Five roles a romantic line needs

The most common mistake in a first romantic collection is five variations on one idea: five sweet florals, or three rose oils and two vanillas. On a shelf they blur; online, customers cannot tell them apart from the descriptions. A collection works when each candle answers a different request from the same kind of customer. Why a light scent belongs in a romantic line

Every romantic collection loses customers who say "they are all too sweet for me". The Morning role catches them. Bergamot Amber's page describes "sparkling bergamot and citrus top notes, warm amber and soft floral heart, woody musk and smooth vanilla base": there is still a floral heart and a vanilla softness, so it belongs in the family, but the first impression is citrus rather than sugar. In our judgement it will also be the candle most often bought by someone for themselves.

Why the deep scent must stop short of smoke

The Midnight role needs weight, but a heavy smoky oud or bakhoor reads as masculine or ceremonial, not romantic. Dark Vanilla Oud sits on the right side of that line: the page describes "vanilla and spicy cardamom, deepening into exotic oud and deep amber, and settling into warm musk and woody cedar". Every size listed on 24 September 2026, with candle counts at 8% in a 150 g candle (12 g oil). Each card states the candle load quoted from its page. CSI has no throw measurements, so the ordering follows the line's roles, not a strength ranking.

A line should outlive any one oil. For each role, here are the in-stock alternatives we would test if the first choice does not work for your customers, with the fact that matters most when buying each. Stock as of 24 September 2026.

Pricing the line

Worked example: each candle in a 150 g clear jar at 8%, with oil at the 50 g price, 138 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at the 1 kg price, the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) at ₹94.40 from the pack of 10, and a C1 wick. The non-oil part is ₹170.32 for every candle. All figures exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST.

Four of the five sit within about ₹12.10 of each other; only Blush stands apart. That suggests the simplest structure: one shelf price for Bloom, Crush, Morning and Midnight, and a signature price for Blush. Customers accept that a hero costs a little more; they do not accept that the fruit candle costs more than the floral for reasons they cannot see. What the line costs to stock

At the second-batch stage the oil averages ₹78.62 per candle across the line. But do not move all five to 500 g together: Pink Crush's 500 g (₹8.90 per gram) is dearer per gram than its 50 g (₹8.88), and Wild Berries' 500 g (₹6.00) is fractionally dearer per gram than its 50 g. Names, colour and vessel across the line

A collection reads as one when the five candles share a vessel and a naming system, and differ in one controlled way — usually colour or a single word. The role names used on this page (Blush, Bloom, Crush, Morning, Midnight) are suggestions; use your own. Never put a perfume house, a brand, or a CSI listing name that references a brand on your label.

Coloured glass costs ₹12.60 more per jar than clear; Blush in a pink jar comes to ₹289.48 in materials. Two published reviews of CSI's liquid dyes describe a little giving a pastel shade and good colour in both Luxury Soy Wax and coconut soy wax — customers' observations, not CSI tests. Vanilla-rich oils such as Dark Vanilla Oud may shift the colour of pale wax over time; that is one reason to put Midnight in dark glass.

Testing the five as a line

Testing oils one at a time tells you whether each is good. Testing them as a line tells you whether they belong together. With 50 g of each you have enough for two candles per oil at 8% and 10%, plus oil to spare.

Growing the line: limited editions and a sixth scent

Keep the five permanent and add around them. A limited edition for Valentine's Day on 14 February 2027 is the obvious first addition — a darker rose or a red-fruit gourmand for six weeks — and it lets you test demand for a sixth scent without committing a shelf slot. For the sixth permanent scent, look at the gap the map shows: nothing sits in "light and floral" except what Bloom and Morning cover between them. A soft, fresh floral would fill it. Buy it at 50 g, run it through the same line test, and only then give it a name and a jar.
