a bigger wick would only hide the real cause.

What does the kit look like? Twelve candles in your jar, three per cell: a control (failing oil, suspect wick pack, suspect jars), an oil arm (a light oil that passes, same pack and jars), a wick-pack arm (fresh C2 pack) and a jar arm (jars from your approved lot). Wax from one bag; every wick centred with a Wick Centering Device.

What does it cost? In the worked example, ₹2,575.12 of materials before jars. If oil, wax and jars come from stock, the cash order is a fresh C2 10-pack, three centering packs and a 50 g Eucalyptus Spearmint: ₹660.80. From nothing, ₹4,397.80.

Isn't it cheaper to just try a bigger wick? Yes: a Cotton Braided 10-pack and three candles is ₹815.28. Do that when only the oil changed. Run the kit when something else changed too (a new jar delivery, a new wick pack, a new wax bag), or when several products share the suspect part.
The short answer
Method: reproduce the fault in a control cell, then one arm per suspect, each changing a single variable back to a known-good part.
Buy: fresh Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40) + Wick Centering Device × 3 (₹354.00) + Eucalyptus Spearmint 50 g (₹212.40) = ₹660.80, with oil, wax and jars from stock.
Read: compare each arm with the control at burn 3 and through full life; spread inside a cell means manufacturing variation, not chemistry.
Then buy: oil explains it → a wick ladder for that oil; pack → quarantine and QC, no new size; jar → measure lots; process → buy nothing.
One order, one pour, one variable per arm Worked example: your 200 g jar, CSI 464 at 8%, house wick Eco C2. Dark Vanilla tunnels; your other oils pass. The control reproduces the failure; each arm puts back ONE known-good part. Three candles per cell, all centred. CONTROL · the fault Dark Vanilla · C2 pack A (suspect) jar lot A (suspect, 8.4 cm inside) one wax bag · centred · same pour 3 candles · ₹687.60 OIL ARM Changes: the oil only Eucalyptus Spearmint · pack A jar lot A 3 candles · ₹512.31 WICK-PACK ARM Changes: the wick pack only Dark Vanilla · C2 pack B (fresh) jar lot A 3 candles · ₹687.60 JAR ARM Changes: the jar lot only Dark Vanilla · pack A jar lot B (approved, 8.0 cm inside) 3 candles · ₹687.60 WAX ARM (optional) Changes: the wax bag only only if your wax lot changed Dark Vanilla · pack A · lot A 3 candles · ₹687.60 Core kit: 12 candles · 12 C2 (9 from pack A, 3 from a fresh pack) · 144 g Dark Vanilla + 48 g Eucalyptus Spearmint · 2,208 g CSI 464 Materials ₹2,575.12 before jars · read each arm against the control at burn 3 and through full life Spread inside a cell (1 of 3 failing) points at manufacturing: centring, pour, cure, draught. Jar sizes are a labelled worked example: 8.4 cm inside is 55.42 cm² against 50.27 cm² (10.2% more surface). CSI live prices, 1 October 2026; not CSI burn data.
The kit as one control and its arms. The black cell reproduces the failing candle exactly; each white cell puts back one known-good part: a different oil, a fresh wick pack, jars from the approved lot. The dashed wax arm is poured only if your wax bag changed. Every cell is three candles, so spread within a cell can be read as manufacturing variation rather than mistaken for a cause.
Straight answer
How do I determine whether a candle needs a different wick because of fragrance chemistry rather than jar diameter, wax or manufacturing variation?
By testing the suspects against each other in one pour. Make a control cell that reproduces the failure exactly, then add one arm per suspect, each changing a single variable back to a part you know is good. In the worked example, Dark Vanilla tunnels on Eco C2 in your 200 g jar while your other oils pass. The kit is twelve candles: the control (Dark Vanilla, the suspect C2 pack, the suspect jar lot), an oil arm (Eucalyptus Spearmint in the same pack and jars), a wick-pack arm (Dark Vanilla on a fresh C2 pack) and a jar arm (Dark Vanilla in jars from your approved lot), three candles each, from one wax bag, every wick centred. If only the oil arm passes, the gap follows the fragrance and a wick change for that oil is justified. If the fresh pack or the old jars fix it, a bigger wick would have hidden a pack or jar problem that may be affecting every product. If candles within a cell disagree, it is manufacturing variation, and the answer is process, not purchase. Materials: ₹2,575.12 before jars; cash from stock: ₹660.80.
One line: a bigger wick fixes the symptom; the kit tells you whether the fragrance is the cause.
The kit order, if you hold the oil, wax and jars: a fresh Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40), three packs of Wick Centering Devices (₹354.00) and Eucalyptus Spearmint 50 g (₹212.40): ₹660.80. All in stock on 1 October 2026.
Wick Centering Device — ₹118.00 for 5

