CSI Wick Buying · Fewer Wick SKUs
Two fragrances share a wick when both have burned to the bottom on it. A seven-candle trial from stock decides it, and the saving from dropping a SKU is real but modest.
₹1,165.62
the seven-candle sharing trial, materials from stock (jars excluded) · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I know two fragrances can safely share one wick? Burn the low-volume oil on the standard wick to the same approval standard the standard oils passed: three candles, full life, in the same jar, wax and load, with one candle of an approved standard oil in the batch as a control. Paper similarity is a reason to trial, never a reason to skip the trial.

What does the trial cost? In the worked example, seven 200 g candles on Eco C2 (three Woody Oud, three Roasted Coffee, one British Rose control) consume ₹1,165.62 of materials from production stock, jars aside. Bought from nothing it is ₹1,610.60.

What do I save by dropping the wick SKU? Moving 40 candles a month from Cotton Braided to C2 saves ₹2.56 a candle, ₹1,228.80 a year, plus about ₹117.76 of stock freed once. The trial repays in about 11.4 months. Going the other way, folding C1 oils up onto C2, costs ₹3.54 a candle more: there, only simplicity pays.

When is a SKU actually dropped? Only when every oil on it passes. If one of two passes, the bin stays, and the saving shrinks to that one oil's candles.
The short answer
Rule: share only on a full-life pass: three candles per low-volume oil on the standard wick, same jar, wax, load and fill, plus one control candle.
Buy: usually nothing (oils, wax and C2 from stock); from nothing, Woody Oud 50 g + Roasted Coffee 50 g + C2 10-pack + 2 kg CSI 464 = ₹1,610.60.
Money: trial ₹1,165.62 against ₹1,228.80 a year (Cotton Braided → C2 at 40 candles a month): about 11.4 months to repay.
Honest limit: the bigger win is one bin and fewer mix-ups; the rupees are modest, and folding C1 into C2 costs money.
One sharing trial, four outcomes, four different purchases Worked example: your 200 g jar (8.0 cm inside), CSI 464 at 8%, house wick Eco C2. Woody Oud (25 a month) and Roasted Coffee (15 a month) were approved on Cotton Braided. Can they share C2? Judged on full life, three candles each. Sharing trial on Eco C2: 7 candles, 7 wicks 3 Woody Oud · 3 Roasted Coffee · 1 British Rose control ₹1,165.62 of materials from stock (jars excluded) Control misbehaves British Rose fails its own approved standard Trial void: fix the batch (centring, pour, wax lot) and re-pour. Buy nothing. Both pass full life Drop Cotton Braided. ₹1,228.80 a year in wicks, plus ₹117.76 of stock freed. Restock: one extra C2 50-pack (₹472.00) One passes Move that oil to C2. Cotton Braided stays for the other. Woody Oud: ₹768.00 a year Coffee: ₹460.80 a year No stock freed: the bin remains. Neither passes Keep Cotton Braided. The extra SKU is earning its place. Leftover trial C2 goes back to stock. Buy nothing. Trial cost against a year of savings if both pass, drawn to scale Trial, from stock ₹1,165.62 Yearly wick saving ₹1,228.80 + stock freed (once) ₹117.76 At 40 low-volume candles a month the trial repays in about 11.4 months; the saving is ₹2.56 a candle. Excludes jars, labour and GST.
One seven-candle trial on the standard wick, and the four ways it can come back. Only one outcome drops the extra wick SKU; one changes nothing; one voids the trial; one moves a single oil and keeps the bin. Bottom: the trial against a year of wick savings if both oils pass, drawn to scale. Worked-example figures at CSI live prices on 1 October 2026, not burn data.
Straight answer
I want to reduce the number of wick SKUs in my factory. How do I determine whether nearby fragrances can safely share one approved wick?
By trialling each low-volume oil on the neighbouring standard wick and holding it to exactly the standard the standard oils passed: three candles, burned to the bottom, in the same jar, wax, load and fill, with one candle of an approved standard oil poured in the same batch as a control. In the worked example, your range runs on Eco C2 in a 200 g jar, while Woody Oud (25 a month) and Roasted Coffee (15 a month) were approved on Cotton Braided, the first wick that passed for them. The trial is seven candles: three of each on C2 and one British Rose control, ₹1,165.62 of materials from stock. If both pass, Cotton Braided leaves the factory: ₹2.56 saved on every one of those candles (₹1,228.80 a year) and about ₹117.76 of stock freed. If either fails, the bin stays. "Nearby" on paper (similar family, similar notes) is a reason to run the trial, never a reason to skip it.
One line: a fragrance shares a wick when it passes on that wick, not when it smells like the ones that did.
The trial needs no new wicks if you hold C2: seven from your house stock. If you hold none, the Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40) covers it with 3 spare. After a pass, one extra C2 50-pack (₹472.00) a month replaces the Cotton Braided. All in stock on 1 October 2026.
Eco C2 — ₹94.40 for 10

