CSI materials to qualify a three-fragrance range across Pure Performance, Lift and Longevity — 15 bottles, oils and reeds · CSI live pricing, pulled 14 October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I choose a commercial reed diffuser base? Gates, then scores. Pass safety (SDS, courier) and clarity with every oil; then score capillary flow, evaporation and cost per day on weights you set first.

Which CSI base is best? None is ranked — CSI publishes no throw or life data. Shortlist the base each page writes for your family, plus neutral Pure Performance, and test.

Does the base change cost per bottle much? Little: four bases are ₹1,099.00 / 500 ml. Longevity adds about ₹31.52 per 100 g bottle here. Oil and packaging move cost more.

What does qualifying a range cost? ₹8,991.04 in CSI materials for three oils across three bases. See the kit.
The short answer
Answer: Treat safety and fragrance compatibility as gates and capillary flow, evaporation and finished product cost as weighted scores, for every oil the base will carry. Buy the base that passes both gates and wins or ties for each SKU.
Why: A base you cannot ship or that clouds is not commercial at any price; among bases that pass, the trade-off between throw, life and cost depends on your product. CSI publishes no performance data, so the pages give a shortlist, not a winner.
Method: Shortlist from the pages plus Pure Performance; SDS and courier check; clarity at 0 h, 48 h, 7 days, a cool night and with reeds; two bottles per oil–base pair at 20%, weighed and scored blind for 14 days; cost per bottle and per day; a decision per SKU.
Selecting a commercial base: five criteria, in the order that saves money Two gates you pass or fail, then three scores you weigh · for every oil the base will carry 1 · Safety SDS, flammability, storage, courier GATE: pass / fail 2 · Compatibility clarity with every oil 0 h → 7 d → cool night GATE: pass / fail 3 · Capillary flow tips wet, flip response, reed condition SCORE 0–5 × weight 4 · Evaporation g/day inside your floor–ceiling window SCORE 0–5 × weight 5 · Product cost ₹ per bottle, per day, margin at your price SCORE 0–5 × weight Shortlist before testing: the base each CSI page writes for the oil's family, plus neutral Pure Performance. Test every oil–base pair. Buy the base that passes both gates and wins (or ties) the weighted score for each SKU — then check every delivery against a retained sample, and re-qualify when the oil, load, bottle, reeds, lot or season changes. No CSI base is ranked by measured throw or life: CSI publishes none. The order of the criteria is the method.
The five criteria in the order that saves money. Safety and fragrance compatibility are pass-or-fail gates; capillary flow, evaporation and finished product cost are scores weighted by what your product needs. Every oil the base will carry goes through all five; no CSI base is ranked, because CSI publishes no measured throw or life data.
Straight answer
How do I select a commercial reed diffuser base in India that balances fragrance compatibility, capillary flow, evaporation, safety and finished product cost?
Take the five criteria in order, as two gates and three scores, for every oil the base will carry. Shortlist from what each CSI page says its base is for — Lift Base for floral, citrus, green and fruity; Softness Base for soft florals and light gourmands; Depth Base for leather, smoky and rich gourmands; Longevity Base for amber, woods, resins and spice — plus neutral Pure Performance Base as a control. Gate 1, safety: obtain and read the base's SDS (ask CSI on WhatsApp whether one is available) and get your courier's answer in writing. Gate 2, compatibility: each oil, by weight, clear at 0 h, 48 h, 7 days, after a cool night and with reeds. Then score capillary flow (wet-tip time, reed condition, flip response), evaporation (g/day inside your floor–ceiling window) and cost (per bottle, per day, margin at your price) on weights written beforehand. Buy, per SKU, the base that passes and wins or ties. Qualifying a three-oil range costs ₹8,991.04.
One line: gates before scores, every oil before any order, a retained sample before every delivery.
Every commercial base decision on CSI starts from the same five in-stock bases — Pure Performance Base (₹325.00 / 100 g, ₹1,099.00 / 500 ml), Lift Base, Depth Base and Softness Base (₹1,099.00 / 500 ml each) and Longevity Base (₹1,296.00 / 500 ml). CSI HyperDiffusion Base™ is out of stock. The qualification round on this page tests a three-SKU range across the page-matched bases and neutral Pure Performance.

