Quick answers — read this first
What makes a candle smell "fresh-baked"? Three things together: warm spice (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg), something sweet and buttery (vanilla, sugar, cream, caramel), and a bright fruit note (apple, orange, strawberry) that stops the whole thing reading heavy. Remove the fruit and you have a dessert; remove the spice and you have a sweet shop.

Which CSI oils build that? Cinnamon Vanilla (spice plus "cream and butter"), Autumn (apple, cinnamon, maple, clove, nutmeg), Fresh Strawberries (fruit plus "vanilla sugar"), Dark Vanilla (caramel and cream) and Juicy Orange (zest). All five state a candle load and are in stock at every listed size on 24 September 2026.

Do vanilla oils discolour candles? Often, yes, over time. Vanilla-type fragrance materials are widely reported to turn wax cream, tan or brown, especially in light. CSI has no test data on how much for each oil, so plan for it: bakery candles look right in amber, brown or opaque vessels.

I want a "fresh from the oven" candle line. Which CSI fragrance oils build it, and how do I avoid it turning into a dessert or a Christmas candle?
Build it from three ingredients and give every candle at least two of them. Cinnamon Vanilla is the base of the line: its page lists "cinnamon and clove top notes, vanilla bean and sugar middle notes, and cream and butter base", and butter is the note that reads "baked". Autumn is the fruit-and-spice pie ("crisp red apple, cinnamon leaf, and orange zest ... golden maple, clove bud, and nutmeg ... warm oak, amber, and vanilla"). Fresh Strawberries is the fruit-and-sugar bake. Dark Vanilla adds caramel and cream where you want the golden-crust note, and Juicy Orange is a zest accent you can layer. Keep sweetness in check with fruit, keep spice below the level where it reads festive, and expect the vanilla-rich candles to darken over time. What "fresh from the oven" is made of

The smell of baking is not sugar. It is sugar meeting heat, butter and something sharp to cut through it.

Stand in a bakery and try to name what you smell. Warm spice first, if anything cinnamon-dusted is on the counter. Then a rich, rounded sweetness: butter, vanilla, caramelised sugar. And underneath, easy to miss, fruit: apple in a pastry, orange zest in a cake, strawberry in a tart. That last element is what makes it smell fresh rather than cloying. In our judgement, candle buyers who say "fresh-baked" usually mean this combination, and a line built from it needs oils that carry each part.

Ingredient 1 · Spice: warmth and recognition

Cinnamon, clove and nutmeg are the spices of Indian and Western baking alike. On CSI pages they appear in Cinnamon Vanilla ("cinnamon and clove"), Autumn ("cinnamon leaf ... clove bud, and nutmeg"), Apple Cinnamon ("spicy cinnamon ... nutmeg") and Pumpkin Spice (ginger, cinnamon bark, nutmeg, clove, allspice). In our judgement spice is the ingredient that most easily dominates: push it too far and the candle stops being a bakery and becomes a festive spice candle.

Ingredient 2 · Vanilla, sugar, butter: the "baked" part

This is the ingredient that says oven. Vanilla on its own says ice cream; vanilla with butter and cream says pastry; vanilla with caramel says crust. Cinnamon Vanilla's "cream and butter base" is the clearest statement of it in the range. Dark Vanilla's "deep caramel and cream" is the browned edge. Fresh Strawberries' "vanilla sugar" is the dusting on top.

Ingredient 3 · Fruit: the freshness

Fruit is what separates fresh-baked from dessert. Autumn's "crisp red apple ... orange zest", Fresh Strawberries' "ripe strawberry and citrus zest", Juicy Orange's "sweet orange, mandarin, and bergamot". In our judgement, a bakery candle with no fruit at all tends to read heavy and sweet on a warm Indian afternoon; a little fruit keeps it bright.

Argued against our own interest: CSI does not list an oil called "fresh bread", "croissant", "butter cookie" or "cinnamon roll", and we are not going to pretend one of ours is. Those are candles you build from the ingredients above, either as single oils chosen well or as a two-oil layer you test yourself. A five-candle bakery line from three ingredients

Here is one way to turn the three ingredients into a line of five candles, each carried by a single CSI oil so you can pour it without blending. The names are illustrations; call yours what suits your brand.

Read across the rows and you see the balance: two candles lean spice-and-sweet, one covers all three, one leans fruit-and-sweet, and one is pure fruit. That spread is deliberate. A line of five cinnamon candles would blur together on a shelf; a line that moves from butter to pie to strawberry to caramel gives a customer a reason to buy two. Where Juicy Orange fits

Juicy Orange is the odd one out: a bright citrus with a "white musk and soft amber" base and no bakery sweetness of its own. On a bakery shelf it works best as a zest note layered with Cinnamon Vanilla (see below), or as the one fresh candle that stops the range feeling heavy in summer. It costs 78% more per gram than Fresh Strawberries at 50 g, so if you only want one fruit candle, Fresh Strawberries or Autumn is the better-value choice.