The sharing-trial order: seven candles, mostly from stock

The cheapest wick audit you will ever run uses wicks you already own.

The worked example is the cluster's 200 g jar: your own, 8.0 cm across the inside (50.27 cm² of pool; 41.85 cm² if 8 cm is the outside of a 0.35 cm wall), filled to 200 g at 8% (16 g of oil + 184 g of CSI 464). CSI does not list a jar at 8 cm. A factory running this range already holds the oils, the wax and the C2, so the trial is mostly a withdrawal from stock, not a purchase.

Each trial candle costs ₹175.30 (Woody Oud) or ₹162.61 (Roasted Coffee) in materials before the jar. Note the 2 g left in each 50 g bottle: if you are buying the trial oils fresh rather than drawing on stock, there is nothing left for a re-pour, so buy the 100 g if a split cell would need three more candles. Argued against our own interest: if you run these oils, you do not need to buy anything from us for this trial.

Why a control candle
A trial batch can go wrong for reasons that have nothing to do with the oils: a wax lot, a pour temperature, a draughty week. One British Rose candle on C2, poured from the same wax in the same session, should burn exactly as its approval did. If it doesn't, the trial says nothing about Woody Oud or coffee: fix the batch and re-pour.

What "share safely" means in practice

The standard oils earned the wick on a full life. A newcomer earns it the same way, or not at all.

Three conditions, all labelled as our judgement and all the same ones your standard oils already met. First, the build is copied exactly: same jar batch, wax, load (8% of total weight here, inside both oils' "candles (6-10%)" and CSI 464's "Fragrance Load Up to 10%"), fill, cure and session length. Second, three candles per oil, burned to about 1 cm left; a screen at burn 3 can kill a trial early but cannot pass one. Third, the control candle behaves as its approval did.

Pass, fail or void · per low-volume oil on the shared wick
Our judgement, labelled · rules of thumb: full pool in about 3–4 h on the first burn; pool about 0.5–1 cm deep; trimmed flame about 2.5–5 cm
What the three candles show Reading Decision for the SKU
All three reach the glass by burn 3 and finish the full life with no tunnel, drown, soot or heat fault in the final third Pass: shares C2 Move the oil to C2 at the next production run
Ring still 2 mm or more by burn 3, centred wick, still air Under-wicked on C2 Stays on Cotton Braided; stop burning
Carbon build-up or soot that grows through the jar C2 struggling with this oil Stays on Cotton Braided
One or two of three pass Not decided Re-pour three; no SKU change until decided
Control candle off its own standard Batch fault Trial void; re-pour everything

Why heavier oils are the hard case: oud, coffee and other dark or resinous oils are commonly linked to needing more wick or to more carbon on the wick, so stepping them down a rung is where sharing trials usually fail. They are also where the money is, because Cotton Braided is the dearer wick. A full SKU consolidation audit, ranking every wick SKU by use, is the SKU-consolidation post; standing behaviour groups with an admission test are the behaviour-groups post. This page prices one trial.

Mistake: moving a low-volume oil onto the standard wick because "it smells like the others" or "it is only 15 candles a month". Why it fails: wick behaviour follows the oil's burn, not its scent family or its sales. A 15-candle oil that drowns in the final third is 15 complaints a month. Fix: trial first. Low volume makes the trial cheap, not optional. How deep a test candle must go before it counts is the acceptance-depth post.

A first full pool in an 8 cm jar takes about 3.2 hours on a very rough hour-per-2.5 cm rule of thumb, so run sessions of about 3–4 hours, and cure first: both trial oils' pages say 48–72 hours for soy before burn testing. Full life for a 200 g candle is several weeks of sessions; your own grams per hour sets the calendar.

Trial cost against the yearly saving

Dropping a wick SKU saves less than people think, and in one direction it costs money.

