Which CSI oils should I buy first? Five: Roasted Coffee, Coffee Vanilla Tobacco, Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Fudge and Cinnamon Vanilla. Every one states a candle load on its page, and all five have a 50 g in stock on 24 September 2026.
What does the first order cost? The five-oil 50 g set is ₹1,558.64 for 250 g of oil. With wax, 20 jars, two wick sizes and stickers, the full test basket is ₹5,281.24, or ₹264.06 per test candle before freight and GST.
What about mocha? CSI lists Moca Coffee, but only its 50 g (₹560.00) and 100 g are in stock, at ₹11.20 per gram against Roasted Coffee's ₹4.60. Roasted Coffee's own page already names dark chocolate and espresso, so start there.

The café palette, note by note
Buyers who ask for a "café candle" rarely mean a candle that smells like a jar of ground beans. They mean the room: warm, a little sweet, roasted rather than burnt, with enough softness underneath that it reads as comforting rather than bitter. That room is made from six notes. The trick of a café-inspired range is deciding how much of each to use, and every CSI oil below leans a different way.
1 · Roasted coffee — the signature
The note that tells people what the candle is. Three of CSI's candle-oil listings name coffee on their pages: Roasted Coffee ("fresh coffee bean top notes ... espresso heart"), Coffee Vanilla Tobacco ("fresh brewed coffee and cocoa top notes") and Moca Coffee ("Fresh Brewed Coffee, Light Cocoa"). A fourth, Coffee Blast, names "Fresh Espresso, Roasted Coffee Beans" but has only its 50 g in stock. Two perfume-grade listings also name coffee; see the gaps section below. Coffee is a top-to-heart note: it is what you smell first. 2 · Chocolate and cocoa — the mocha bridge
Chocolate is what turns "coffee" into "café". Roasted Coffee names "dark chocolate" in its heart; Chocolate Fudge opens on "rich cocoa and sweet caramel" with "creamy chocolate and toasted nuts" in the middle. Put a coffee candle and a chocolate candle on the same shelf and a customer reads "mocha" without you owning a mocha oil.
3 · Vanilla — the thread that ties the palette together
Every one of the six oils in the diagram names vanilla somewhere. It is the note that makes coffee smell like a drink rather than a bean. Vanilla Bean is the straight version ("Creamy, sweet vanilla with subtle caramel undertones"); Dark Vanilla is the heavier cousin, with spice, caramel and dark amber, at exactly the same price per size. We shortlist Vanilla Bean because a café range needs one clean vanilla to set against the coffees.
4 · Caramel and brown sugar — the sweetness dial
CSI does not list a caramel-only oil, so caramel arrives inside other oils: Roasted Coffee's "vanilla and caramel base", Chocolate Fudge's "sweet caramel" and "warm brown sugar", Vanilla Bean's "subtle caramel undertones", Cinnamon Vanilla's "sugar". This is the note to watch: too much sweetness and a café candle turns into a dessert candle. 5 · Cinnamon — the accent, not the lead
A little cinnamon says cinnamon roll on the counter; a lot says Christmas. Of the six oils mapped, only Cinnamon Vanilla names it ("cinnamon and clove top notes, vanilla bean and sugar middle notes, and cream and butter base"). 6 · Cream, milk and tonka — the softness
No CSI oil is called "latte" or "milk". Softness comes from Coffee Vanilla Tobacco's "vanilla cream and tonka bean heart", Moca Coffee's "Tonka Bean" base and Cinnamon Vanilla's "cream and butter base". It rounds the edges of coffee so the candle reads as a cup, not a grinder.

The five oils to buy first
Ranked on what we can show you: how many palette notes each page names, whether a candle load is stated, price per gram at 50 g, stock at every size, and how much weight sits in the base. CSI has no throw measurements for these oils, and we will not invent any; which of them "usually needs extra testing for hot throw" is argued in the café and bakery launch guide (1695). Candle counts assume 150 g at 8% (12 g of oil).

Mocha, and the coffee oils with thin stock
Two CSI coffee listings look like obvious café buys and are the ones we would hold back from a first order. Both are real, both have appealing note lists, and both are thinly stocked on 24 September 2026.

Moca Coffee lists "Fresh Brewed Coffee, Light Cocoa" on top, "Creamy Chocolate, Vanilla Bean" in the heart and "Tonka Bean, Soft Musk, Warm Amber" in the base, which is as close to a written mocha as CSI has. At ₹11.20 per gram it costs 143% more than Roasted Coffee at 50 g; oil for one 8% candle is ₹134.40 against ₹55.20. The page does not state a candle load, so work inside your wax's ceiling (10% in CSI 464) and test at 6%, 8% and 10%. The bigger problem is continuity: with no 500 g or 1 kg in stock, you cannot scale a Moca Coffee candle today. If it wins your test, ask on WhatsApp when bulk sizes return before you put it on a menu.
Coffee Blast ("Fresh Espresso, Roasted Coffee Beans | ... Dark Cocoa, Light Caramel | ... Vanilla Bean, Warm Amber, Soft Musk") is in stock only at 50 g (₹649.00, ₹12.98 per gram) and states no candle load. Oil per 8% candle: ₹155.76. Treat it as a comparison bottle, not a product line. Two, three or five oils: first-order routes
Not everyone needs all five on day one. Each route below is built so that every note it includes is carried by an oil with a stated candle load and bulk sizes in stock, apart from Chocolate Fudge's missing 100 g and the optional Moca Coffee comparison in the last row.