When you need the kit, and when you don't

If only the oil is new, you already know what changed. Save your candles.

Attribution earns its cost when more than one thing could explain the failure. The worked example is the cluster's 200 g jar: your own, 8.0 cm across the inside on your approved jar lot, filled to 200 g at 8% (16 g of oil + 184 g of CSI 464). CSI does not list a jar at 8 cm. Dark Vanilla was approved on C2 months ago; now, after a new jar delivery and a fresh wick order, its candles tunnel at burn 3. Three things changed at once: the jars, the wick pack and, quite possibly, nothing about the oil at all.

Do you need the attribution kit?
Our judgement, labelled · the kit costs more than a quick up-rung test; use it when the cause is genuinely open
Situation Kit? Instead
A new oil in an approved jar, wax and wick; nothing else changed No Run that oil's own ladder: the lavender-to-oud post
An approved candle starts failing after a new jar delivery, wick pack or wax bag Yes —
Several oils fail at once in the same jar Yes, with the jar and pack arms first —
One oil fails, others pass, and nothing changed Partly: the oil arm and a centring check The oil's ladder if the oil arm confirms it
Candles from the same batch disagree with each other No new parts: a process check Centring, pour temperature, cure, draught

Argued against our own interest: the quick alternative, a Cotton Braided 10-pack and three Dark Vanilla candles on it, is ₹815.28 (₹12.00 a wick, ₹695.28 of candles), against ₹2,575.12 for the kit's twelve. It is the right move when only the oil changed. It is the wrong move when the jars did, because it buries a jar-lot problem under a bigger wick: move a whole 300-candle month to Cotton Braided to mask it and you pay ₹768.00 more a month in wicks for a fault that sits in the glass. How to organise jar effects and fragrance effects across a whole launch, with anchor rows and columns, is the three-jar, eight-fragrance post; this page is the one-order version for a single failing candle.

Three details matter more than they look. The wax comes from one bag, so wax is held constant across every cell; CSI publishes no lot data, so if you are buying fresh wax, buy a single 5 kg bag (flat per gram with the 1 kg, so it costs nothing extra per gram) rather than three separate 1 kg bags. The suspect pack A must have nine wicks left; production packs of 50 or 100 usually do. And the seven unused wicks of pack B stay sealed and labelled with the purchase date, because if the pack arm turns out to explain the gap, those are your evidence.

The optional wax arm adds three Dark Vanilla candles: three more wicks from pack A, 48 g more oil (two 100 g bottles, ₹1,580.00, cover all twelve Dark Vanilla candles with 8 g left) and 552 g from the second wax bag: ₹687.60 more in materials. Pour it only if a new wax bag is among the things that changed.

Measure the two jar lots before you pour
Inside diameter at the rim, the middle and near the base on three jars from each lot. In the worked example, the new lot reads 8.4 cm inside against the approved 8.0 cm: 55.42 cm² of pool against 50.27 cm², 10.2% more surface, enough to tip a borderline wick into a tunnel. Outside dimensions can hide this: an 8 cm outside figure on a 0.35 cm wall would be only 41.85 cm². Why the inside figure is the one that counts is the external-versus-internal diameter post; when a supplier's lot changes inside but not outside is the changed-internal-diameter post.