Two things change when Cotton Braided leaves. Every one of those candles carries a cheaper wick, ₹2.56 less each. And the Cotton Braided stock you held for them is freed: in the worked example, about 46 wicks on hand on average (half a month of safety stock plus half a 50-pack), worth ₹552.00. But the same candles now draw on C2, so roughly the same number of C2 sit on your shelf instead (₹434.24). The net freed is ₹117.76. Risk pooling can let one combined SKU carry a little less safety stock than two separate ones; at these volumes we ignore it.

Payback by volume · sharing trial at ₹1,165.62
Low-volume candles a month moved to the shared wick · freed stock ignored (conservative) · all figures declared
Candles a month moved Cotton Braided → C2: yearly saving Months to repay the trial C1 → C2 instead: yearly cost
20 ₹614.40 22.8 months ₹849.60 more a year
40 ₹1,228.80 11.4 months ₹1,699.20 more a year
80 ₹2,457.60 5.7 months ₹3,398.40 more a year
150 ₹4,608.00 3.0 months ₹6,372.00 more a year

At the example's 40 candles a month the trial repays in about 11.4 months, or 10.2 counting the freed stock. That is fine, not dramatic. The column on the right is the warning: if the SKU you want to drop is below the standard (oils on C1 moving up to C2), every moved candle costs ₹3.54 more in wicks, and the trial never pays back in rupees. Do that consolidation only for what it really buys you (one fewer bin, fewer mix-ups, simpler buying), and only after the moved oils pass on C2 without running hot.

Don't buy yet: extra C2 for the moved oils before both trial arms finish full life. And don't reorder a Cotton Braided 100-pack (₹1,200.00) while the trial runs: at 40 candles a month it is over two months of stock for a SKU you may be about to drop. Argued against our own interest: your current Cotton Braided covers production during the trial; buy nothing until the candles have answered.

What the table cannot price is the gain that usually justifies the exercise: fewer SKUs mean fewer wrong-wick candles, simpler pour-day picking, and one less reorder point to watch. The whole-business version of this question, dozens of experimental sizes down to three or four, is the rationalisation post.

Four outcomes, four purchases

Every result of the trial changes what you buy next, including the result that changes nothing.
Trial result → next purchase · worked example
Woody Oud 25 + Roasted Coffee 15 candles a month · standard Eco C2 · figures declared
Result What it means Buy next Yearly effect
Both pass full life One wick for the range One extra C2 50-pack a month (₹472.00); stop reordering Cotton Braided ₹1,228.80 saved in wicks; ₹117.76 freed once
Woody Oud passes, coffee fails Cotton Braided stays for 15 candles a month C2 for 25 more candles; a Cotton Braided 10-pack at a time for coffee ₹768.00 saved; the bin remains
Coffee passes, Woody Oud fails Cotton Braided stays for 25 a month C2 for 15 more candles ₹460.80 saved; the bin remains
Neither passes The extra SKU is earning its place Nothing; spare trial C2 back to stock none; you now know
Control fails Batch fault, trial void Nothing; fix the cause and re-pour none yet

A partial pass is still worth having: it moves volume to the cheaper wick even if the bin survives. But it is not consolidation, and it is worth saying so in your records so nobody reorders Cotton Braided at the old volume. Whether an odd oil should keep its own wick or change its load instead is the extra-SKU post; how the remaining rungs are sized across a range is the inventory-reference post.

If a trial oil fails narrowly
A ring that closes at burn 4 instead of burn 3, or a little carbon late, is still a fail by the rule you set for the standard oils. Do not loosen the rule for the oil you want to move. If you want options short of a separate SKU, ask us; a lower load inside the page's range is one, but it is a reformulation with its own retest.

After a pass: the C2 restock and the leftover Cotton Braided

Consolidation is finished when the old bin is empty and the new reorder point is set.
1
Record the approvalJar, wax lot, load, fill, wick, the three candle IDs and the control. The moved oils now carry the same evidence as the standard ones.
2
Recalculate C2The whole range is now 400 candles a month: 420 C2 at a 5% allowance (₹3,964.80 a month at the flat per-wick price), of which 42 are new. One extra 50-pack a month covers the new share.
3
Reset the reorder pointAt about 14 C2 a day, a 14-day lead time and half a month of safety stock, reorder at 406. The lead time is yours: CSI does not publish lead times or stock depth; confirm dispatch on WhatsApp. Per-size reorder points are the reorder-point post.
4
Run the moved oils on C2 from the next batchNot mid-batch. Label the change on the batch sheet so returns can be traced to the build.
5
Retire the Cotton BraidedKeep about ten as test stock for future heavy-oil screens; use the rest in tests or move it to any product approved on it. What to do with surplus of a bigger wick is the transition-stock post.