The method in one paragraph

You are not choosing the best base. You are choosing the base that passes for every oil you sell, at a cost your price can carry.

The five things in your question are not five equal scores. Two of them are gates: safety, because a base you cannot store, label or ship is not a commercial base however it smells; and fragrance compatibility, because a blend that clouds in a clear bottle is a returned product. The other three are scores you weigh against each other for your product: capillary flow — how readily the blend climbs the reeds and keeps releasing from them; evaporation — grams lost per day, inside a window you set from the life you want to sell; and finished product cost — per bottle, per day of use, and as a margin at your selling price. Take them in that order, for every oil the base will carry, and the decision almost makes itself.

CSI's product pages help with the first step and no further. Each of the five in-stock bases has a page that says which fragrance families it is written for, a 10–30% load range and a 24–48 hour rest. None publishes composition, density, viscosity, evaporation rate, flash point, shelf life or throw data, and we will not rank them on any of those. So the straight answer is: shortlist by family from the pages, plus neutral Pure Performance; pass safety and compatibility as gates; score capillary flow, evaporation and cost on a sheet you write before testing; buy the base that passes and wins or ties for each SKU; and check every delivery against a retained sample. This capstone sets out the whole process for a three-fragrance commercial range, prices the qualification round, works the finished-product cost and margin, schedules it honestly against Diwali, and links every question in this section.

The pillars behind each stage are which reed diffuser base to buy in India (the base decision), Augeo-type, DPG and alcohol formulas (carrier types CSI does not sell), how much fragrance oil to add to 100 ml (load), making a 100 ml diffuser with a ready-made base (the basic method) and starting a profitable reed diffuser business (the business). The other section hubs — getting started with reed diffusers, diagnosing a weak diffuser and costs and wholesale buying — pick up where a stage on this page points.

The CSI principle
Gates before scores. Every oil before any order. A retained sample before every delivery.
That is the whole method. Everything else on this page is how to do each part cheaply and honestly.

Step 1: shortlist from the pages, not from a ranking

Start by reading each base page for what it says it is for, and match your oils' families to it. That gives you a shortlist of one or two family bases per oil; add Pure Performance Base as a neutral control for every oil, because its page says it suits all families and because it is the only CSI base sold in 100 g, which makes it the cheapest control. The example range on this page is three fragrances a small Indian brand might launch together — a night-blooming jasmine floral, a spiced wood and a tropical fruit — chosen to land on different base pages.

Saffron Cedarwood Woody, spicy Longevity (woody, spicy) Pure Performance Base 15 g · ₹103.84
Mango Coconut Fruity Lift (fruity — names mango) Pure Performance Base 15 g · ₹93.22

Two things are worth noticing before any testing. First, four of the five bases cost the same per 500 ml, so the base choice changes cost per bottle only through density and through Longevity's premium — the break-even post shows when that premium can pay. Second, the pages for heavy families describe slower diffusion; if your complaint is weak throw, a heavy-family base is a test, not a cure — heavy oud, amber and sandalwood sets that trap out. For an alcohol, DPG or Augeo-type carrier you would blend yourself, CSI sells none of them; ready-made base versus DPG and premium base versus blending solvents cover that route.

Steps 2 and 3: the two gates

A base that fails a gate is not a low score. It is off the list, for that oil, at that load.