The four cells and what each one rules in or out

Each arm asks one question. The control makes sure the question is fair.
Cells · what changes · what a difference from the control would mean
Three candles per cell · read at burn 3 and through full life · our judgement, labelled
Cell Oil Wick Jars If it passes while the control fails… Materials
Control Dark Vanilla C2, pack A lot A — (it must reproduce the fault, or the kit has nothing to explain) ₹687.60
Oil arm Eucalyptus Spearmint C2, pack A lot A the oil is a factor: fragrance chemistry ₹512.31
Wick-pack arm Dark Vanilla C2, pack B lot A pack A is a factor: wick lot or storage ₹687.60
Jar arm Dark Vanilla C2, pack A lot B the jar lot is a factor: diameter, wall or base ₹687.60
Wax arm (optional) Dark Vanilla C2, pack A lot A, second wax bag the wax lot is a factor ₹687.60

Read the oil arm carefully. If Eucalyptus Spearmint also tunnels in the suspect pack and jars, the oil is not the explanation: something in the setup has changed for every oil. If it passes while Dark Vanilla fails, the oil matters in this setup, but check the jar and pack arms before concluding it is the only factor: a wider jar can push a heavy oil over the edge that a light oil still clears. Vanillin-rich and dark gourmand oils are commonly linked to wanting more wick: a tendency the oil arm tests rather than assumes.

Manufacturing variation is not an arm of its own; it is read from the spread inside every cell. Three candles that agree mean the cell's result is about its parts. One of three failing means something varied between candles: a wick off centre, an air pocket, a draught on one side of the table. That is why every wick is held by its own centring device while the wax sets, and why a split cell is re-poured rather than interpreted. A draught test that separates room effects from wick effects is the ceiling-fan post; if a wick leans in the set candle, centring comes before any purchase (the leaning-wick post).

Mistake: running the arms in different weeks with different wax bags "because that's when the jars arrived". Why it fails: every difference between pours becomes another suspect, and the kit can no longer separate them. Fix: one session, one bag, one room, one cure, labelled bases. If you cannot pour every cell together, pour a control in each session so each arm has its own comparison.

Running it: one pour, one bag, one room

The kit only attributes what you kept constant.
1
Label everything firstBases K-1 to K-3, O-1…, W-1…, J-1…; wick packs A and B with purchase dates; jar lots A and B with their measured inside diameters.
2
Melt one bag, split one pot per oil2,208 g of CSI 464 from one bag; Dark Vanilla for nine candles (144 g) in one pot, Eucalyptus Spearmint for three (48 g) in another, each at 8%. CSI 464's page states "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C"; if your jar states a lower hot-pour limit, the lower figure governs.
3
Centre every wick the same wayOne centring device per jar until the wax sets. Note any wick that ends up off centre in the set candle; it disqualifies that candle, not the cell.
4
Cure togetherBoth oil pages say 48–72 hours for soy before burn testing; many makers wait about a week. Same shelf, same room.
5
Burn in matched sessionsAbout 3.2 hours to a full first pool on a very rough hour-per-2.5 cm rule of thumb, so 3–4 hour sessions; still air; trimmed to about 5–6 mm; ring width at N, E, S and W each hour.
6
Read at burn 3, confirm on full lifeBurn 3 tells you which arm differs; the full life confirms that the passing configuration really passes. No production purchase on a burn-3 reading.

Twelve candles in matched sessions is a lot of burning. If you are short of time, the cells can be screened at burn 3 and only the deciding cells (the control and whichever arm differed) taken to full life. Separating a three-arm attribution for soot rather than tunnelling, so a label or load problem doesn't trigger a wick purchase, is the soot-attribution post.