Because C2 is flat per wick, the move to one SKU does not unlock a pack discount: the 1,000-pack is ₹9.44 a wick, exactly what the 10-pack costs. What it unlocks is simpler buying: one quantity, one reorder point, one bin. How to split quantities across sizes for ranges that keep two wicks is the two-wick quantity post.

What to buy, and what to skip

Five items, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 16 g per 200 g candle and 12 g per standard 150 g candle.

The CSI principle
A fragrance shares a wick by passing on it.
Three candles, full life, same build, one control. The rupee saving from dropping a wick SKU is modest; the real prize is a simpler factory, and it is only worth having if no candle pays for it.
"Fewer wick SKUs is a good goal. Fewer wick SKUs by assumption is how a range gets a bad month."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, oils and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still says the trial usually needs nothing from us, that consolidating onto one wick unlocks no pack discount on C1, C2 or Cotton Braided, and that folding C1 oils into C2 costs you money.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size; every size shown is in stock on that date (the Eco C1 10-pack, not used here, is out of stock). Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The range, the volumes, the pass/fail thresholds, the 5% allowance, the safety-stock rule, the 14-day lead time and the 200 g fill are our judgement or worked examples; melt-pool times, depths and flame heights are commonly cited rules of thumb; CSI publishes no wick-performance data. Frequently asked questions

Can similar candle fragrances use the same wick?
Often, but only after each one passes on that wick: three candles, burned to the bottom, in the same jar, wax and load. Similar family or notes is a reason to trial, not proof.
How many test candles do I need to move a fragrance to another wick?
Three per fragrance on the new wick, full life, plus one control candle of an already-approved fragrance in the same batch. Two oils = seven candles.
Does reducing wick sizes save money?
Depends on direction. Moving oils from Cotton Braided down to C2 saves ₹2.56 a candle at CSI prices; moving oils from C1 up to C2 costs ₹3.54 a candle more. The freed stock is usually modest; the bigger gain is simpler production.
Are Eco C2 wicks cheaper if I buy 1,000?
No. Eco C2 is ₹9.44 a wick in every pack from 10 to 1,000. Consolidating onto C2 simplifies buying; it does not unlock a lower price per wick.
What if one fragrance passes on the shared wick and another fails?
Move the one that passed and keep the extra wick for the other. The SKU stays, so the saving is only that one oil's candles, and nobody should reorder the old wick at the old volume.
Why burn a control candle in a wick trial?
To prove the batch itself was normal. If an already-approved fragrance misbehaves on its own approved wick, the fault is in the wax, the pour or the room, and the trial result is void.
Fewer wick SKUs, earned
Seven candles from stock decide whether Cotton Braided can leave the factory.
Trial each low-volume oil on the standard wick, three candles to full life with a control, drop the SKU only if every oil on it passes, then reset the C2 reorder point. Tell us which SKU you want to drop and we will check the trial order on WhatsApp.

About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on fragrance changing the wick (5521–5540): how to decide whether low-volume fragrances can share a neighbouring approved wick, the seven-candle sharing trial (three candles per oil plus a control, full life), its cost from stock and from nothing, the yearly saving and freed stock from dropping a wick SKU, the direction asymmetry (Cotton Braided → C2 saves; C1 → C2 costs), four outcomes and their purchases, and the restock after a pass.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — British Rose Fragrance Oil, Eco Candle Wicks, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles, Roasted Coffee Fragrance, Woody Oud Fragrance Oil. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the wick-purchase advice on this page. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Arshad Shaikh, Renam Dhoundiyal, Arminder Kaur, Monika Deep, Jaya Sawlani. The reviews from Emma Bechara are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge. Reviews below five stars are included as published, not filtered out.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). The 200 g fill and 8.0 cm inside diameter are labelled assumptions; pool area = π r² on the inside radius. Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%; British Rose up to 10% soy; Woody Oud and Roasted Coffee 6–10%): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Melt-pool times, depth and flame height are commonly cited rules of thumb. The range, volumes, thresholds, allowance, safety-stock rule and lead time are editorial judgement and worked examples. Costs exclude jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