Two alternatives we left out
Apple Cinnamon ("crisp juicy apple and spicy cinnamon opening into baked goods and nutmeg, settling into vanilla and warm amber") would fill the pie slot as well as Autumn, and names "baked goods" outright. Pumpkin Spice is the most spice-heavy oil in the diagram. The five oils, and what each brings to the oven

Ordered by role in the line, not by strength: CSI has no throw measurements for these oils, and which gourmand oils usually need extra hot-throw testing is covered in the café and bakery launch guide. Candle counts assume 150 g at 8% (12 g of oil).

Cinnamon Vanilla
In our reading of the notes, the most "baked" oil CSI lists. Notes: "cinnamon and clove top notes, vanilla bean and sugar middle notes, and cream and butter base". The page states "Up to 13% load for candles" and uses the wording "IFRA-certified" and "Phthalate-free". Two ceilings: in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (stated up to 10%) the wax governs, so test 6%, 8% and 10%; in Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 (up to 13%) you have headroom, though maximum is not the target. Customer reviews on the page read "Frangance is sooo good" and, at four stars, "Will buy more.. wonderful". Limitation: vanilla and cream are in two of its three tiers, so this is the candle most likely to darken; see the colour section.

The closest thing to a whole pie in one bottle: "crisp red apple, cinnamon leaf, and orange zest top notes, golden maple, clove bud, and nutmeg middle notes, and warm oak, amber, and vanilla base". The page states "Recommended fragrance load 7-11% for candles". In CSI 464 the wax's 10% governs, so test at 7%, 8% and 10% (37.5 g of oil across three 150 g candles). Priced flat at ₹5.43 per gram from 50 g to 1 kg; the 15 g is 16% dearer per gram. Limitation: the one review on its page is three stars ("Warm comforting fragrance"), and oak and amber push it towards autumn woods; if it reads too woody in your test, Apple Cinnamon is the sweeter pie.

Fresh Strawberries
The summer end of the line. Notes: "ripe strawberry and citrus zest top notes, sweet rose and honeydew melon middle notes, and vanilla sugar and creamy sandalwood base"; the page states "Recommended fragrance load 6-9% for candles" and describes it as "IFRA-certified". Its ceiling is 9%, so test 6%, 8% and 9% (34.5 g across three candles; 9% costs ₹57.35 of oil at the 50 g price). It is the cheapest oil in the set at ₹4.25 per gram at 50 g and falls to ₹3.54 at 500 g and 1 kg. Reviews on the page include "Absolutely loved it!!" and "Really nice fragrance, we continue our shopping going forward." Limitation: the rose in its heart makes it floral-fruity on its own; it reads as a bake only next to the spiced candles.

Dark Vanilla Fragrance
The browned, caramelised edge of the oven: "rich vanilla and spice opening into deep caramel and cream, settling into dark amber and warm musk"; candle load stated as 6–10%. Where Cinnamon Vanilla is butter, Dark Vanilla is crust. It also makes a useful layering partner: a quarter of Dark Vanilla under a fruit oil adds depth without adding spice. A verified review on its page calls it "One of the best fragrance oils". Limitation: at ₹8.20 per gram at 50 g it is the dearest oil in the set, it is priced identically to Vanilla Bean, and as the most vanilla-led candle here it is a strong candidate for discolouration.

Juicy Orange
Bright citrus to cut the sweetness: "Opens with sweet orange, mandarin, and bergamot - juicy, sparkling, fresh citrus peel energy. Heart of neroli and light jasmine ... Base of white musk and soft amber". The page states "For candles, use at 8-10% in soy" and uses the wording "IFRA Certified". Test 8%, 9% and 10% (40.5 g across three candles, which fits a 50 g bottle). The page also quotes an EDT/EDP perfume rate of 15–20%; that is not a candle load. Limitation: citrus top notes are generally the first to fade in a burning candle, and there is no bakery sweetness in it, so it is an accent, not a hero. Nearly flat per gram from 50 g (₹7.58) to 1 kg (₹7.50).

Layering two oils for a specific bake

Single oils first. Layer only when a single oil cannot say what you mean.

Some bakes do not exist as a single CSI oil: an orange cinnamon bun, strawberries and cream, a caramel apple. You can build them by pouring two oils into one candle. The total load stays the same (12 g at 8% in 150 g); only the split changes. In our judgement, keep the total within the lowest stated maximum of either oil and the wax's ceiling: for Juicy Orange with Cinnamon Vanilla in CSI 464, that is 10%; for any blend containing Fresh Strawberries, 9%.