Which variable explains the gap, and what to buy next

Every row of this table ends in a different order. Only one of them is a bigger wick.
Decision table · which variable explains the gap → what to buy next

Control fails; oil arm passes; wick and jar arms fail Fragrance chemistry A ladder for Dark Vanilla: Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹120.00), three candles to full life; or a lower load inside the page's 6–10% A bigger wick for the other oils
Control fails; wick-pack arm passes The wick pack Nothing in a new size. Quarantine pack A, keep pack B's spares sealed, run incoming checks; tell us Cotton Braided "to be safe"
Control fails; jar arm passes The jar lot Measure every new lot; re-bracket the wick for the new jar only if you keep it (the 5 mm-wider post) A range-wide wick change for one delivery
Control fails; all arms fail, including the light oil Something common: wax bag, room or process The optional wax arm; a draught and centring check Anything until the common cause is found
Candles within cells disagree Manufacturing variation Nothing: fix centring, pour temperature, cure and draughts, then re-pour Any wick
The control passes this time The original failure was a one-off or a process fault Nothing; keep retained candles and watch the next batch Any wick
Two arms each pass (e.g. old jars and the light oil) Interaction: a heavy oil in a wider jar Choose: go back to the approved jar lot, or ladder Dark Vanilla in the new jar A size change for oils that pass

The last row is the most common real answer: the heavy oil and the wider jar together, neither alone. The kit's value is that it shows you the choice instead of making it for you. If you keep the wider jars, each oil's wick is a question again, which is the new-jar post; if you go back to the approved lot, nothing needs buying. And if the gap follows the wick pack, the measurements to record on any wick delivery are the incoming-QC post, and keeping retained wicks from each lot is the retained-wicks post.

Don't buy the bigger wick yet: not even the ₹120.00 Cotton Braided 10-pack, until the oil arm says the oil is the reason. Argued against our own interest: four of the seven outcomes above end in no wick purchase at all, one of them in a conversation with us about a pack. A wick that fixes the symptom while the jar or pack problem stays is the most expensive wick in your factory.

For the oil-is-the-cause outcome, the purchase is small and bounded. Cotton Braided costs ₹2.56 more per candle than C2 and is ₹12.00 a wick in every pack, so the 10-pack covers the three-candle confirm with seven spare. The cluster's planning view, expect one or two wick builds across a range and buy for two, is the cluster hub.

Whatever the kit points to, production quantities come only after the full-life pass, by the series formula: candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance), from the series hub. Worked example: if Dark Vanilla moves to Cotton Braided at 60 candles a month with a 5% allowance, that is 63 wicks a month, covered by a 50-pack and two 10-packs (₹840.00), at the same ₹12.00 a wick as the 10-pack. If the cause was the pack, the jar or the process, your existing C2 order simply continues; CSI does not publish lead times or stock depth, so confirm dispatch on WhatsApp before a big run.

What to buy, and what to skip

Four items, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance or lot data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 16 g per 200 g candle and 12 g per standard 150 g candle.

oil · the known-good swap for the oil arm
Eucalyptus Spearmint Fragrance Oil
The oil arm needs an oil that passes on C2 in your approved setup and carries nothing heavy: a fresh herbal with "No vanillin - zero risk of discoloration" on its page (the page's claim; vanillin is one cause of colour change, not the only one). The page states "Recommended fragrance load up to 10% for soy wax, up to 6% for paraffin", "Cure time is 48-72 hours for soy wax" and calls the throw "Moderate to strong". Every size is in stock on 1 October 2026. Limitation: it only works as the swap if it has passed on C2 in your jar before; otherwise use whichever light oil has.

Wick Centering Device (Pack of 5)
An off-centre wick fakes a tunnel, and a tunnel is the very symptom you are trying to attribute. The page describes a wooden holder, "Length 4.4" (11,4 cm)", with one "Hole Dia 0,15" (4mm)", for openings "less than 4"" (about 10 cm), so it spans an 8 cm jar. One hole means one wick per holder. ₹23.60 each, reusable. Argued against our own interest: two pencils and a peg also hold a wick; what matters is that every kit candle is held the same way.

