Fragrance Oils for Anniversary Gift Candles

Anniversary buyers rarely know fragrance vocabulary. They say things like "something like our wedding", "not too sweet, he'll be there too", "our 25th, it should feel special". Your job is to translate that into an oil in under a minute, and the fastest way is to sort your shelf by mood rather than by note. The map below is ours, built from each oil's stated notes. Use it as a menu you offer the customer, not as a rule.

Early years: light enough to live with

A first or second anniversary candle usually sits in a small flat and gets burned on ordinary evenings, not saved. It needs to be pleasant at close range. Japanese Cherry Blossom is our pick because its page describes a full structure — cherry and pink petals at the top, rose and jasmine in the middle, sandalwood and musk underneath — so it smells finished rather than like a single sweet note. British Rose does the same job for couples who want an unmistakable rose; its "subtle green undertones" keep it from going jammy. The wedding memory: any year, one very specific request

Many Indian weddings are remembered by their flowers: jasmine in the hair, garlands, a mandap at night. The single most personal anniversary request we hear is "can it smell like that?" The honest answer is "close, not exact". Mogra and Rajnigandha, the two oils that would answer it most directly, are out of stock at every size on 24 September 2026. The in-stock route is Raat Ki Rani, whose page names "Night-Blooming Jasmine, White Florals" over a base of "Soft Amber, Musk", or the plainer Jasmine Fragrance Oil ("sweet, floral, and slightly musky"), which is cheaper at ₹4.60 per gram for 50 g. Silver and golden: occasions with an audience

A 25th or 50th anniversary candle is often bought by children for parents, and it is lit at a gathering. It will be smelled by forty people, not two, and it has to feel like an occasion. White Royal Oud is the richest structure on this list, with rose inside an oud-and-labdanum heart, and reads formal without being a heavy smoky oud. Sandalwood is the opposite: quiet, familiar, and in our judgement the safest scent for an older couple, because it smells of home rather than of perfume. For a big party, the two work as a pair: White Royal Oud in the room where people arrive, Sandalwood on the table.

The five oils, one card each

Ranked by how often, in our judgement, each mood comes up for an anniversary maker — not by throw strength, which CSI has not measured. Every card lists every size on sale on 24 September 2026, with candle counts at 8% in a 150 g jar (12 g of oil per candle). Every one of these five pages states a candle load.

Small-batch economics: when 15 g beats 50 g

Most buying advice, including ours elsewhere in this series, says the 15 g is the expensive size. Per gram it is: British Rose costs ₹6.29 per gram at 15 g and ₹4.25 at 50 g. But an anniversary maker does not buy grams, they buy orders. If a customer wants a single candle in an oil you will probably not use again this month, the only number that matters is cash out for that order, and on that measure the 15 g is often cheaper. A 15 g bottle makes one 150 g candle at 8% (12 g), with 3 g left for a wax-melt tester.

Read the table as a rule you can apply at the moment an order comes in. One or two candles of an oil you do not hold: buy 15 g bottles. Three or more of the same oil, or an oil you expect to use again within two months: buy 50 g. White Royal Oud is the exception because its 15 g (₹130.00) is priced close to its 50 g per gram (₹8.67 against ₹8.40), so three 15 g bottles (₹390.00) still undercut one 50 g (₹420.00).

The hidden cost of buying big for a small order is idle oil. Make one British Rose candle from a 50 g bottle and 38 g — ₹161.42 worth at the 50 g price — waits for the next rose order. That is fine for British Rose, which you will use. Do the same with White Royal Oud and ₹319.20 of an occasion scent sits on the shelf until the next silver anniversary, which for a small maker might be months away. We sell the 50 g. The library approach: five oils, shallow

If anniversary candles are a regular line rather than an occasional favour, hold all five oils at 50 g: ₹1,543.80 for 250 g, an average of ₹6.18 per gram, and 20 candles' worth at 8%. A 15 g "sniff library" of all five costs ₹551.62 (₹7.35 per gram) and lets you and your customers smell every option from the bottle before committing — useful if you sell at markets or take commissions in person. What a personalised order costs to make

Four worked examples, each costed from what you would actually buy for that order. All use a 150 g candle at 8% (12 g oil, 138 g wax) in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹0.51 per gram (the 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg bags are priced the same per gram; the 500 g bag is ₹0.52), the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) at ₹94.40 each from the pack of 10, and an Eco Candle Wick, Thin (C1) at ₹5.90. Every figure excludes labour, freight, packaging and GST.