Burn and ask one questionDoes it smell like the bake you named, or like two candles in one jar? If the orange vanishes after an hour, shift the split towards it; if the cinnamon takes over, shift away.

Write the recipe down before scalingSplit, total load, wax, wick, cure. A blend doubles your stock lines and your reorders; make sure it earns that before it goes on the menu.
Mistake: adding a second oil on top of a full load ("8% Cinnamon Vanilla plus a bit of orange"). Fix: the second oil comes out of the same 12 g, not on top of it. Overloading pushes the total past the ceiling and, in common experience, makes soot and poor burning more likely without making the candle smell better.

Vanilla and colour: planning for discolouration

A bakery candle that is ivory on day one may be caramel by month two. Plan for it rather than fight it.

It is widely reported among candle makers that fragrance oils rich in vanilla-type materials (vanillin and related compounds) tend to discolour wax over time, from ivory to cream, tan or brown, and that light and warmth speed it up. How much depends on the oil, the wax, any dye, the vessel and storage. CSI has no test data on the degree for any oil on this page, and we will not guess. What we can say is where the risk sits in this line: Cinnamon Vanilla carries vanilla and cream in two of its three tiers, and Dark Vanilla opens on vanilla with caramel and cream behind it; Fresh Strawberries and Autumn carry it in the base; Juicy Orange names none. One data point to flag: on 24 September 2026 the listing Candle Dye Liquid | Brown shows its 100 gm at ₹236.00, the same price as its 15 gm and far below its 50 gm (₹472.00). That looks like a listing error rather than an offer; confirm the price on WhatsApp before relying on it. More shades are in the liquid dyes collection.

Photograph at day 30, not day 1
Keep one candle of each oil on a shelf in normal room light and photograph it at day 1, day 7 and day 30. Use the day-30 photo for your listings. A customer who receives a cream-coloured candle when your photo showed white will think something is wrong; one who sees the same colour as the photo will not.
Mistake: launching a vanilla-rich bakery candle in clear glass with bright white wax photography. Fix: pick the vessel for the day-30 colour, not the day-1 colour, or dye the wax to a bakery shade from the start. And do not describe any of these candles as "non-discolouring"; we cannot promise that, and neither can you.

When a fresh-baked line sells

Diwali falls on 8 November 2026 and Christmas on 25 December 2026; winter runs roughly December to February, colder in North India and milder in the South. In our judgement, spiced and buttery bakes (Cinnamon Vanilla, Autumn, Dark Vanilla) are the obvious winter and festive gifts, while the fruit end of the line (Fresh Strawberries, Juicy Orange) keeps the range selling into Indian summer, roughly April to June. Frequently asked questions

Which fragrance oil smells like fresh baked goods for candles?
At CSI, Cinnamon Vanilla comes closest to "baked": its page lists cinnamon and clove over vanilla bean and sugar, with a cream and butter base. Autumn (apple, cinnamon, maple, clove, nutmeg) is the closest single-bottle pie. Apple Cinnamon names "baked goods" outright.
Why did my vanilla candle turn brown?
Vanilla-type fragrance materials are widely reported to discolour wax over time, faster in light and warmth. It is common and not a sign the candle is faulty. Use amber, brown or opaque vessels, or dye the wax to a bakery shade, and photograph products at day 30.
Can I mix two fragrance oils in one candle?
Yes, as a split of the same total load: at 8% in a 150 g candle, 12 g in total, for example 4 g Juicy Orange and 8 g Cinnamon Vanilla. Keep the total within the lowest stated maximum of either oil and the wax's ceiling, and test each oil alone first.
How much fragrance oil for a bakery candle in soy wax?
Test at three loads within the ceilings: Cinnamon Vanilla and Dark Vanilla at 6%, 8% and 10% in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464; Autumn at 7%, 8% and 10%; Fresh Strawberries at 6%, 8% and 9%; Juicy Orange at 8%, 9% and 10%. At 8%, a 150 g candle takes 12 g.
Is there a cinnamon roll fragrance oil for candles in India?
CSI does not list one by that name. Cinnamon Vanilla (cinnamon, clove, vanilla, sugar, cream, butter) is the nearest single oil; layering a little Juicy Orange into it gives an orange cinnamon bun.
What does a fresh-baked candle cost to make?
Worked example: a 150 g Cinnamon Vanilla candle at 8% in CSI 464 soy, a 150 g clear glass jar and a C1 wick costs ₹235.46 in materials at the 50 g oil price. That excludes labour, freight, packaging and GST.