Dark Vanilla Fragrance
The worked example's failing oil. The page lists "rich vanilla and spice opening into deep caramel and cream, settling into dark amber and warm musk", states "candles (6-10%)", notes "Vanillin present - note for light-coloured wax", and says to "cure soy wax candles for at least 48-72 hours before burn testing". Vanillin-rich and dark gourmand oils are commonly linked to wanting a wick step up: a tendency, which is exactly why the kit tests it rather than assuming it. Every size is in stock on 1 October 2026. Limitation: CSI has no measured wick data for this or any oil.

The CSI principle
Find the cause before you buy the cure.
Reproduce the fault, change one thing per arm, read the spread inside each cell. Only a gap that follows the oil earns a new wick for that oil.
"A bigger wick can make almost any candle reach the glass. That is exactly why it proves nothing."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, fixtures, oils and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you that a new oil alone needs no kit, that most outcomes of the kit end in no wick purchase, and that a centring fixture can be two pencils and a peg.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size; every size shown is in stock on that date (the Eco C1 10-pack, not used here, is out of stock). Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so. CSI publishes no wick specifications, lot data or measured wick performance.

The failure scenario, the 8.0 and 8.4 cm jar measurements, the cell design, the read-out thresholds, the 300-candle month and the 0.35 cm wall are our judgement or worked examples; melt-pool times are commonly cited rules of thumb. Frequently asked questions

Why does my candle suddenly tunnel when it used to burn fine?
Something in the build has commonly changed: a new jar delivery with a different inside diameter, a new wick pack, a new wax bag, or how the wicks were centred and poured. Reproduce the fault and change one part at a time before buying a bigger wick.
How can I tell if the fragrance oil is affecting my wick?
Pour the failing oil and a light oil that passes, on wicks from the same pack, in jars from the same lot, wax from one bag. If only the heavy oil fails, the oil is a factor; if both fail, look at the jar, the wick pack or the process.
Can two packs of the same wick burn differently?
It is possible, which is why the kit compares the pack your failing candles came from with a fresh one in the same candle. CSI publishes no wick lot data; if the packs differ, keep both and message us with dates and photos.
Does a slightly wider jar need a bigger wick?
It can. An 8.4 cm inside diameter has 10.2% more pool surface than 8.0 cm, enough to tip a borderline wick into a tunnel, especially with a heavy oil. Measure the inside of every new jar lot.
How many test candles do I need to find the cause of a wick problem?
Three per cell: a control that reproduces the fault plus one arm for each suspect. For oil, wick pack and jar lot that is twelve candles; add three for the wax if your wax bag changed.
Do I need a wick centering tool for test candles?
You need every test wick held the same way, because an off-centre wick fakes a tunnel. CSI's Wick Centering Device is ₹23.60 a holder in packs of five; any method that holds every wick upright and central works.
Find the cause before you buy the cure

About this guide: the capstone of CSI's cluster on fragrance changing the wick (5521–5540): how to tell whether a candle needs a different wick because of its fragrance rather than its jar, wax or manufacturing variation; when the attribution kit is worth running and when a quick up-rung test is enough; the twelve-candle kit (control, oil-swap arm, wick-pack arm, jar arm, optional wax arm) with counts and costs; how to run it in one pour; and a decision table from the result to the next purchase.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Bamboo Wick Holder, Dark Vanilla Fragrance, Eco Candle Wicks, Lavender Fragrance Oil, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles, Premium Candle Wicking Needle. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the wick-purchase advice on this page. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Anonymous, Subhankar Roy, Tina Raha, Thenirvaofficial, Sneha Tamang. The reviews from Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge. Reviews below five stars are included as published, not filtered out.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). The 200 g fill, the 8.0 cm (approved) and 8.4 cm (new lot) inside diameters and the 0.35 cm wall are labelled worked-example assumptions; pool area = π r² on the inside radius. Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%; Dark Vanilla 6–10% in candles; Eucalyptus Spearmint up to 10% for soy): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. The melt-pool time is a commonly cited rule of thumb. The scenario, cell design, read-out rules and volumes are editorial judgement and worked examples. Costs exclude jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