Three things fall out of these numbers. First, the jar costs about as much as the oil in the single keepsake: ₹94.40 against ₹94.40. Anniversary pricing is driven by the vessel and your time, not by the fragrance. Second, the per-candle cost barely moves between a single and a trio (₹264.72 against ₹267.53), so there is no material reason to discount multi-candle orders heavily. Third, the six-candle set shows the value of mixing sizes: six candles need 72 g of oil, and 50 g plus two 15 g bottles (₹680.00) is cheaper than the 100 g (₹810.00) by ₹130.00, or two 50 g bottles (₹840.00).

If you cost the single keepsake with oil at the 50 g price instead — the right way to cost it once you hold a library — the same candle is ₹221.30. That is the number to put in your price list; the 15 g figure is what a one-off costs you in cash when you do not.

A smaller keepsake: the 50 g heart

For a "just because" anniversary or an add-on to flowers, the Heart Cutout Velvet Candle Jar – 50g Wax Capacity (Red) is ₹45.00 for one, or ₹45.00 each from the pack of 10 (₹450.00). The white version is out of stock at every pack size on 24 September 2026. Worked example: a 50 g British Rose mini at 8% uses 4 g of oil (₹16.99) and 46 g of wax (₹23.34); with the jar and a C1 wick, the materials come to ₹91.23. A 15 g bottle of any of the five oils fills three of these, which makes the heart a sensible way to offer the "wedding memory" scent at a lower price point.

Personalising without a custom oil

CSI does not make bespoke fragrance oils for individual couples, and at one or two candles per order it would not make sense to. What you can offer is a couple's blend: two of your five oils, mixed in a ratio the couple chooses from three test pots or tester candles. It feels personal because it is — nobody else has that ratio — and it costs almost nothing extra. Worked examples at 50 g prices: a 60:40 British Rose and Sandalwood blend puts ₹56.64 of oil in a 12 g candle; a 50:50 Raat Ki Rani and Sandalwood blend, ₹76.97.

Labels, moulds and the date

Names and dates belong on a label you print locally; CSI does not list printed labels. A small Candle Care Stickers Roll (₹413.00 for 500, ₹0.83 each) covers the safety wording on the base. For a sculpted keepsake rather than a jar, CSI sells an Alphabet Moulds set (₹177.00) for initials and a Love Couple Candle Silicon Mould (₹529.82); these need a pillar-type wax, whose page does not state a fragrance ceiling, so test lower loads first. Never put a perfume house's or brand's name on the label, even if the couple's wedding scent was a designer perfume. Name it after them.

Loads, ceilings and what we cannot supply

All five oils state a candle load, which is one reason they made this list; plenty of romantic-leaning oils on the store do not. The two-ceilings rule applies: the lower of the wax maker's stated maximum and the oil page's stated maximum governs. Both are formulation limits, not regulatory limits, and the maximum is not the best-performing load. Test at 6%, 8% and 10%.

For anniversary work the ceilings rarely matter, because nobody lights a keepsake candle in a large hall expecting it to fill the room. A well-cured 8% candle in a 150 g jar is plenty for a dining table. Stocking for the year's anniversary peaks

Anniversary demand is spread across the year, but not evenly. If your customers married in the busy winter wedding months, their anniversaries cluster in the same months, and Valentine's Day on 14 February 2027 adds couples buying "for us" rather than for a date. Your library needs to be full going into that stretch. Order early for dated commissions. A candle poured today should cure for at least 48–72 hours, and a week is fairer to soy, so an order due on a fixed date needs oil in hand about ten days before.