Safety first. Ask CSI on WhatsApp whether a safety data sheet is available for each shortlisted base, and read sections 1 (is it the exact product), 2 (hazard classification), 5 (fire-fighting), 7 (storage), 9 (physical properties, including density and flash point where stated), 14 (transport) and 16 (revision date). Ask your courier, in writing, whether it will carry the finished diffuser. We will not promise that an SDS exists for every base; if your courier, storeroom or retail buyer needs one and it is not available, that base fails the gate for that channel. Think, too, about where the bottle will stand: a diffuser beside a diya or candle is a different risk with a flammable carrier, which is why the perfumer's alcohol post puts flammability before smell.

Compatibility second, for every oil. Mix each oil in each shortlisted base by weight at your intended load and at five points above it, in clear glass, with a base-only blank. Look against white and black cards on mixing, at 24 and 48 hours (the pages' rest), at 7 days, after a cool night and back at room temperature, and after 48 hours with reeds in. A pass is clear and single-phase every time. A useful working rule is to sell at least five points below the highest load that passed — and never above the oil's IFRA limit for the category covering reed diffusers (commonly Category 10A), which you read from the oil's certificate; CSI publishes no IFRA percentage on its pages. Never clear a cloudy blend with water or alcohol. Clarity tests before a 5 kg order is the full protocol; high loads without separation covers the top of the range.

Base SDS obtained and read Courier answer in writing Raat Ki Rani clear? Saffron Cedarwood clear? Mango Coconut clear?
Pure Performance Base ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Lift Base ___ ___ ___ — ___
Longevity Base ___ ___ — ___ —
The common mistake: treating a page's family list as a pass. "Lift is for fruity, so Mango Coconut is fine in Lift" skips the gate. The page tells you what the base was designed for; it is not a compatibility test of your oil at your load. Fix: every oil goes through the clarity gate in every base it might be sold in — including the family base its page names.

Steps 4 to 6: score capillary flow, evaporation and cost

For the pairs that passed both gates, fill test bottles — here two per pair in CSI's 120 ml bottle at an example 100 g fill, 20%, 8 white fibre reeds — weigh them with their reeds, flip at one agreed time for every bottle (the pages say after the first hour for Pure Performance and after 2–3 hours for Longevity; use the later time for all), and record for 14 days. Capillary flow: note how long the reed tips take to look wet, photograph the tips on a white card on days 3, 7 and 14, feel for stickiness, and score the room again an hour after a day-14 flip — a big jump means the tips had stopped releasing well. Evaporation: grams per day from the weights, compared with a ceiling you set from the life you want (fill ÷ target days) and a floor you find (the lowest g/day that still passes your blind room score). Cost: per bottle and per day, below.

Example room for blind scoring · 3.0 m × 4.0 m, 2.9 m ceiling (12.0 m², 34.8 m³, about 129 sq ft) — use your own · your house scale
The three scores, and how each becomes 0–5
Score Readings Becomes 0–5 by Example weight
Capillary flow and reeds Wet-tip time; tip photos days 3, 7, 14; stickiness; flip response Your reed grade (5 = tips like day 3, no flip jump; 0 = blocked) 20%
Evaporation and throw g/day; blind 0–5 room score at 1 m and 3 m on days 1, 7, 14 Room score if g/day is inside your window; 0 if it is outside 45%
Finished product cost Liquid ₹ per bottle; cost per day = liquid ₹ ÷ (fill ÷ g/day) Cheapest pair ÷ this pair × 5 35%

Weights are yours and should be written down, signed and dated before the first bottle is mixed. A brand selling long-life bedside diffusers might weight evaporation most; one selling statement pieces for lobbies might weight throw higher and accept a shorter life. A difference smaller than the spread between bottles of the same pair is a tie, and a tie is decided by the things outside the scorecard: stock simplicity, which base your other oils already pass in, and reorder reliability. The two-base scorecard works through this arithmetic with an illustrative pair; a base that lasts but barely smells and a base that evaporates too quickly cover the two ways a base can miss the window.

