Best 20 Fragrance Oils for a Candle Business

Twenty is a catalogue

Makers usually reach twenty scents by accident: a new one every month, nothing ever dropped. The result is twenty open bottles, each moving slowly, and a customer faced with too many choices. Established brands manage the same number differently. A permanent core stays on sale all year and is bought in larger packs. A seasonal rotation comes in for a few months, sells, and goes. The twenty below are built that way from the start.

This list deliberately reaches beyond the top of the best-selling sort. The best 5 and the best 10 draw from the first sixteen positions. A catalogue needs depth that a starter range does not: a second citrus-herbal, a lighter white floral, a smoky wood, seasonal oils for each part of the Indian year. Twelve of the twenty come from outside the top sixteen. The sort remains CSI's only popularity signal, and it is not sales data.

The twenty, by tier

Tiers use the per-gram price at each oil's 1 kg listing, the same bands as Candle Fragrance Oil Price in India. The per-candle columns show 16 g of oil in a 200 g candle at 8%, priced at 100 g and at 1 kg, so you can see what scaling each oil changes. "P" marks the permanent twelve, "S" the seasonal eight.

At 100 g prices the tiers average ₹72.05 (Value), ₹72.60 (Core), ₹95.07 (Mid) and ₹117.18 (Premium) of oil per candle. Citronella distorts the Value average at 100 g, because its 100 g is priced far above its bulk sizes; at 1 kg it is the cheapest oil on the list. Every tier holds at least one permanent and one seasonal oil, so each season can be offered at more than one price.

Material cost per candle is the oil plus a base of ₹186.92 for 184 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, an Eco Thin C1 wick and a White Matte Glass Jar. That runs from ₹233.17 (Citronella at 1 kg) to ₹316.52 (White Royal Oud at 100 g), and it excludes labour, packaging, freight and GST. The seasonal calendar

The eight seasonal oils are placed against the Indian calendar by reasoning, not by sales data: spice and warm scents for the cooler months and gifting, bright fruit for the heat, Citronella for the monsoon when people sit outdoors in the evening, and Indian florals and woods for the festive and wedding months. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November; the wedding season runs roughly November to February.

The "buy by" column allows a few weeks to test, pour and cure before the season starts. 500 g or 100 g, oil by oil

For the permanent twelve, the opening question is whether to buy 500 g or five 100 g bottles. On CSI's listed prices the answer varies by oil, and for some the 500 g saves nothing. The table compares the two for each permanent oil.

Four oils gain nothing at 500 g. Palo Santo and Neroli cost exactly the same as five 100 g bottles, and the Gardenia and White Royal Oud 500 g packs cost ₹1.00 more. For those four, the 500 g is purely convenience and stock security. Lemongrass and Lime and Ylang Ylang Flower show the largest savings. Across the twelve, 500 g saves ₹1,178.30 over the same grams in 100 g bottles, which is worth having but is not a reason to overbuy a scent that is not selling.

For the seasonal eight, 100 g is the default: a season rarely justifies more until you have sold through one. Citronella is the exception worth taking — if you expect to need more than one 100 g bottle (about six candles) in the monsoon, the 500 g is already cheaper than a second 100 g bottle. Every oil in the twenty earns its place. These five are the ones whose price ladder or role in the catalogue most repays attention.

The opening order

Here is the opening order for the twenty, after testing. The permanent twelve are bought in 500 g (375 candles' worth at 16 g each) and the seasonal eight in 100 g (50 candles' worth). Wax, wicks and jars cover the first 100 candles only; buy more as you pour.