The espresso pair at ₹428.24 is the cheapest serious start: both oils cost ₹4.60 per gram or less at 50 g, and between them they already say "mocha". The full palette costs ₹1,130.40 more and answers the questions a café range will face: does the darker coffee sell, does a plain vanilla earn its shelf, does cinnamon belong.
15 g, 50 g or 100 g?
A 15 g bottle makes one 150 g candle at 8%. It tells you whether you like an oil, not what load it wants. The smell-first route (15 g of Roasted Coffee, Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Fudge and Cinnamon Vanilla, plus a 50 g of Coffee Vanilla Tobacco, which has no 15 g) costs ₹871.64 for 110 g, ₹7.92 per gram. The 50 g set is ₹1,558.64 for 250 g, ₹6.23 per gram. The 15 g of Roasted Coffee is 35% dearer per gram than its 50 g, so on the anchor oil the small bottle is the expensive way to learn.
A 100 g route is harder to build than it looks: Chocolate Fudge's 100 g is out of stock on 24 September 2026, so the four oils that do have one cost ₹2,562.80, or ₹2,761.04 with Chocolate Fudge at 50 g. Most of that oil would sit on a shelf until your test told you what to do with it. And on Coffee Vanilla Tobacco the 100 g (₹8.99 per gram) is fractionally dearer per gram than the 50 g (₹8.98).
The café test basket, priced line by line
Three loads per oil is fifteen candles; one retest per oil at your chosen load makes twenty. Each 150 g candle needs 9 g, 12 g or 15 g of oil (6%, 8%, 10% of total weight) and the rest in wax. For Coffee Vanilla Tobacco, pour 7%, 8% and 9% (10.5 g, 12 g, 13.5 g), because its page tops out at 9%.

The non-oil lines come to ₹3,722.60, more than the oils. We have added a pack of thick C2 wicks to the basket because gourmand oils with heavy vanilla and caramel bases are often the ones where makers find they need to change wick; that is common experience, not a CSI measurement. Neither wick is a prescription: the right size depends on your jar's inside diameter, so run a melt-pool test and browse the Candle Wicks collection if neither C1 nor C2 reaches the edge in two to three hours.
On wax: CSI 464 is ₹0.51 per gram at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg alike, so three 1 kg bags cost the same per gram as the 10 kg and leave you less to store. Its stated ceiling of 10% matches the top of every shortlisted page except Coffee Vanilla Tobacco (9%) and Cinnamon Vanilla (13%). If you want room to test Cinnamon Vanilla above 10%, Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 states up to 13% and a pour temperature of 58–60°C, at ₹0.65 per gram in the 1 kg bag. We would not buy it for that reason alone; 10% is plenty to learn from.
What one café candle costs
Worked example, Roasted Coffee at 8% in the 150 g clear jar: 12 g of oil at the 50 g price (₹55.20) + 138 g of CSI 464 (₹70.02) + one jar from the pack of 10 (₹94.40) + one C1 wick (₹5.90) = ₹225.52. At the 1 kg oil price the same candle is ₹215.18. The same build with Chocolate Fudge is ₹217.90; with Coffee Vanilla Tobacco, ₹278.08. All exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. The gap between the two shortlisted coffees is ₹52.56 of oil per candle, which is a pricing decision you make on the shelf, not in the oil order.
Your first pour: a six-step check

Gaps, perfume-grade coffees and the winter window
What CSI does not list
On 24 September 2026 there is no hazelnut, no caramel-only, no latte, milk or cappuccino oil and no chai oil in the CSI range. Caramel and cream come from inside the oils above; nuttiness from Chocolate Fudge's "toasted nuts", the almond in Mahogany Shea (no candle load stated) and the "caramelised sugar and praline heart" of Roasted Coconut, whose "toasted coconut and coconut milk top notes" make it the bakery-counter coconut: its page states "candles (up to 10%)", and it is ₹247.00 for 50 g and ₹3,999.00 for 1 kg, with no 500 g size. If one of those notes is central to your café brand, ask on WhatsApp before you design around a gap.
Perfume-grade coffees: interesting, expensive, not candle-rated
Two perfume-grade listings name coffee. Khamrah Qahwa opens with "roasted coffee, cinnamon, nutmeg, and bergamot" and dries down to vanilla, tonka, cacao and amber. "Khamrah Qahwa" is CSI's product listing name; the oil is CSI's interpretation of that style, CSI is not affiliated with the brand that uses the name, and it should not appear on your label. The page quotes perfume usage rates, which are not candle loads, and states no candle load. It is flat at ₹15.06 per gram: ₹180.72 of oil in an 8% candle, against ₹55.20 for Roasted Coffee. The winter window
Diwali falls on 8 November 2026, 45 days after these prices were checked, and Christmas on 25 December 2026. Winter runs roughly December to February, colder in North India and milder in the South. In our judgement warm, roasted, sweet scents are what many buyers reach for in those months, which makes a café range a natural Diwali-gift and winter product.