Weigh, never pour by volume
Every number in steps 4 to 6 depends on knowing exactly what is in each bottle. The base pages' own example is by volume (75 ml base + 25 ml oil for a 100 ml diffuser at 25%), but bases and oils have different, unpublished densities, so equal volumes are not equal loads. Weigh base and oil on a scale, and weigh 100 ml of each base once so you can convert your recipe into 500 ml bottles.

The qualification round for a three-SKU range

Every oil goes into neutral Pure Performance and into its page-matched base: Raat Ki Rani and Mango Coconut into Lift Base, Saffron Cedarwood into Longevity Base. That is six oil–base pairs, two bottles each, plus one base-only blank per base — 15 bottles in two packs of ten. Each bottle holds 20 g of oil and 80 g of base. Two bottles per pair is a screen, a labelled working practice; repeat the winning pair with more bottles before a production order.

When the materials arrive — paper and weighingRequest SDS documents for the bases and IFRA certificates for the oils on WhatsApp. Weigh 100 ml of each base on the Weighing Scale (three times, averaged) and keep it capped as a retained sample. Write your scorecard weights, target life and house scales.
2
First 48 hours — mix and gate on clarityMix each pair by weight in a 250 ml beaker, pour into the clear bottles, cap, and look at 0 h, 24 h and 48 h against white and black cards. Pour the blanks. Any pair that hazes is out — record it.

5
Reed day 14 (or day 7 before Diwali) — score and decide per SKUFor each oil, compare its two pairs on the weighted sheet. Buy, for each SKU, the base that passed both gates and won or tied — and if two SKUs tie between the same bases, prefer the base that serves more of the range.
The common mistake: choosing one base for the range from one oil's result. A maker tests the bestseller, picks its base, and moves the whole range into it. The other oils were never gated. Fix: every SKU earns its base on its own pair results. If one base serves all three, that is a finding, not an assumption — one base for several oils shows why.

Finished product cost and margin

Cost per bottle tells you whether you can sell it. Cost per day tells you whether customers will buy it again.

At production rates — each oil at its cheapest per-gram production pack (500 g or 1 kg), each base at its 500 ml rate with an example density of 1.00 g per ml — the liquid in a 100 g bottle at 20% costs as below. Add the 120 ml Gold bottle (₹106.20) and 8 white reeds at the 50-pack rate (₹72.00) for the CSI materials. Then add your own label, box and labour — shown here as labelled examples of ₹10.00, ₹35.00 and ₹25.00 that you replace with your quotes — and set it against an example selling price of ₹799.00. GST, freight, marketplace fees and returns are excluded.

Mango Coconut · Lift ₹255.12 ₹433.32 ₹70.00 ₹503.32 37.0% 59%

Two lessons sit in that table. The base is a small share of the total, and between Pure Performance and Lift — both ₹1,099.00 per 500 ml — it makes no difference at all at the same density; only Longevity's premium shows, at ₹31.52 per Saffron Cedarwood bottle. The oil and the packaging move the cost far more. So on cost, the base decision is mostly about cost per day: a base that keeps a passing room score at a lower g/day gives the customer more days for the same price. At a measured 2.0 g a day — an example; yours comes from the scale — a 100 g bottle lasts 50 days; at 1.5 g, 67 days. Selling 120 ml diffusers at ₹799: the maximum raw-material cost and what a 100 ml diffuser costs to make take the margin maths further.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The tidy answer for a supplier is "one premium base for everything". But if Pure Performance passes both gates and ties on the scorecard for all three oils, the right purchase is one base, not three — and on the numbers above, moving Saffron Cedarwood into Longevity costs ₹31.52 more per bottle, which it has to earn back in days of life or a better room score. If it does not, keep it in the cheaper base.

The priced qualification round

Listed, in-stock CSI packs only, with a 5% liquid allowance. Pure Performance carries three pairs and a blank — 609.0 g — which the cheapest listed combination covers as 1 × 500 ml + 2 × 100 g. Lift carries two pairs and a blank (441.0 g, one 500 ml at any density above 0.882 g per ml); Longevity one pair and a blank (273.0 g). Each oil goes into two pairs, 84.0 g each, bought as the cheapest mix of its small sizes.

The 96 reeds come as one 100-pack of white (₹900.00), cheaper than a 50 and two 25s (₹980.00). Raat Ki Rani's handle carries a stale "ships-21st-june-2025" note; it was in stock in every size on 14 October 2026, as were Saffron Cedarwood and Mango Coconut. Saffron Cedarwood is one of the oils that is cheaper per gram at 500 g (₹5.17) than at 1 kg (₹6.87) — use the 500 g for production. Production base is bought in 500 ml bottles; there is no 1 kg, 5 kg or 25 kg listing, and larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp with no published volume discount — sampling before a 25 kg order and 1 kg, 5 kg or 25 kg when starting cover the order size.

Scheduling it honestly before Diwali

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026 — 25 days from today, 14 October. The qualification round's 48-hour gate and 7-day readings fit; its 14-day readings are tight; a 30-day life test does not fit at all. The working plan below shows what a three-SKU launch can honestly claim by when. Dates are a labelled example; your dispatch deadline depends on your courier and your customers.

Example working plan · count back from your own last-dispatch date · nothing here is a CSI lead time (none is published)
From today to Diwali
Date Day Step What you can claim by then
Wed 14 Oct 0 Order test materials Nothing yet
Fri 16 Oct 2 Mix, clarity 0 h, start 48 h rest Mixing-day clarity
Sun 18 Oct 4 48 h clarity look; reed and weigh day 0 48-hour clarity gate passed or failed
Sun 25 Oct 11 Day-7 weights, room scores, 7-day clarity 7-day clarity, g/day and room score
Mon 26 Oct 12 Decide base per SKU; order production base A base per SKU on 7-day evidence
Thu 29 Oct 15 Production blend + 24–48 h rest Production blend rested
Sun 01 Nov 18 Bottle, label, pack Bottled stock
Wed 04 Nov 21 Last dispatch for delivery before Diwali (example) Shipped

Two honest consequences. First, a product launched on this schedule is qualified on 7-day evidence; say nothing on the label about how many weeks it lasts until your own bottles have shown it — keep weighing the test bottles through November. Second, if a pair fails a gate on day 4 there is still time to re-run it at a lower load, but not to qualify a new base from scratch and still ship; in that case launch the SKUs that passed and hold the other for the November–February wedding season. 500 diffusers for Diwali corporate gifting works the quantities for a larger festive order.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished diffusers. The convenient answer for a base seller is a single "best" base. This page refuses to rank CSI's bases, because CSI publishes no throw, evaporation or longevity data; it shortlists only from what each page says, puts safety and clarity ahead of every sales claim, shows that the base is a small share of product cost, and tells you when one base is enough.

Diffuser base, reed, bottle and tool prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 14 October 2026. Fragrance-oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 14 October 2026. Every blend split, base-pack count, per-bottle liquid cost, kit total and cost per day on this page is computed and shown to two decimals so you can check it; density and grams-per-day figures are labelled examples, never CSI specifications.

Bottle counts per arm, the clarity checkpoints, the weighing schedule, the room-scoring scale and the decision thresholds are labelled working practices, not industry standards — none exists for reed diffusers. The 100 g fill, the 20% load, two bottles per pair, the scorecard weights, the 3.0 × 4.0 m room, the ₹10.00 label, ₹35.00 box, ₹25.00 labour, the ₹799.00 price, the 1.5–2.0 g/day figures and the Diwali plan dates are labelled examples you replace. Frequently asked questions

What is the best reed diffuser base for commercial use in India?
There is no published ranking. Choose the base that passes safety and clarity with every oil you sell and wins your weighted score on capillary flow, evaporation and cost. CSI's pages say which families each of its five in-stock bases is written for; use them to shortlist, then test.
What should I look for in a reed diffuser base?
An SDS you can read and a transport class your courier accepts; clarity with your oils at your load over at least a week and a cool night; reeds that wet and keep releasing; a grams-per-day inside your target life; and a cost per day of fragrance your price can carry.
How do I test reed diffuser base compatibility with fragrance oil?
Mix by weight at your load and five points above, in clear glass with a base-only blank; look against white and black cards on mixing, at 24 and 48 hours, at 7 days, after a cool night and with reeds in. A pass is clear and single-phase every time.
How much does the base add to the cost of a reed diffuser?
Less than most makers expect. In a 100 g fill at 20%, the 80 g of base costs about ₹175.84 at ₹1,099.00 / 500 ml and 1.00 g per ml; the oil, bottle and packaging usually cost more. The base matters more to cost per day of fragrance than to cost per bottle.
Can I use one reed diffuser base for my whole range?
Often, if every oil passes the gates and scores well in it — a neutral base such as Pure Performance is written for all families. Test every oil; add a second base only for an oil that fails or clearly underperforms.
When should I re-test my reed diffuser base?
Whenever something changes: a new delivery of base (quick check against a retained sample), a new oil or reorder, a load change, a different bottle or reed, a new season, or a new SDS version or supplier.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. The five-criterion method, gate and score sheets, qualification round, re-qualification triggers and decision rule apply to any base from any supplier; the products named are CSI's. This page ranks no base: CSI publishes no throw, evaporation or longevity data.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Candle Wicking Needle and Bamboo Wick Holder. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

Non-price figures and assumptions: Load convention: fragrance load is a share of the total blend by weight (oil g = blend g × L; base g = blend g × (1 − L)). Example fill 100 g per 120 ml bottle at 20% = 20 g oil + 80 g base. Example density 1.00 g per ml (weigh 100 ml of each base to replace it). Working practices: 2 bottles per oil–base pair, 1 base-only blank per base, 8 reeds, first flip at 3 hours for every bottle, 5% liquid allowance, clarity at 0 h, 24 h, 48 h, 7 days, after a cool night and with reeds; weights on reed days 0, 1, 3, 7 and 14; blind 0–5 scoring at 1 m and 3 m; a five-point clarity margin. Labelled examples: weights 20/45/35%, room 3.0 × 4.0 × 2.9 m, label ₹10.00, box ₹35.00, labour ₹25.00, selling price ₹799.00, 1.5 and 2.0 g/day, and the Diwali working plan. Production-rate costs use each oil's cheapest per-gram pack of 500 g or 1 kg and each base's 500 ml rate. What CSI's base pages state (quoted as claims to test, not CSI test results): Pure Performance — neutral, "no added fixatives, no complex enhancements", for all families, start at 10%, maximum 30%, 20% recommended, typical working blend 75% base + 25% fragrance, rest 24–48 hours, flip reeds after the first hour; Longevity — oriental/amber, woody, resinous/balsamic, spicy and gourmand families, slower "cold diffusion", 10–30%, "if clouding occurs, reduce fragrance percentage and retest", allow 2–3 hours before the first flip; Lift — floral, citrus, green and fruity families, 10–30%; Depth — chypre, leather, smoky and rich gourmand, "slow diffusion", 10–30%; Softness — soft florals, powdery/musky and light gourmand, 10–30%; all five say rest 24–48 hours and describe themselves as crystal clear. Fibre reed page: length 20.3 cm; 6–8 reeds for a standard 50–100 ml bottle, more for stronger and faster diffusion, fewer for subtler and longer-lasting. CSI publishes no composition, density, viscosity, evaporation rate, flash point, shelf life or SDS figure for any diffuser base; no throw, evaporation or longevity data for any base, oil or reed; no reed diameter; no bottle neck size or fill line; and no IFRA limit for any oil. Any density on this page is a labelled example the reader replaces with a weighed figure; any g/day is a labelled example the reader replaces with a measured one. Material costs exclude labour, labels, boxes, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November.
